.....and breathe!!...

Good post btw, very fair comment.

I know I was away for only a week but that posting style sure seems to be familiar but I really cannot put my finger on where i may have seen it before but it is a very positive slant on all things saints and almost like a now who was it again I wonder

I am quite surprised about many who seems to think that our chairman would be content to sit and hope and pray that Jemal may sign with risk he may sign for somebody else, etc. Hoping and praying isn't something that NC is known for. If we are waiting for a work permit for Jemal, he will have been properly signed up subject to the permit, and under those circumstances he can't go anywhere else. Nobody will snap him up and away from us if we don't want it. The contract will work the other way as well, and we can't say goodbye to Jemal because we are now looking at Gorkss. Unless the whole thing is a big rumour without foundation, Jemal will come here provided he gets his work permit.

More interesting is how we would handle both him and Gorkss if there is truth in the rumour that Saints has accepted the offer for Puncheon. I can't see us retaining 6 CBs. Martin could go on loan, but that is hardly satisfying for Seaborn, and what is the actual situation for Jaidi? He has hardly played in preseason, so is he in our plans and is he at all fit? If not, why did we give him another contract?

This is what annoys me about the work permit thing. French clubs can sign him no problem but we can't. There needs to be clearer pan European rules for this. I've also been annoyed that Iberian clubs can take their pick of the South American talent because of dual-nationality.

That's domestic policy nothing to do with football.

I heard from Jack Cork that Jemal has 4 shredded wheats for breakfast, that's got to be hard right?

Depends if it's with or without milk?

FWIW in one of Cork's saintsplayer interviews I believe he implied that he'd been mates with de Ridder for a couple of weeks, despite the fact that he had only signed a couple of days before hand. This leads me to believe it is feasible that a player(s) could be training with us for some time before the signing is announced, and thus if we do manage to secure a work permit for Jemal in the next day or two (if that is indeed the hold-up) he may be suitably prepared to come straight into the starting lineup for Saturday's game.

This may be the case if a player is a free agent, but I would be suprised if his current club would allow him to train elswhere before a deal is completed. Mainly because of insurance issues.

However, Jemal has not been in any of YB's squads this season; which leads me to think that we do have him here, training, and tied up to a contract work permit dependant.

yep my thoughts too, as I said yesterday Adkins on Saintsplayer was clearly shocked that the interviewer has been walking about , I suspect he was concerned at whom he may see - we will find out intime of course

The principle is fine, that people from outside the EU should not be able to come to Europe and take away opportunities for European workers, including football players, but that principle is already broken by allowing players who are internationals to come to play here. As a result we don't have English or European football in the Prem and this is perculating down to the Football League. Since the principle is so openly by-passed, one argument is that there is no point of trying to hold the line. Might as well just have completely foreign teams playing in the shirts of what used to be English football clubs. On the other hand, holding the line, and even pushing it back is what UEFA are trying to do. If you support Platini in this, ts not possible to complain about the obstacles to signing a North African player.

I hope we do get Jemal because it seems to be what other clubs are doing, but I'm still not happy about what its doing to club football where I like to kid myself that the players actually care about the club they play for.

You professors are way beyond me - haven't got a clue what you're talking about.

It is possible for a player to be born outside the EU and 'actually care' what club they play for over here. Hope that helps.

In that case I'm sure he'd like to hear that some of us are following along nicely.

The work permit thing is nation-based as the restrictions on who can play where are currently only limited by the state employment law and league regulations, but UEFA also have an input and are trying to ensure there is a homegrown restriction overarching all of their member nations. Of course UEFA also have to ensure they work within EU law.

Tunisian international defender Ammar Jemal, who plays for Young Boys Berne (Switzerland D1) was about to conclude an agreement with the English club Southampton, just to get into Championship (second division English). Having agreed on almost all details the player wanted to know the transfer amount agreed with Young Boys, the leaders of Southampton have refused to reveal this detail, Ammar Jemal has refused to sign the contract . Fahmi was contacted for more details

Right Brest have just signed a center back so looks like they lost out to us for Jemal!

Bizarre reason for not signing - wanting to know the transfer fee - if true! What difference does that make unless his signing on fee is a percentage of the transfer fee and he doesn't believe what we're telling him?!
