O come off it...Morgan is far better than Jaidi...he's a liability.

He has been absolutely outstanding in the two season with us and played a huge part in our promotion and you call him a liability? How many headers did he lose all season? 5, 6 perhaps?

How much do you know about Morgan? For my sins I watch Forest a lot (brother in law is a fanatic Forest fan) and Wes is prone to the odd clumsy oaf like moment himself.

He does a job, but I think he'll struggle with the pace this season, and won't be fit enough to play every game. Still believe wqe need to bring in someone of Fonte's standard to play alongside him.

if one comes in one would have to go out. Four centre backs is enough.

I agree, but I'm pretty sure we were saying exactly the same thing at this point last year; that he might get caught out for pace, and that he wouldn't be able to play twice in one week. Didn't quite happen that way. It's not as if he's massively over the hill, he's 35, and never really relied on pace in any case. With a decent pre-season behind him he may well yet surprise quite a few people. Certainly I think we'd struggle to find anyone as dominant as the big man.

Although I agree he was good last season, I watched him on quite a few occasions away from home last year and he was torn to pieces. At the moment I think we're going to realy struggle when we play against someone with a few quick players up front. None of Dickson, Harding, Butterfield and Richardson are particularly fast either.

I wuould be quite happy for us to bring in someone else who is better than Jaidi and loan Martin or loan/sell Seaborne out.

And FYI I do actually watch Forest quite a bit as I live in Sheffield and have a close family friend that also lives here who is a forest fan so go to about 5/6 forest games a season.

Morgan doesnt look like hes happy on the ball, but rarely does he lose it or miss headers. Plus he is still young.

Adam Le Fondre mentioned on this forum again then. Speaking to a journo who covers a lot of Yorkshire clubs, he thinks he's already had a word with Keith 'the farmer' Hill about joining him at Barnsley. Rotherham want a substantial fee though, getting on for £2 million. Not sure how that'll work out - Barnsley can't afford that much and Rotherham are overpricing him a tad.

Can't believe people are ready to resign Jaidi to the dustbin for being over the hill and yet still argue Connolly has a lot to offer.

Jaidi is exactly what we need in this division, he is the perfect foil for Fonte, a mountain and a big horrible lump. Think back to Darren Moore in his Derby days. The problem is you can't have everything, yes he will occasionally be beaten for pace but he won't miss much in the air, and thats important.

What we need is a replacement for Jaidi like for like, we don't need another footballing CB and Seaborne/Martin are not aggressive enough.

Please explain as I see no link.

Mellor - proven he's not great so far in championship, didn't excel in league 1, failed top flight, not young, overweight, slow.

Le fondre - hasn't had a chance in higher leagues yet, younger, technically better, faster, more in demand, more expensive.

Don't write off players because of league, actually study the player.

sorry but we should be and probably are (sharp) aiming a tad higher than league 2 strikers..

Don't just write players off because of the league they ply their trade, bear in mind Charlie Austin who was playing non-league football not too long ago.

Not that I think Le Fondre is what we need. But then IMO we don't need Sharpe either.

Guly and Barnard will pose the biggest threat to teams this year but I think we need some pace around the front line aswell. We shall see.

Agree that Jaidi,on form and fit, is perfect for the year ahead although stil think he will need resting .

As for Martin,I think he could be the aggressive CB we need along Fonte, but he will only start to assert himself once more experienced.

He just doesn't seem dominant enough for me, I would be much happier playing against Martin than Jaidi, and I am more of a pacey striker then a bustling target man. Martin just doesn't give me the impression that he would put me through a brick wall to get the ball where as Jaidi does.

tbf that could apply to just about every CB around - compared to Jaidi!

Beattie been spotted all around town today! could we about to see the return of the man whose iconic cupping of his ear to skates after scoring deserves a contract in itself or is he just down here visiting the wifes family? Not saying that he is signing or that I want him too but the words "smoke" and "fire" spring to mind but I suppose we have plenty of fireman on here to ensure that it doesn't get out of hand.

But it gives you something to think about. Think Richard Dunne, Terry, Vidic, etc etc Think Killer.

I think we missed out on the young CB from Bournemouth aswell, who went to the skates, can't remember his name but he seemed to have a dominant streak in him aswell.

why is he a ****..?

could be a decent shout for us..

Over-rated, egotistical, arrogant big head.

We could do better. And we already have one lazy target man we don't need another, added to the fact that he is the wrong side of 30, and only really had around 2 decent seasons in his career, if reports were to be believed was a destabilizing dressing room influence and would want a lot of cash.

IMO we need pace, not has beens.

Might be a tw*t but still love him for his taunting at them lot down the road and even you must think that it was brilliant that a tw*t wound up 3000 tw*ts

Would Beattie want to come back here? He couldn't wait to leave back in 2004 and 2005.

to be fair...we were on the road to mother-fuking hell...god knows what some of the players thought knowing the muppets we had running the club

True. If he could replicate his form at Sheffield United I'd be happy to have him back, but that would be unlikely due to age and the pecking order.

Also, Anthony Gardner will be signing for Reading.

Jaidi is one of the best defenders I've ever seen in the air. Footwork not so good but he got alot fitter after being dropped early in the season and was immense.

His lack of pace is his main weakness but he will be vital for certain games next season.

He was brum's best player in their championship winning season but got let go to us on a free due to his lack of pace going into the prem which is a different pace altogether.

Why all this Beattie madness--just because he taunted the Cheats? He's past it and on the way down, we're on the way up and he's the last type we need...no thank you!

Think we're possibly looking in the wrong place again.

We need a good striking cover but someone who will improve and be able to step up to the PL.

Should be googling Serie B & Lower Serie A teams to see who NC's mates have found for us this year

From what we saw from Cork at the tender age of 19...

From what I and others have seen of Cork at Burnley over the last few seasons, including the Premiership...

From how the Burnley fans are absolutely gutted that we have nabbed him from there grasp...

It's fair to say, he's a quality signing

It has f*** all to do with the fact he has signed from Chelsea, and nobody has said so. He is a very good young English Midfielder, who was going to find it rather hard to break past the likes of Lampard, Essien, Mikel, Ramieres etc, hence why he wanted to move on.

Oh dear.....more premature massiah worshipping......wait and see........wait and see........

Why do people keep harping on about Jaidi and pace? If he was in the Conference, he'd struggle against pace. If he was in L2, he'd struggle with pace. In L1, he struggled against pace. In the NPC, he'll probably struggle against pace. However, just because we've gone up a league doesn't mean every player is instantly faster. They're better footballers, but pace varies. Jaidi will need to be rested a times so therefore we'll need cover/competition, but he'll do us just fine for the NPC when he does play.

How is it messiah* worshipping!? He is a good signing, fact. Yes, there are better players than him in England at the moment, but guess what helmet, we aint Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal. We have just been promoted to the 2nd tier of English Football and have signed a player clearly many people in the world of football rate, myself and many many Saints Fans included. That doesn't mean I am going to have a party in my pants, just means that I am happy to see that our signings have started to look on the upside (signing young english talent) rather than signing players that I have never heard of and come from a country I had never heard of.

It's so easy for you to give it the "Wait & See" and act all smarmy, why dont you "Wait & See" and maybe hold back from looking silly when you realise he is in fact miles past Dean Hammond in footballing ability. Smarmy f*ck.

Can't disagree with that. If you know anything about football, you can see that Jack is an exceptionally gifted technical footballer. Sure, he's young and still learning but he's got the touch of a PL player, that's for sure.

Did he ever actually join us? I remember an article about it two or three months ago in some foreign paper but cant remember anything from the club. He isn't listed on club staff list on the OS either.

According to the article he was appointed, but I would have expected this to have been confirmed on the OS. His function was to set up a scouting network abroad and it was obvious that he had talks with us. Whether he has got into trouble for talking out of turn I don't know, but if we made the appointment there was obviously a need. Either Jakob Friis-Hansen is doing that job or someone else is?

I think its more the fact that we can get away with one or two 1 on 1s in L1, but in the Championship, the strikers will be far more clinical.

Yakubu is on his way permanently and they've had a bid rejected for Jack Colback of Sunderland.

There are a few Evertonians I know who will be livid at that.

Someone Jackson has less than a year left on his Norwich contract and Lambert has brought in 7 new faces already. I would love it it we snapped him up, break the bank Nicola, he is just what we need to push for promotion.

I'd have to agree that if I thought NAs best shot was an ordinary L2 striker, I'd be more surprised than I would disappointed.

Quite a few of the leading scorers around today started in non-League football rather than someones Prem. Academy.

The perennial Kevin Phillips (now 37) and still going strong was rejected by Saints as a junior and found his way to Premiership football

and an England shirt via a non-League club. IF Lambert plays all season and ends up with 10 goals then we'll know he's found his level, but what will you say if he ends up in the top 5 strikers in CCC this season ?

Everyone has to start somewhere and only time will tell if (someone) is good enough to score goals in all 4 divisions.

Not the BEST example, but Brett Ormerod did ..and he started with non League with Accrington 20 years ago...

.......and NO ...I don't think we should sign him, either. (Example only)...

personally, I think NA will sign a recognised striker with a good record.

That we'd got an awful lot of penalties???? At the expense of repeating myself ad infinitum Lambert is not a hot shot striker,or at least he wasn't last season, he scored 21 goals of which 8 were penalties. He may do sterling work in the build up phase and slot away spot kicks very prettily but compared to Murray and CMS he wasn't a great goalscorer last season. Barnard was our best open play goalscorer.

You haven't been to a game in 10 years!! Plus you have proved many times that you're clueless! :)
