Steve De Ridder signs....

Quite right but Adkins has tended to look to sign players he's worked with in the past. This isn't one of those. No big deal. If the bloke's good then great. Just an observation.

True, but then one january and half a summer window isn't really compelling evidence.

On a tangent, the whole "Adkins signings record at Scunny isn't that great" argument doesn't hold much sway either as he did the best he could with very limited resources. His two signings so far this summer look very, very promising.

I haven't jumped to any conclusions. I've just made an observation.

Well, the majority of signings he made for S****horpe weren't those he had worked with before. A few he had on loan and then signed, but most were new to the club.

At S****horpe he also didn't have the budget he has at Saints, the pulling power or a European scouting team able to provide him with players.

I hope it does work out and thanks for the crumb of support. I don't know what he did at Scun thorpe. I think he knows Cork, Sharpe, Forte. Think I'll shut the fk up in future. Anyway I'm off to bed. All the best.

But he hardly worked with anyone before unless you count bangor? I don't see your point. I think his transfer activity with us, including rumours suggests he has a greater preference for tried and trusted players. You also have to bear in mind his statements to the effect that one of the main things he's looking for in a player is a decent attitude (mentioned time and time again, so its not just mum and apple pie). You only discover those things by working with a player.

I probably shouldn't be annoyed by this, but it is early.

Couldn't they have used a little d for de Ridder? It's not rocket surgery.

Probably because they do not use lower case for any of the letters in his name.

ie DE RIDDER rather than De (or de) Ridder.

Very impressed by Steve de Ridder's interview on Saints Player. You don't have to be intelligent to be a good footballer (evidence W Rooney) but an intelligent footballer is likely to make more of his ability and deRidder comes over as very bright and very balanced. Good English speaker, as are virtually all Belgians from Flanders (he's from Ghent), so fitting in will be that much easier for him.

Am I right in thinking number 19 still hasn't been allocated? Seems odd if NA really is only planning 1 more signing, which I assume will be a centre half at #5. Maybe he wants a multiple of 11 or it's a lucky number.

I was expecting him to take the 19 shirt too.

Maybe we have 2 more signings to come?

Chaplow wasn't. N'Guessan wasn't. matey on loan from Reading wasn't. so far Forte and Cork have.. poor observation.

I thought N'Guessan had a loan spell at S****horpe. In any event when he signed N'Guessan, Adkins was quoted as saying he'd been tracking him for two years.

He hadn't worked with Chaplow but again had been tracking him. Chaplow - "Nigel showed a bit of interest while he was S****horpe manager. When he got the move down here I was hopeful that he’d still maybe try and get me down."

By matey from Reading i guess you mean Bignall, a player that I can't recall ever having made an appearance.

So add Cork and Forte to those above and Adkins had either worked with or had been tracking for some time all of them except Bignall, an emergency one month loan signing.

Think he made an appearance against Notts County. Great game that, always nice to put Paul Ince in his place.

Great signing really. Looks very exciting and if he live up to the talent we see on Utube, I think this guy could be the real deal for us. He certainly talks well and sounds like he really wants to be here which is what we all want to hear. I hope this is a Puncheon replacement rather than OxO, but frankly I think this chap could be putting in as good if not better performances as OxO - remembering of course that he is 24 and has that much more experience. He will be in his prime when we hit the Prem.

"This is a great step, a childhood dream," says Knight, who signed for three years at the club from the Championship. "Playing in England has always been a wish of mine. And then also at Southampton, a club with a great history. A club with the caliber of the Premier League, and that they hope to play next season."

A few quotes from twitter. Hero.

'I've noticed people want me to tweet in English, from no on, that'll be the case!'

'Thx to everyone involving the Saints for the warm welcome! '

'My followers were more than doubled in 1 day...shows the fanaticism and magnitude of this club!'
