Saints vs Saints (St Gallen) tonight

Recommended Posts

Be interesting to see the line-up tonight. Wonder whether the starting XI will be more akin to NA's first choice line up or whether it'll be a complete mix up & a different team each half, as against Biel-Bienne? Also wonder Jack Cork is up to speed yet or whether he's still playing catch up after the extra time off after the U21 tournament.

I think he said post match against Biel he'd play two different teams each half.

I hope not!

This is what ****s me off, the amount of times we start the first game of the season and a manager will admit I'm not sure what my best team is yet.

Get the players upto match fitness quickly and start to gel as a team please.

Thank you.

Yep he says on one of the saints player interviews that he intends to have 2 different XI's again and looking to experiment with different players and systems.

Surely that's what pre-season is all about?

What an incredibly stupid comment. How is he supposed to know what his best XI is if he can't even test out other players in the squad in pre-season friendlies?

I wonder how our fans will get on against this lot:

I rekon our fans will outsing this lot.

How's he supposed to get the players up to match fitness with half of them sat on their arses?

Which is exactly what he should be doing at this stage of pre-season.

Then get closer to his actual preferred starting 11 as we get closer to the start of the season.

Given that we have only brought in one new player, so far, I recken Nige has a good idea as to what his preferred starting 11 would be (given certain player's fitness levels, the opposition, tactics being empolyed that game, etc - which is why it is all about having a good and fit SQUAD not FIRST 11).

P.S. What time is kick-off today?

They're already gelled as a team though, most of us know what our best 11 is and I'm pretty sure he does. They've been together for 2 years!

Pre-season is all about getting the entire squad up to fitness, not just the starting 11. So i hope he plays 2 different teams otherwise it's a bit of a waste of time.

I think it is likely that the West Brom and Yeovil games are where you will see the first XI play together for a significant part of the game.

The St Gallen, FC Biel, Werder Bremen and Athletic Bilbao games will see a mix up of the first team squad in order to get the whole squad fit and back playing football.

Despite the abuse Pilchards Adkins seems to agree with you with his team selection

what by playing them all the whole game..and not mixing it up completely at HT..???

The whole game?!?

Where did I ever say that as that would be stupid!

I would love to see how Arsenal and Manchester United did it on the tours they are on, probably loads of subs about the 70th mark and not letting anyone do 90 minutes.

Chelsea vs Pompey today used a team for each half...

Chelsea: Turnbull (Hilario 46); Ferreira © (Bosingwa 46), Kalas (Chalobah 46), Ivanovic (Terry 46), Cole (van Aanholt 46 (Bertrand 71)); Clifford (Benayoun 46), Mikel (McEachran 46), Zhirkov (Lampard 46); Sturridge (Anelka 46), Malouda (Kalou 46); Torres (Drogba 46)

It is quite a common practice in order to give game time and fitness building for the whole squad early in preseason.
