How to buy a football club

why are you going on about pompey..

it was clear that the programme called "how to buy a football club" was all about bryan robson and thailand...

maybe they should have called it.."how to buy a football club from captain marvel"

No, I think you're the one missing the point here.

The programme was about **** all. It was about a couple of losers talking about how to buy a club and doing nothing, absolutely nothing. No prosecutions, no charges to be made just a lot of talk.

The programe was complete and utter sh1t.

The only thing they had was the blueprint that Robson mentioned, on how to do it... and Portsmouth was the perfect example of what Robson was talking about. Had the makers of the programme done any research or had any point to the whole propgramme then surely the punchline was Pompey?

Hence why I mentioned Pompey and hence my amazement at the fact that they were glossed over and us mentioned as being slightly suspect.

If you say the programe's called "How to buy a football club", why were Saints even mentioned??

We were bought by a billionaire who sadly passed away. It's in the hands of the estate/the Leibherr family.

It's not rocket science is it??? Why could Channel 4 not see that?

I'm not being prissy or sensitive I'm just pointing out that if the programnme was about dogy businessmen trying to buy football clubs, why mention a club that was bought legitimately by one man and gloss over a club that is the epitome of what the programme was about is sloppy...

I'm certainly not one to get on my high horse about anything but to have us alluded to and the skate b4stards played out as a helpless victim of foreign ownership is nothing short of c()ntish. Either tell the proper story, or not at all. Don't hint at things, especially not dodgy foreign ownership - something we're most definitely not subject to.

I have let Channel 4 have my thoughts on the tarnishing of Markus Liebherr who had registered the company correctly in his own name but who unfortunately died with those sleazy characters in the programme - including Bryan Robson who was a favourite player of mine but a crap manager

I think we should all complain until an apology is made. They've just tried to taint the name of a decent guy who died merely to sell a poorly put together programme.

I would never normally complain about anything I see on TV, but this annoyed me! :D

Perhaps the mods could do a sticky with the Channel 4 comments link kindly provided earlier in this thread. We did this once to the Chairman of the Northern Ireland FA when Chris Baird was 'dropped' re missing a NI game through an injury and then not allowed to play for us. A lot of us received personal replies.

In a period in which the media is under the spotlight for poor practise, governance and grey research methods, I was almost bemused by the patently inaccurate reporting by dispatches in regard to Southampton Football Club. However I was not bemused by the shocking and frankly disgusting comments made against the clubs late owner Markus Liebherr. I would go as far as saying the comments made were defamatory and libellous.

The reporter implied that the ownership of Southampton FC was suspect, that a dead man had been used as a front, and that the company is in the hands of an offshore registration. I found the suggestions against Herr Liebherr abhorrent and utterly unpleasant.

If your researchers had actually carried out the most basic of internet searches, they would have discovered that the Liebherr family are indeed a wholly legitimate business empire. This is not an offshore tax dodge; the Liebherr group employs around 30,000 staff worldwide in one of the world’s leading construction firms. As Markus Liebherr sadly passed away last year, the club, along with his business empire, will be going through probate to the executors of his estate, which is his family.

This is not some international crime syndicate, this is an entirely transparent operation led by entirely transparent executive team.

Instead of your reporter reading the business name (DMWSL 613 Ltd) with a dramatic pause and raised eyebrows implying dodgy practise, he could instead have noted that the business name is simply a catalogue for businesses, under the database of Dickson Minto WS lawyers (DMWSL...). Can you see the connection here?! Mind you, that might be a bit in-depth; a quick scan on companies house, or even Southampton FCs official website would have also provided all the information required (http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/companydetails/0,,10280,00.html).

For your information, DMWSL 613 Ltd is a British company.

By the way, the club are hosting a memorial tournament for Herr Liebherr on Saturday, with two top European clubs participating. The club are also launching the Markus Liebherr hospitality suite in the stadium, as a further mark of respect. Supporters have independently raised many thousands of pounds for the production of a 20x15 metre flag honouring the man... You have got this wrong on so many levels, the credibility of dispatches is in the gutter in my eyes and I will have little faith in your productions from now on.

The people of Southampton have a lot of respect for Markus Liebherr and what he did for our cities football club, and I will suggest the club investigate this matter.

Very Disappointing, shame on you Channel 4.

Yours Sincerely

Two things:

"We've got Harry Redknapp"

and this:

http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/8327614.Just_two_hours_for_Markus_to_fall_in_love_with_Saints/

Is that really a man who's just in for the money?

If you just look at how he acted at Wembly during the JPT final, you can see he was enjoying it. I just loved the way he was taking photos of everything like someone who had been invited as a guest to go to something that was overwelming, not as some dodgy crook after a quick buck.

I think that the little dig was just to underline a point that is all, and was very poorly done in my eyes. It just shows that they probably didn't have that much dirt to sling around. After all, the blue few would make a more interesting story, but wopuld take more than 30 secs to explain.
