Adkins: 1 or 2 new players by Saturday?

In his post-match interview after the FC St Gallen game, Adkins said "there may be 1 or 2 new players in the building by Saturday, I know there's been a lot of speculation"

He then went on to chastise himself for using the phrase "in the building"

Noticed that. Might just be able to persuade me to go on Saturday :) I think it'll be a good day out and again a chance to "hopefully" have another couple of quality signings to watch and get gelled with the side.

Might there be a deal which involves Mills and Preston I wonder? He played another 90mins today in their friendly.

Perhaps we will have a graphic of Tom Finney set out in one of our stands and they will have Mills. Finney's 'mural' is fairly static but still quicker off the blocks than the lump of lard that passes as Mellor.

I will laugh if we sign mellor...for no other reason than saintsweb has already spoken and cast him in the "shyt" bin...

With around 20 LG1 one goals last year, some of them crackers. Lol. Don't forget Gary "Tortoise not-good-enough-for-Ipswich" Roberts as well ;)

Because he is Shyte. Everyone still goes on about his "wonder goal" against arsenal all them years ago. FFS, one toe-punt doesn't make you a good player

Sounds promising, Brighton have already brought in 5 or 6 (although have lost 2) so would be good to add some real quality like we have with Cork!

steady. Cork has yet to prove himself. Just because he was signed at Chelsea means nothing. He is a youngster, keen no doubt but don't go all doe-eyed on him because of his Chelsea roots. He was not good enough to play for Chelsea, that speaks volumes. Too many times I have witnessed folks heaping praise on a new player as though he were the Messiah, only to have to eat humble pie at a later date. He is one of a unit, one of a team. Let us see what he can do in the team before we start showering him with accolades and praises.

I also noted that Sven-Göran Eriksson has signed around SEVEN already for his Leicester side.

The names look good - on paper - but it remains to be seen if he has the "savvy" to make the team " gell."

Most of the Saints squad have had almost two seasons together, which hopefully is an advantage.

From what we saw from Cork at the tender age of 19...

From what I and others have seen of Cork at Burnley over the last few seasons, including the Premiership...

From how the Burnley fans are absolutely gutted that we have nabbed him from there grasp...

It's fair to say, he's a quality signing.

It has f*** all to do with the fact he has signed from Chelsea, and nobody has said so. He is a very good young English Midfielder, who was going to find it rather hard to break past the likes of Lampard, Essien, Mikel, Ramieres etc, hence why he wanted to move on.

It's quality much more than numbers that matter this time, but if the next two signings are as good as the last one then we should be set up for a good season.

I'm hoping for a capable CB to really challenge for Jaidi's place alongside Fonte (presuming Cork doesn't play there) and the pacy forward every team in world football is forever seeking. I can hardly wait - but will have to.

Agreed - For me I saw enough when he was on loan before to think that he has class, athleticism and commitment...watched the Preston away 3-2 on youtube and was reminded of how good I thoght he was then.

"quite a lot of speculation " is an understatement, Nigel...

the wires have been burning and this site must have ben near crashing during the last few weeks with the HCDAJFU thread and

summer signings... so for goodness sake get a couple of new signings and shut everybody up and get on with the football....

It doesn't surprise me that nothing appears on the OS , or other media sources. Cortese's policy and discreet secrecy would

confuse even the defunked NOTW investigators.

WHO will we sign..? No idea, but it wouldn't surprise me to see one of Cortese's contacts bring forth another Papa Waigo or Guly !

Long shot would be Mc Gugan or Cohen...

McGugan has been linked with Newcastle. He looked a quality player last season. No chance. I'd of thought none of Forest players remaining would make a sideways move apart from maybe Moussi. Camp to Swansea.

Forest are linked with Routledge. He'd be a decent replacement for Alex should the worst happen.

A player from Forest....If rumours are to believed.

For me Paul Anderson..A winger who can play on either side.

Long shot would be Mc Gugan or Cohen...

WIFM

Guy Moussi is out of contract - debateable as to whether we need another midfielder although he is more the "enforcer" type.

The comment about signings was completely unsolicited so I am choosing to interpret that as indicating we have a couple of deals virtually completed.

I would think so.....at least 1 deal almost done..nige has never slipped up with quote thus far

Totally agree, what surprises me more though is how much we seem to have a bit more clarity. Last year we knew nothing until the deal was done. Maybe other clubs have ;have refused to do business with all the secrecy. Who knows?
