Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Be interesting to see the line-up tonight. Wonder whether the starting XI will be more akin to NA's first choice line up or whether it'll be a complete mix up & a different team each half, as against Biel-Bienne? Also wonder Jack Cork is up to speed yet or whether he's still playing catch up after the extra time off after the U21 tournament.
Saint_lambden Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 I think he said post match against Biel he'd play two different teams each half.
Pilchards Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 I think he said post match against Biel he'd play two different teams each half. I hope not! This is what ****s me off, the amount of times we start the first game of the season and a manager will admit I'm not sure what my best team is yet. Get the players upto match fitness quickly and start to gel as a team please. Thank you.
itchen_dan Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 I think he said post match against Biel he'd play two different teams each half. Yep he says on one of the saints player interviews that he intends to have 2 different XI's again and looking to experiment with different players and systems.
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Yep he says on one of the saints player interviews that he intends to have 2 different XI's again and looking to experiment with different players and systems. Surely that's what pre-season is all about?
Mr saint Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 I hope not! This is what ****s me off, the amount of times we start the first game of the season and a manager will admit I'm not sure what my best team is yet. Get the players upto match fitness quickly and start to gel as a team please. Thank you. What an incredibly stupid comment. How is he supposed to know what his best XI is if he can't even test out other players in the squad in pre-season friendlies? I wonder how our fans will get on against this lot: I rekon our fans will outsing this lot.

Minsk Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Yep he says on one of the saints player interviews that he intends to have 2 different XI's again and looking to experiment with different players and systems. Which is exactly what he should be doing at this stage of pre-season. Then get closer to his actual preferred starting 11 as we get closer to the start of the season. Given that we have only brought in one new player, so far, I recken Nige has a good idea as to what his preferred starting 11 would be (given certain player's fitness levels, the opposition, tactics being empolyed that game, etc - which is why it is all about having a good and fit SQUAD not FIRST 11). P.S. What time is kick-off today?
S-Clarke Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 I hope not! This is what ****s me off, the amount of times we start the first game of the season and a manager will admit I'm not sure what my best team is yet. Get the players upto match fitness quickly and start to gel as a team please. Thank you. They're already gelled as a team though, most of us know what our best 11 is and I'm pretty sure he does. They've been together for 2 years! Pre-season is all about getting the entire squad up to fitness, not just the starting 11. So i hope he plays 2 different teams otherwise it's a bit of a waste of time.
Matthew Le God Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 (edited) I think it is likely that the West Brom and Yeovil games are where you will see the first XI play together for a significant part of the game. The St Gallen, FC Biel, Werder Bremen and Athletic Bilbao games will see a mix up of the first team squad in order to get the whole squad fit and back playing football. LeBenali Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Anybody know when the lads are back from Switzerland? Was thinking of going to the Under 21 match against Totton on Weds, and wondered if the likes of Martin, Doble etc will be playing.

bugenhagen Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Saints 1st Half Team: Davis. Richardson, Fonte ©, Seaborne, Dickson. Chamberlain, Cork, Schneiderlin, Lallana. Guly, Lambert
Crab Lungs Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 http://www.fcsg.ch/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-142/801_read-2996/ That says ML died of a heart attack? Not that it's relevant to the game, but was it ever disclosed what the cause of death was?
Saint Charlie Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Harding not in either team. First half team looks very strong, close to a first choice XI.
Nexstar Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Now THAT is a strong side! Good to see Fonte looks to be next in line to the captain's throne.
SaintBobby Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 2nd half team will be: Bart, B'field, Jaidi, Martin, Reeves, Holmes, Chaplow, Hammond ©, Forte, Connolly, Barnard
Joesaint Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Saints 1st Half Team: Davis. Richardson, Fonte ©, Seaborne, Dickson. Chamberlain, Cork, Schneiderlin, Lallana. Guly, Lambert WOW that looks good COYS
egg Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Both teams look strong. Interesting that Harding isn't featuring though, especially after being played out of position the other night.
benjii Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Harding not in either team. I wouldn't necessarily read anything into that. Maybe Adkins just wants to get a decent look at Reeves.
Joesaint Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 2nd half team will be: Bart, B'field, Jaidi, Martin, Reeves, Holmes, Chaplow, Hammond ©, Forte, Connolly, Barnard TBF this looks a great team as well, think we have a really good squad.
egg Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Who is Reeves? Ben reeves, young left back from youth team
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 16 July, 2011 Author Posted 16 July, 2011 Who is Reeves? Used to be Superman
SaintBobby Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Any good? Only seen him play one academy game two years ago...was best player on the pitch
Appy Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Any good? Average. But that's my conclusion from one pre season game at Barnet.
Matthew Le God Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Average. But that's my conclusion from one pre season game at Barnet. A pre-season game he came on in the 81st minute. What did you expect him to do in 10 minutes?
smithy Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Only seen him play one academy game two years ago...was best player on the pitch Guessing Adkins has seen something in him to start him in the stronger line up. Nice to see the kids being brought through.
Matthew Le God Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Guessing Adkins has seen something in him to start him in the stronger line up. He isn't in the the stronger line-up. He is in the weaker 2nd half team.
John B Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 A pre-season game he came on in the 81st minute. What did you expect him to do in 10 minutes? I saw him play at Farnborough last season did OK but nothing special
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 What an incredibly stupid comment. Faz Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 I saw him play at Farnborough last season did OK but nothing special He's a kid FFS. Give him a chance.
smithy Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 He isn't in the the stronger line-up. He is in the weaker 2nd half team. Oops. Still good to see the youngsters getting a run out.

Thedelldays Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Despite the abuse Pilchards Adkins seems to agree with you with his team selection what by playing them all the whole game..and not mixing it up completely at HT..???
John B Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 He's a kid FFS. Give him a chance. He was OK nothing Special If he had been outstanding I would have said so He was rather small but got stuck in
Appy Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 A pre-season game he came on in the 81st minute. What did you expect him to do in 10 minutes? Hence the average, you don't really get more than that in 10 minutes.
Pilchards Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 (edited) what by playing them all the whole game..and not mixing it up completely at HT..??? The whole game?!? Where did I ever say that as that would be stupid! I would love to see how Arsenal and Manchester United did it on the tours they are on, probably loads of subs about the 70th mark and not letting anyone do 90 minutes. Thedelldays Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 I think he said post match against Biel he'd play two different teams each half. I hope not! . there he has already said he will ring all the changes at HT
NickG Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 just noticed Reeves and Dean are listed on first team squad profiles on OS - have they recently been put there?

Chelsea vs Pompey today used a team for each half... Chelsea: Turnbull (Hilario 46); Ferreira © (Bosingwa 46), Kalas (Chalobah 46), Ivanovic (Terry 46), Cole (van Aanholt 46 (Bertrand 71)); Clifford (Benayoun 46), Mikel (McEachran 46), Zhirkov (Lampard 46); Sturridge (Anelka 46), Malouda (Kalou 46); Torres (Drogba 46) It is quite a common practice in order to give game time and fitness building for the whole squad early in preseason.

benjii Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Half-time. Nil all. Nervy second half in store. We can't afford to lose this one.
