Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 15 July, 2011 Posted 15 July, 2011 He deserves it and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who disagrees. Quite. I think there would have been understandable outrage if he had been let off.
Colinjb Posted 15 July, 2011 Posted 15 July, 2011 Whatever happened to the idiot child that dropped a fire extinguisher from the top of an office block nearly hitting a policeman?

Sheaf Saint Posted 15 July, 2011 Posted 15 July, 2011 Loving the irony of the the fact that his father's most famous song included the chorus "We don't need no education"
saintscottofthenortham Posted 15 July, 2011 Posted 15 July, 2011 Good. So very easily could have been a much bigger news story, for all the wrong reasons.
Verbal Posted 15 July, 2011 Posted 15 July, 2011 Loving the irony of the the fact that his father's most famous song included the chorus "We don't need no education" That would be his stepfather.
Micky Posted 15 July, 2011 Posted 15 July, 2011 He deserves to get banged up - but the fact of the matter is, had his (step)father not been probably one of the best musicians in the world, this would be nothing more than 3 lines on page 25 that nobody would have got too bothered about.
Crazy Diamond Posted 15 July, 2011 Posted 15 July, 2011 That would be his stepfather. Indeed, a fact that a lot of people seem to be forgetting. Never mind though, step father or father, he still probably never had to pay for his tuition fees, and if a Cambridge student supposedly doesn't know what the Cenotaph is for, that's a crime he ought to go down for anyway. Wonder how he'll find prison...

Wonder how he'll find prison... He won't have to find one, they will take him to one.
Sheaf Saint Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 That would be his stepfather. Alright, his stepfather then. Is there really any point splitting heirs!
Hatch Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 He deserves to get banged up - but the fact of the matter is, had his (step)father not been probably one of the best musicians in the world, this would be nothing more than 3 lines on page 25 that nobody would have got too bothered about. It was front page news before they even knew he was, never mind who his father was. First editions of the papers showed him swinging on the Cenotaph with the caption that it was a girl.
Sheaf Saint Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Apparently his defense in court was that he had a 'momentary lapse of reason'
Thedelldays Posted 16 July, 2011 Author Posted 16 July, 2011 Apparently his defense in court was that he had a 'momentary lapse of reason' that is what vodka and LSD does to you

I stand corrected (slightly) - I still don't believe it would've got half the press without the celebrity angle.
Minsk Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 It's a shame he was bailed to complete his exams, and it's a shame he wasn't sent down for longer.
Hamilton Saint Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Loving the irony of the the fact that his father's most famous song included the chorus "We don't need no education" I think you'll find that one was written by Roger Waters.
Pancake Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Loving the irony of the the fact that his father's most famous song included the chorus "We don't need no education" His Dad is Roger Waters?
Pancake Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 I think you'll find that one was written by Roger Waters. Argh, read tithe end of the thread Pancake.
Deano6 Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Loving the irony of the the fact that his father's most famous song included the chorus "We don't need no education" Is Roger Waters his Dad then?
Sheaf Saint Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 Christ on a bike, what is it with all the pedantry on this thread? I know The Wall was written by Roger Waters (I've been to his house near Romsey BTW, though that's a different story) but that's besides the point. Gilmour is part of the band, and if you ask anyone to name a famous Pink Floyd song, which one do you think 99% of people will respond with?
aintforever Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 16 months is a bit harsh. probably got more because how high profile it is, that's not right IMO.
Saintandy666 Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 16 months is harsh, but I think he has realised the consequences of his actions. An intelligent person by the looks of it, but probably right spoilt and thought he could do whatever the hell he wanted. He has learnt now.
View From The Top Posted 16 July, 2011 Posted 16 July, 2011 There are posters on here that got 4 years for much, much less. Nevertheless, this fella deserved it.

To be fair there are probably a few who have done worse than throw a bin, sit on a car and smash a window and not spend any time in jail. If it's 16 months for doing that how long can Barnard expect for smashing a bottle in someone's face? 3-4 years would be fair. Edited 16 July, 2011 by aintforever

Verbal Posted 17 July, 2011 Posted 17 July, 2011 Loving the irony of the the fact that his father's most famous song included the chorus "We don't need no education" So it turns out that that David Gilmour is not Charlie Gilmour's father; David Gilmour did not write "We Don't Need No Education" but merely did the backing vocals and a bit of guitar noodling; and the song wasn't actually called "We Don't Need No Education" but "Another Brick in the Wall Part 2". We expect higher standards on Saintsweb.
Ludwig Posted 17 July, 2011 Posted 17 July, 2011 Never mind though, step father or father, he still probably never had to pay for his tuition fees That's irrelevant. Most at that march wouldn't be affected by the tuition fee rises. Solidarity for those who will be affected is surely a positive trait, rather than another stick to beat him with. It's not as though his actions yielded the production of a more than justified proverbial baseball bat to smash him over the head with...
1976_Child Posted 17 July, 2011 Posted 17 July, 2011 The stupid rich-kid lay-about deserves it. Hope he is sent to a real prison, not one of these soft open ones. How dare he - the gilded son of a multi-millionaire - think he can can **** all over the Cenotaph, swing from the flags and cause a riot just because his precious little soft hands will have to work to pay for his non-compulsory education. He's a spoiled little rich kid. I would have no more sympathy for a working class yob so why should I cry about this little ***t. Hope he learns a thing or two in the clink.

This little pr!ck did. The disgrace of it alone should see him bashing rocks together for many years.
Jonnyboy Posted 17 July, 2011 Posted 17 July, 2011 Where abouts near Romsey does Roger waters live? I think Nick Mason lives in the new forest Dave Gilmour has a lock up at an industrial unit next to my work filled with all his touring gear (near Romsey)
Verbal Posted 17 July, 2011 Posted 17 July, 2011 If the sentence is partly because he bounced on the bonnet of those two parasites, then, for that, he should be thanked not imprisoned.

Jonnyboy Posted 18 July, 2011 Posted 18 July, 2011 Dave Gilmour has a lock up at an industrial unit next to my work filled with all his touring gear (near Romsey) Sorry, I meant Roger Waters, doh.
Hamilton Saint Posted 19 July, 2011 Posted 19 July, 2011 Sorry, I meant Roger Waters, doh. But which one's Pink?
thefunkygibbons Posted 20 July, 2011 Posted 20 July, 2011 I think he should be very worried if he hears any of the lags say, "Hey you" to him It won't be the start of a singalong
Smirking_Saint Posted 20 July, 2011 Posted 20 July, 2011 16 months is a bit harsh. probably got more because how high profile it is, that's not right IMO. So the fact that it could be classed as incitement ?? An altogether worse crime then just throwing a couple of bins etc ?? You need to be careful what you do when involved in a protest etc as, probably in this case, you could be found to be inciting a crowd.
manji Posted 20 July, 2011 Posted 20 July, 2011 Complete and utter knob but a prison sentence ? Really ?
alpine_saint Posted 20 July, 2011 Posted 20 July, 2011 I think he should be very worried if he hears any of the lags say, "Hey you" to him It won't be the start of a singalong I doubt very much he's going into anything but an open prison....
Seaford Saint Posted 20 July, 2011 Posted 20 July, 2011 I can't help but think this is political....how many chances do you have to avoid prison when you steal cars, do some house breaking? Is it the fact that he was protesting against those who run the country? Would a football hooligan have got a similar sentence for a one off offence with no previous. I don't think so.
Wilko Posted 20 July, 2011 Posted 20 July, 2011 People have done much worse, only to be let off with short community punishments.
Durleyfos Posted 20 July, 2011 Posted 20 July, 2011 Likely to be something from Dark Side of the Moon or Wish You Were Here. But lots of others to choose from! Echoes? Shine On You Crazy Diamond? Us and Them? Money? The Great Gig In The Sky? See Emily Play? Astronomy Domine? One of These Days? Arnold Layne? Not heard of any of those apart from 'Money' & 'Shine on...'. Not a big PF fan. Another brick... is probably their most famous song.
