Big Bad Bob Posted 15 July, 2011 Share Posted 15 July, 2011 Lambert has been lucky to get by unscathed for 2 seasons. Lambert was carrying an injury for most of last season. I'll hold my hand up and admit to slagging him off at the start of the season BUT given the circumstances I think the boy done good..
revolution saint Posted 15 July, 2011 Share Posted 15 July, 2011 To be honest looking at the state of the market there doesn't seem to be that many domestic league strikers that are realistic signings that would improve us much, and the ones that are out there seem to have very high price tags. I'd be happy with an overseas signing - they're cheaper and there must be some half decent talent that would see us as a good career move. There's also the fact that an overseas signing that no one really knows much about tends to generate a bit of excitement - albeit probably with unrealistic expectations. Guly, Waigo, Delgado, Pahars etc were signings I couldn't wait to see play - although obviously not all of them worked out.
Miltonaggro Posted 15 July, 2011 Share Posted 15 July, 2011 CB and quick forward are a must IMO BEFORE 6th August... Someone mentioned Delfouenso on another thread, would definitely do a job for us... Simeon Jackson - would Norwich let him go? Marvin Emnes? Frazer Campbell? Would he take a step down? Emnes would be a very good shout...
Golden Balls Posted 15 July, 2011 Share Posted 15 July, 2011 I have a really good feeling Guly will have a great season. He's had his first year in England now and has settled. As we wont have too many teams parking the bus infront of goal, he'll get a bit more space.
latter day saint Posted 15 July, 2011 Share Posted 15 July, 2011 (edited) How about Berbatov on loan? I'm not sure he is one for the future as he couldn't make uniteds champions league final squad. Certainly do a job in this league though and would fancy it I reckon after his falling out with fergie over that game. too lazy ffs ! When you think about that list, it's only Delgado (and his shadow Chala), who failed to make an impact. How about a striker in the Ostenstad mould for this league, he would tear it a new one!... I'll hold my hand up and admit to slagging him off at the start of the season BUT given the circumstances I think the boy done good.. Well I was thinking in term of " long-layoffs" ala Connolly /Barnard / Holmes type injuries, rather than "carrying injuries", and Lambert did well playing through the season and missed only a few games, but still got 20+ goals -that 'aint bad ! ** Alan Shearer once said ..there is a lot of difference between being " fit enough to play "and being fully "match-fit " Beattie, MLT, Channon and Ron Davies before him (Lambert) also showed courage to play through the pain barrier - and still scored goals. Delgado wasn't " fit enough " for Strachan to want to play him, but he still went to the "002 World Cup and scored for Equador ! , however...an Östenstad-type striker would be good. You need a big man, and a shorter guy to pay off him....type Beattie / Pahars nowadays Lambert / Barnard or Connolly...I'd still like to see a Lambert " clone" signed soon...even if he doesn't guarantee 20 goals. jjsaint Posted 15 July, 2011 Share Posted 15 July, 2011 It is surprising how few decent players are available at the moment. I can't think of any forwards who a) would be anywhere near what we've already got, b) are available and c) would be a realistic target.

That's because they're mostly training with Prem sides hoping they don't have to go out on loan or get sold to Championship sides at the moment. revolution saint Posted 15 July, 2011 Share Posted 15 July, 2011 Not sure I understand that `joke' on this thread. I agree. Whilst obviously the ideas of signing Owen, Parker etc are laughable so are the constant references to them as well. I suppose it's meant to be funny but it's not, it's just boring. It's as tedious as the "Has Skacel signed?" joke.

Saint Martini Posted 15 July, 2011 Share Posted 15 July, 2011 Mathias Ranégie from BK Häcken in Sweden. He's scoring goals for fun at the moment in the Allsvenskan and because he's had his breakthrough at a later age he might be tempted to come over to a Championship side. He's a very big (1m96/91kl.) player but has decent pace. He's also played for Sweden twice during their winter tour (played without players not playing in Sweden or Norway) scoring one goal. I don't know how much he'll cost but I can't imagine it being much more then 1 million pounds and probably lower.

To be fair to those ones they are probably thinking a stage ahead and that he won't cut it on a champions league winning side, you cnt blame them as this is the vision but one step at a time hey!! Crazy Diamond Posted 17 July, 2011 Share Posted 17 July, 2011 Marvin Sordell? He fits the bill. Wouldn't say no to that. He was scouted by Liverpool when very young, he actually turned them down to play for Watford. They need the cash, he might want to try and get to the Prem. Very highly rated. Smirking_Saint Posted 17 July, 2011 Share Posted 17 July, 2011 Again 50 goals and over 30 assists in 2 seasons. Since when has he not been worth his place?! I didn't think he fitted in with the way we play last season, and got fed up watching him carry his carcass around generally not getting in good enough positions, so often when we made storming runs up the wings did we swing balls into an empty box or had to wait for lardy to catch up. IMO he might struggle this year, I would love it if he proves me wrong and smashes in over 30, but I struggle to see that happening. All IMHO anyways. Dig Dig Posted 17 July, 2011 Share Posted 17 July, 2011 He did have to play a different role last season but he was still up there with the top scorers in the league. Where he has been consistenly over the last 4 seasons at least. We all know he's not the most mobile of players but his other attributes more than make up for that. It' not his fault he was asked to do a different role.
