Steve De Ridder signs....

Doesn't look like it. Steve is being talked up as a player that can cover a ST position anyway...so we may have killed 2 birds with one stone on this one.

I hope so, he's certainly got the pace we needed. Maybe Chamberlain could play up alongside Lambert if he stays...

All sounds very encouraging.

Two good signings made, both at the age where one more season to adjust & they look to be the type of players who could step up to the PL not just help us get out of NpC.

And completely out of left field to play on the right

reminds me of a younger and faster belmadi.[/quote

The thought that went through my mind was he get past players a bit like Fabrice, but instead of going back and doing it again, and again, and again, De Ridder just past the player once and gave a great pass

Looks good, just the kind of player that we should be signing.

I'd completely forgotten about the existence of Jan-Paul Saeijs mind. He played 20 games for us in 08/09! I think that maybe I've just repressed the memories of that awful season.

Corrected. I'm a fool sometimes.

Youtube clips look great - I like players with quick feet. Good with both pegs and looks like he knows how to exploit space. If we can just get Jemal on the bus and drop Ox off in North London I reckon we're just about set.

PS. I bet Lambo is licking his lips watching some of those De Ridder crosses.....if he can keep up with him that is!!! ;0)

looking at you tube video I suspect he could be a luxury player in that he wont track back too much. So would be ideal at sms when oppo look to get men behind the ball. Away game could be more of a risk depending on how attack minded the opposition are. With his pace could be a great player late on in games though. I reckon he is just what we need. Lambert will be very pleased judging by the crosses ont he you tube video.

I defy you to find me a YouTube video of any attacking midfielder's "10 Greatest Tackles" - the video focuses on his attacking play because, you know, that's the interesting stuff ?

Am I right in thinking number 19 still hasn't been allocated? Seems odd if NA really is only planning 1 more signing, which I assume will be a centre half at #5. Maybe he wants a multiple of 11 or it's a lucky number.

You are right, we still have 5 (assuming Jemal doesn't sign) and 19, which based on some of the other number allocations above 11 (Bart and Forecast x1, Dickson x3, Seaborne x5, Forte x7), would be planned for a striker.

How much did Adkins know about this signing? Reading between the lines, as you do, it just seems like it isn't his?

The days of managers going off and finding a player from scratch are long gone, but just because the scouts suggested him to Adkins doesn't mean he isn't a Nigel signing.

Nothing "exactly". Based on reading between the lines. Just a hunch.

Every team the size of Saints would have a large number of people involved with a transfer. The management/Les Reed/coaches/European Scout team/Cortese etc etc would all be involved. I would be hugely surprised if Adkins didn't want De Ridder. He would have been proposed to Adkins by the scouting department after he told them to look for a winger, Adkins would then give his approval and the ultimate decision would be Cortese as he signs the cheques.

By no means does that make it "not an Adkins signing".

Quite right but Adkins has tended to look to sign players he's worked with in the past. This isn't one of those. No big deal. If the bloke's good then great. Just an observation.

Perhaps Adkins watched him on You Tube then?

True, but he was then working for Scun thorpe, who, I think it is safe to say, didn't have funds, let alone a European scouting network..
