Thedelldays Posted 17 July, 2011 Share Posted 17 July, 2011 I started watching saints from when I was 4 and grew up (like everyone my age) idolising MLT....he was a god as far as I was concerened and use to try and recreate his goals doen the park... those with kids etc...who is the general hero these days...I was easy in my time as I grew up watching probably the greatest SFC player of all time (one of at the very least) can see it being a close call between lallana and lambert...but who....? View From The Top Posted 17 July, 2011 Share Posted 17 July, 2011 Lallana. My nipper models himself on him when playing but yesterday, after scoring the winner in a friendly, celebrated Mick Channon style!
rshephard3 Posted 17 July, 2011 Share Posted 17 July, 2011 Probably pulis until he left. Now we have no heroes. On a serious note it has to be lallana I'd imagine.
Rory Posted 17 July, 2011 Share Posted 17 July, 2011 In the next few years, I think we are going to see a lot more kids' favourites. Since relegation from the Premier League, or maybe following Strachan's departure, we haven't had a fixed side and no one has really stood out. Players would come and go and rarely spend more than a couple of seasons with us before being sold or finding another club. Back when I was a kid, we had the likes of Dodd, Le Tiss, Benali, Maddison, Monkou, Oakley, Flowers etc turning out for us week after week, season after season. These are the players people in my age group grew up with and loved and cheered on every weekend. Thankfully, with players like Lallana and Lambert committing their long-term futures to the club, I can see more following suit and youngsters these days can look forward cheering on players who want to be here and progress, not the woefully inept short-term fixes we've endured since relegation. doddisalegend Posted 17 July, 2011 Share Posted 17 July, 2011 (edited) Well my five year old thinks Lambert is the best (I have a sneaky suspicion it's the only player she can remember), My nine year old plays full back for his team and likes to model himself on Harding, though he thinks Lallana is pretty amazing. Windmill Arm 2 Posted 17 July, 2011 Share Posted 17 July, 2011 Traditionally kids have always idolised goal scorers, IMO Rickie Lambert is probably the kids favourite .

I'd also suggest that if they play football that they model themselves on the player who shares that position.
barney Posted 17 July, 2011 Share Posted 17 July, 2011 My 7yr olds favourite is Barnard. When i asked why? he replied (because he's small and he's blooming hard.)
bender Posted 17 July, 2011 Share Posted 17 July, 2011 My 2 year old crapped on my old 2010 calendar yesterday that was sitting next the recycling. Straight onto Fonte's face it was. I would say thats poor judgement from the boy.

Dimond Geezer Posted 18 July, 2011 Share Posted 18 July, 2011 I'd also suggest that if they play football that they model themselves on the player who shares that position. There's an element of truth in this, I was a keeper & my heroes were Shilts, Flowers & Budgie. As for my kids, for the 10 year old it's now Barney (Previously Papa Waigo), where as my 14 year old thinks Jaidi is God.
