Crab Lungs Posted 13 July, 2011 Share Posted 13 July, 2011 Especially given that Sven loves a 4-4-2 and Konchesky's not much of a left back if he's not pushing forward. We should revisit the Konchesky lol'ing 2 months into the season... I bet if we view a Leicester board around that time they'll be going; "40k pw, seriously? He's lower-average Champ left-back!" Crazy Diamond Posted 13 July, 2011 Share Posted 13 July, 2011 Leicester ought to look at last season. For me, the strongest squad by far was Cardiff's. They had some very good players in that team and probably on the face of it underachieved. It requires more than an expensively assembled team to escape this division. QPR had a team of grafters - the likes of Derry and Hill. Norwich didn't have a brilliant team if you ask me. They will need a lot more than big earners and a big name manager to achieve promotion. benjii Posted 13 July, 2011 Share Posted 13 July, 2011 "He couldn't motivate a flea"... Now, please indulge me. I know what you are trying to say. You are trying to say that he lacks motivational skills. I cannot for one second, however, see how the statement that a person cannot motivate a flea is supposed to be evidence that the person lacks motivational skills. Fleas are very basic creatures. They do not comprehend human methods of communication. Quite how any human is supposed to motivate a flea in any way at all is unclear and the prospect of anyone being able to do so seems pretty remote, to say the least. So, to say that someone cannot motivate a flea should not in any way to be taken as a reproach.
Cabrone Posted 13 July, 2011 Share Posted 13 July, 2011 Leicester continue to sign expensive players I wouldn't want. On paper Konchesky looks alright, but he's been poor for a long time. I'd rather have Harding and a bit of team spirit, fewer money grabbing ******s. Leicester will have a team of big egos on big money not giving two ****s about the club. Amazed anyone is still jealous. Perhaps short term success will come, but look at it objectively, we're signing players who may well be decent top flight players, they're on the way up, hungry and determined. Leicester are signing players on the way down wanting to cash in. Agreed, looks like Sven wants to either promote them or bankrupt them. Totally mental. Much rather do it the way we are, bit by bit, adding value slowly but surely.

benjii Posted 13 July, 2011 Share Posted 13 July, 2011 Does anyone remember that programme that went out on the eve of World Cup 2006 (I think it was on Ch4) that featured people impersonating Sven and Becks etc? It was filmed as a fly-on-the-wall stlye documentary as Sven got to grips with work in England. It was foooking hilarious.

The two aren't really fair comparisons. What was the top fee we spent in League One - was it Lambert for a million? Matt Mills has just signed for five times that. If we had spent that kind of money in League One, yes, I would have had a problem with it actually. Does Sven even have a budget I wonder. Perhaps its just a case of him saying 'we want XYZ' and they pay whatever. Certainly seems that way.

I think, at the end of two season, Huddersfield may have just overtaken us in money spent trying to buy their way out of the league. And possibly Brighton too.. We spent big on a couple of players, they spent less big on a few more players. I think, I have no numbers or figures to back up this conjecture..... I think it already has, some sources are saying it'll be in excess of that when add-ons are activated, but there's nothing concrete. Put it this way - I didn't like us spending the £7 million or so we did back in 06/07. I wouldn't want us to spend that amount of money in this division again. I think, at the end of two season, Huddersfield may have just overtaken us in money spent trying to buy their way out of the league. And possibly Brighton too..
