dubai_phil Posted 18 August, 2011 Share Posted 18 August, 2011 Don't care if it's free. Don't care if it's 20 quid a year. Knowing enough about IT I know Baj & Steve do their best, and knowing them both realise that it is a thankless hobby. All I want is for it to work. What I DON'T want is for this site to so time out my IE that it causes me to have to reboot because I also lost Saints Player. If we need to simply sign up into a chat room for match days until we migrate into the Cloud then could SOMEBODY who knows more about these things find us one then post the link so we don't have the same trouble on Saturday? ericofarabia Posted 18 August, 2011 Share Posted 18 August, 2011 As a partly independent response to the new server plans, I have to say that Steve has come up trumps. The new server we will be running, along with "connection speed" it will be sat on is light years ahead of what we have at the moment. To get what we have for the price that steve has negotiated is a bit of a coup, especially given that it will be looked after by a proper systems administrator, as opposed to two programmers who do sys admin as "part" of their day jobs. I for one am excited Yay ... Stevie G is The NC of Football Forum Admins. Fingers crossed this will do the business..... I think my renewal is due soonish and I've a fiver burning a hole in my pocket here!!! The Match Day thread and its problems is quite an emotive issue for those of us who are unable to attend games for whatever reason. It adds so much to the day's / evening's proceedings being able to interact with like minded (and even not so like minded LOL) fans exchanging witty retorts and banter, just like being sat with a few mates at the game. It gives a bit of insight and entertainment to those who are not able to listen to Real Time Commentary and sure as hell beats F5 ing BBC txt updates etc. I am not, or even intend to be a Twitter / FaceBook or MSN follower .... guess I'm to Old School to be Cool. Being an absolute technophobe I can't offer any insightful help into finding a solution, but I pray the new deal will be a success. Cheers Guys. Bit of a workaround but install Firefox and use that for one or the other. That should prevent Saintsweb timeouts killing your saintsplayer. Big Bad Bob Posted 18 August, 2011 Share Posted 18 August, 2011 (edited) Bit of a workaround but install Firefox and use that for one or the other. That should prevent Saintsweb timeouts killing your saintsplayer. Or better still use Google Chrome FWIW I don't think it's an underpowered server problem, I think it's more likely to be a network problem, or moreover a network contention issues. That is 500 people all trying to get the data through the network is going to cause bottlenecks, it's like you all trying to queue up to go into Primark on sales day, if they only have one or two doors open there's going to be queues. If they open 20 doors the queues are likely to be a lot less although not totally eliminated. So, I'm guessing that the old server didn't have many NICs (doors) but the new one does, hence there should be less contention for network resources. Barry the Badger Posted 18 August, 2011 Share Posted 18 August, 2011 Not if he has to re-boot it won't. That wasn't how I read it, I thought he was saying IE dies also taking saintsplayer with it. Just trying to be helpful. Alternatively, until things are sorted, if on Windows 7 install 'xp mode'. You can then run a virtual xp machine within your windows 7 desktop which you coud use to view saintsweb, with the saintsplayer running on the main win7 desktop. Then if ie crashes, you only have to reboot the xp virtual machine. To be honest though, if a webpage timeout causes your entire computer to need a reboot, there's probably something wrong with your computer. Cascadia Saint Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 Two points, with a common theme. Rather than hide behind smoke, mirrors and flashy language why not just state 1. What exactly this new server, light years ahead of the current one, actually is, its configuration and let those in the know decide whether it's light years ahead or not 2. Rather than the "if you want to see the accounts, go download them yourself" stance why not just publish them on the board. If there is nothing to be ashamed off in them why the reluctance to make them available And maybe they can wipe your arse for you too? "smoke and mirrors"? He just explained what his opinion was of the improvements coming our way. Entitled doesn't come close to describing some of the ungrateful sods on here.
