The9 Posted 21 July, 2011 Posted 21 July, 2011 To answer the shirt back question, again. I have a new question, who do you think was responsible for the decision to have Fonte turn the ball around to show the sponsor's logo even though he's facing the wrong way ?
The9 Posted 21 July, 2011 Posted 21 July, 2011 This is interesting - this is clearly an early mock-up of the Sunderland shirt for this season - note the back - same as the Saints shirt (except the sleeves). And here's the Sunderland shirt as released - ugly diagonals replace the white panel that we've kept. (And a bit hasty with the shirt printing!).
The9 Posted 21 July, 2011 Posted 21 July, 2011 I also want to know what our version of this detail looks like :
St.Thomas7 Posted 21 July, 2011 Posted 21 July, 2011 I also want to know what our version of this detail looks like : Its exactly this same except with out the black line in the red and white.
St Marco Posted 21 July, 2011 Posted 21 July, 2011 Just noticed that Npower are doing deal where if you have electricity and gas with them you get a football league shirt for free http://www.npower.com/Campaigns/football45/index.htm
The9 Posted 21 July, 2011 Posted 21 July, 2011 Just noticed that Npower are doing deal where if you have electricity and gas with them you get a football league shirt for free http://www.npower.com/Campaigns/football45/index.htm Yeah, been doing it since the summer of 2010 when they started the sponsorship and it's been all over the OS for at least 6 months in banner ads. I did a price comparison last summer, and ironically if I switched to one of their other tariffs I saved £220. Suddenly the "free kit" looked like a pretty mean offer, as I could have bought about 5 new Saints shirts with that money if I'd wanted.
The9 Posted 21 July, 2011 Posted 21 July, 2011 Why does it need to be current? What's the obsession with it? I bet a lot of people buy this shirt cheap at the end of the season, yet it won't be used after that. Nothing wrong with wearing the sash, retro shirts or any other saints shirt you like. Production costs etc don't change much just because it's a 1 year kit so we can't expect it to be cheaper. Nobody bought last season's home kit cheap at the end of last season, as it was never reduced. The away kit was half price up to last week, I assume they've shunted them out of the way now to make room for the home stock. I'll find out tonight IF I'm still going to the West Quay store.
The9 Posted 21 July, 2011 Posted 21 July, 2011 It looks like it might have one of those tight necks that strangle you even if the shirt is big. Has anyone got one, can confirm? The last tight nick shirt was the post-Prem relegation centre-badge Friends Provident one, and that was a design flaw which neglected to elasticate the back of the collar - Umbro won't make that error and there's the "vent" panel in the front for added flexibility too.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 21 July, 2011 Posted 21 July, 2011 Just had a look after work and didn't notice til up close that the stripes are made up of sort of dashes rather than being solid colour.

Yeah as far as I remember there are no away kits on display now and nearly the whole left hand wall is new home kit.

And i noticed on http://www.topcashback.co.uk/npower/ that if you move over to the footie deal they give you £75 cashback too!
Saint Billy Posted 21 July, 2011 Posted 21 July, 2011 FFS... Options: 1. Like, can afford - BUY 2. Like, can't afford - DONT BUY, thats life sadly 3. Dont like, Can afford - BUY for someone else 4. Dont like, cant afford - NO FECKIN' PROBLEM IS THERE Frank's C is having one of those Falling Down downs me thinks.
Dog Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 When I first looked at the kit on the official site with Ricky, Adam & Jose, my first reaction was horrible kit. Then I saw this...................................... Love it!!!!

The9 Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 Yeah as far as I remember there are no away kits on display now and nearly the whole left hand wall is new home kit. No black kits in West Quay, no home socks either. Or any XXL sizes, or mini-kits. Actually I took a photo of what they DON'T have. For those who weren't sure, the socks have yellow logos on as well, not the white ones of Sunderland / Rangers away last season. And they DO have grey feet...
Colinjb Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 Wow! Kudos to the guys at the megastore. I ordered my home shirt via phone on wednesday just after the unveiling. Was warned it would be mid way through next week until arrival due to demand. It was on my doorstep this morning. Great work!!!!

Was warned it would be mid way through next week until arrival due to demand. It was on my doorstep this morning. Great work!!!! Is this the same "demand" that saw one person in West Quay with one on between 5:30pm and 6:30pm last night, and only 2 people buying the new shirt whilst I was in the West Quay store for 15 minutes around 6pm (and that was me and my wife)? It's a nice shirt, but it's not going to pull up any trees.

Saint-Armstrong Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 Still waiting for mine. Pre-Ordered on Monday/Tuesday (don't ask me which) and was "Fully Shipped" Thursday Morning, should be here today at some point, am I wrong?

Pre-Ordered on Monday/Tuesday (don't ask me which) and was "Fully Shipped" Thursday Morning, should be here today at some point, am I wrong? Should be, maybe even ask around the neighbours to see if they've got it if it doesn't turn up today.
SaintNeil90 Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 I would prefer white short, think it would really set it off. Never been a fan of black shorts.
saint_bert Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 Do they have child kits in stock yet. I want to get the nipper one for his birthday Monday. He will be 4.
Saint-Armstrong Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 Thanks The9, I've been at home since it said fully shipped as I am on leave for a few weeks. Better turn up in time!!

Colinjb Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 I'll just upload the pic from my phone which says what they don't have... Just so long they are in for little one's birthday on the 8th September, not a problem for me. Sympathies to who this affects. It would be extremely frustrating.
Essruu Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 You've got to be one fat b'stard to need a 5XL shirt. Do the 3XL, 4XL and 5 XL shirts cost more to offset the additional material costs? If not, and it is the case that we're having a high demand for these obese sizes, surely normal people are subsidising the fat gits and it is this that has pushed the prices up this year.

If not, and it is the case that we're having a high demand for these obese sizes, surely normal people are subsidising the fat gits and it is this that has pushed the prices up this year. You're forgetting that the additional material is a mere fraction of the £35 mark up. I've just come back from picking up Memorial Cup tickets (Northam and Kingsland only are open, so scrap any idea that I'll be able to get photos of the away shirt onto Saintsweb), and the area outside the Megastore absolutely reeks of sewage at the moment. I didn't see any Tunisians either, not that the medical would be at the stadium...
The9 Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 As I've also just popped into the Megastore, have a size chart for those not sure about the fit : FWIW I bought an XL (long sleeved) - yesterday - because the sleeves on the Large long sleeved weren't long enough. The sizes are almost exactly the same as last season's home kit (I bought a L short sleeved and an XL long sleeved last year for the exact same reasons) - but the away kit last year was slightly smaller, was definitely an XL in that.
ant Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 Cheers for nabbing a photo of the size chart. I had a M home shirt last year but according to that chest circumference guide might actually be better off with S. West Quay's close to me so might as well pop in there and try a couple of sizes on rather than traipse down to SMS. Assuming that they're not flying off of the shelves today

Saint Garrett Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 They were expecting to shift a few more than they have then !!!
The9 Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 I also took a pic of the long-sleeved shirts which shows the weird white panel which interrupts the cuff and the lower part of the sleeve - this is black on Sunderland's kit and looks really strange. Ours is a bit more discreet, but is still a strange design feature, as it doesn't have anything printed on it or appear to serve any purpose.
The9 Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 They were expecting to shift a few more than they have then !!! I expect they are primed for tomorrow (when the two open stands are the opposite side of the stadium from the Megastore), Wednesday's game against West Brom, and the following Saturday against Leeds, as well as the rest of the season after that. Can't expect to shift them all overnight, but I would laugh if they'd ordered the same quantities as last season, just because it would be preposterous.
Saint-Armstrong Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 Cheers The9, I went out to the shop for 5 minutes to grab some stuff for lunch. Inevitably, I returned to a "Attempted Delivery Notice" and spent 5 minutes tracking down the Postie, chasing him down various roads, but here it is...

The Kraken Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 That logo looks worse and worse the more I see it.
JustMike Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 That logo looks worse and worse the more I see it. shirt is ok, like the collar but hate the logo, why do they always seem like an after-thought!
saint lard Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 That logo looks worse and worse the more I see it. Agree, seeing it up closer makes it look attrocious.
ant Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 Definitely preferred the old felt-ish sponsor logos. Apart from the 'orrible feel of the slapped-on ones, the 'white' always seems to look more cream and stands out very starkly as a result. Still, I'm happy with the design as a whole and will hopefully pick a shirt up this weekend.
astrasri Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 When I first looked at the kit on the official site with Ricky, Adam & Jose, my first reaction was horrible kit. Then I saw this...................................... Love it!!!! My reaction - even voted on day 1 (I'm one of the 46 against it) but after seeing the photo of Barney holding one - I quite like it Official photographer - OUT!!
deadpanmatt Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 Mine arrived, nice design, but the bestthings about it are the fit and the material. It actually feels 'tailored' compared to many kits that are a weird one size doesn't quite fit all, and it's a nice thick material.
latter day saint Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 had a good look at it today as a mate was wearing his.it does look good in the flesh.i really like the collar & the detail in the stripes but not keen on the stuck on sponsors logo. i'm 50/50 about buying it for myself but will be getting the kit for my son.
The9 Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 shirt is ok, like the collar but hate the logo, why do they always seem like an after-thought! Because every time we get a new sponsor they have to fit it onto a shirt that's already been designed with stripes all the way down it, I should think.
Matthew Le God Posted 22 July, 2011 Posted 22 July, 2011 Not keen on the stuck on sponsors logo. Has a team ever had a sponsor that wasn't stuck on and actually part of the shirt fabric?
woodsaint Posted 23 July, 2011 Posted 23 July, 2011 Yes us, the championship final day escape season shirt had a flybe sponsor that was the same material as the shirt
Saint-scooby Posted 23 July, 2011 Posted 23 July, 2011 I saw one close up today, looks a lot better than the OS pics.
doggface Posted 23 July, 2011 Posted 23 July, 2011 (edited) Double post Edited 23 July, 2011 by doggface
doggface Posted 23 July, 2011 Posted 23 July, 2011 Yes us, the championship final day escape season shirt had a flybe sponsor that was the same material as the shirt No it didn't. There was a White panel built into the shirt but the flybe.com was a similar heat applied logo (but not as thick or well applied, so liable to fall off). The other shirt that had a White panel built in was the last friends provident home shirt. Both shirts were White with the stripes printed onto them. Therefore to break the stripes is easy. Umbro uses different types of materials and cuts to create their premium shirts. Instead of printing the stripes they weave different colour threads one by one to create truer colours and textures. The stripes cannot be broken. IMO they have done a great job with the aap3 & could not have improved it & it will not fall off! Both were ****e shirts in comparison with the superior build quality of our umbro shirts.
adrian lord Posted 23 July, 2011 Posted 23 July, 2011 I like it a lot, it has a very cool continental look to it, must be the Cortese influence.
