benjii Posted 23 July, 2011 Share Posted 23 July, 2011 He's 17 FFS. Bet we all did some ill-advised things at that age. I reckon he'll still be at the club for a while so let's get the best out of each other.

yorkie Posted 23 July, 2011 Share Posted 23 July, 2011 The statement of intent was more of a wish...how many 17 year olds know what they want? I really think if the fans get behind him I think he will have a change of mind and see sense! We all listen to our parents but often we go totally against their wishes. Might be time to change tack, leave home and grow up out of dad's influence? I'm 100% behind the clubs decision to fine him, and totally behind him playing today. I doubt if therenwill be any booing when he gets the ball. To be honest it will be interesting to see how he performs against decent sides. A valuable lesson for him which could backfire if he really turns it on, or may just get a rude awakening...not as good as you thought?

This makes me think you are indeed a bit of a pillock and does put you on the side of someone I would probably find reason to lump over someone I would go out of my way not to. But then, you have the benefit of hiding behind your monitor and I doubt very much that you, like the countless other complete muppets on here who have all cracked that same line, would say that to my face. Infact, I know so, because when the asbo saw fit to use violence after a 10 second war of words, countless folk on here let rip at me, guys who are clearly very close to me week in week out, yet I turn back up at SMS and what...? Turkish Posted 23 July, 2011 Share Posted 23 July, 2011 If anyone thinks a polite round of applause and singing his name a little bit in a half empty stadium during a preseason game is going to make him turn down the chance of trebbling his wages and premier league and champions league football then you are bigger divs than i though. Crazy Diamond Posted 23 July, 2011 Share Posted 23 July, 2011 So anyway. It's not a great sign if you have to ask your own supporters to get behind him, is it? If he wants to go it'll be on our terms, not his, so he can talk to the press all he likes - and get fined for doing it. If we're honest, he won't stay with us forever as players just don't do that anymore. Personally I'll back him all the way until he leaves, be it sooner or later. If others want to think and do differently it's entirely up to them.
sperm_john Posted 23 July, 2011 Share Posted 23 July, 2011 he may be 17 but business is business, we need players that want to be at southampton and who are buying into what adkins and cortese is selling them about the plan and getting back to the premiership, wanting to dissappear to arsenal or whoever now is not buying into the dream ... Turkish Posted 23 July, 2011 Share Posted 23 July, 2011 Some people seem to think it's acceptable for a player to come out to the press and say he wants to leave. Some people are making excuses that he's been badly advised, been pushed into it by his dad, his agent etc. Everyone is going on about what a lovely, intellegent, level headed lad he is. Dont fool yourself, he knew what he was doing. He knew he was risking upsetting the club, management and fans. It is not on for any player to mug off the club and fans that pay their wages like that, regardless of their age. I wont boo him, i dont boo our own players, it's pathetic. But f*ck Alex Chamberlain, f*ck Mark Chamberlain. He obviously wants to leave so f*ck him. SFC is bigger than one player, lets go and get players that do want to be here. If he wants to go let him and his ego f*ck off and try and make it where so many others have failed. I know some of you think singing his name and cheering him will change his mind. He'll stand there and think "they love me here, sod it, i'll stay" No amount of clapping or singing his name if going to make him stay. He obviously thinks he is too good for us now. I for one dont want anyone at this club that thinks that way.

The press start mentioning Arsenal etc are interested the club say he is not for sale, the player then goes to the press and makes the clubs position untenable. Wenger and co know how to unsettle a player and then it alos effects the price.

Mowgli Posted 23 July, 2011 Share Posted 23 July, 2011 If Chambo thinks he can slot into the Arsenal line-up he presumably agrees with NC that he is worth £12m plus sale on percentages. If a bid came in for £12m plus add ons AND Chambo wanted to go I am sure no one would step in his way and he would wish him luck with the opportunity. But to me -and hopefully Chambo - offering £5m is as silly as offering £1.50 so the deal will not go ahead no matter how much Chambo wishes it would. So under those circumstances, given that he has enjoyed his time here, I suspect he will remain committed to the club and give his all. The ONLY person really stopping the deal going ahead is Wenger who wants to get him on the cheap. Aint gonna happen mate.

Footballers no matter what their age are fully aware how fanatical we are about our football club and know full well that if they indicate they want to leave for something better then they become the `enemy' so to speak. If he leaves I don't wish him well. Once they go I don't give a **** about them. So whilst he is in this limbo period I struggle to back him in the same way as just as almost everyone on here struggles to back Puncheon. Booing him is a different thing altogether.
