supersonic Posted 16 July, 2011 Share Posted 16 July, 2011 Haven't seen anything on this to date, but ust a quick report from the academy's first re-season outing at Winchester. 1st Half Didn't recognise some of the players, but noticable ones were Jack Stephens (who we signed from Plymouth last season) at centre-back, who looked very, very good and I can see why he played in their first team last season. James Ward-Prowse in midfield, who has been very highly rated, and you can see why, likes to tackle and can pass a ball accurately, good engine on him too. Joe Curtis who played behind the lone striker, left footed, agile, technically gifted and quite quick too Jake Sinclair, who's older brother Scott was there watching, played up front on his own, looks lightening quick and his off the ball running is superb at his age. again, you can see why he's rated so highly. Winchester scored by their centre-back from a corner to go 1-0 up 2nd Half Whole new 11 players and I recognised even less. Luke Shaw at left-back, Harrison Reed in midfield and Omar Rowe on the wing looked decent but we looked like we lacked another striker as Bevis Mugabi (descibed as a midfielder on the OS) was playing up front. well organised team who did well seeing as it was their first game playing with some of them, and fitness levels were obvious as well as the physical differences against some of the fully grown men for winchester, but they played well dispite the 1-0 defeat. Would expect 2 or 3 to be knocking on the 1st team door some time this season
benjii Posted 16 July, 2011 Share Posted 16 July, 2011 What level are Winchester? Are they any good? Nice to hear encouraging things about the well known players.
SparkySaint Posted 16 July, 2011 Share Posted 16 July, 2011 The player who stood out for me was Corby Moore. It was a performance where they lacked that final killer pass
RedAndWhite91 Posted 16 July, 2011 Share Posted 16 July, 2011 Jack Stephens was the star player, looked very solid and assured. No-one played badly but no-one really stood out, as the OP said there is plenty of talent but I felt the final ball was fairly poor today and let us down. Obviously it's only the first game of pre-season so nothing to worry about. Winchester could have had two or three, they hit the post and threatened a fair bit, but there was a lot of end to end stuff and the game was pretty open. Mowgli Posted 17 July, 2011 Share Posted 17 July, 2011 Surprised that Jack Stephens was not with the first team in Switzerland. I guess they are just trying to keep his feet on the ground.

supersonic Posted 18 July, 2011 Author Share Posted 18 July, 2011 To be fair to Winchester, their players looked quite young too, especially their centre-back who was a big ugly bloke, no-nonsense and scored I believe. As has been said earlier, Corby Moore looked good, although him and Harrison Reed in centre-midfield have a combined height of about 4"11. The latter I can see why the OS compared him to Paul Scholes (not just because he is ginger), he is energetic, good passer and leaves his foot in. Seems very promising and has all the raw attributes to be a good footballer
