Good shout, except i would replace Forest with the Foxes. Where would you place Saints ?
sperm_john Posted 16 July, 2011 Share Posted 16 July, 2011 cant understand everyone thinking the players, cortese and NA are going to accept a mid table, or just missed the play offs season ... we have team unity at the moment, players that we were happy to shout about in league one 'they could play championship or even low end prem' and all of a sudden we are simply mediocre, I think all indications from Adkins and the camp i.e. corks latest interview where he mentions promotion to the prem this season ..are that we are going to be challenging. I have faith with or without signings, the saints could well be going up again, a la norwich style ...
Rory Posted 16 July, 2011 Share Posted 16 July, 2011 It's difficult to say at the moment but I don't think we'll penetrate the top eight. Of course, we proved our mettle against Championship and Premier League teams last season, but can we maintain it throughout an entire season? I'm not so sure. We fully deserved promotion but it wasn't easy and scraped through some games IMO. Adkins is clearly a good manager but he needs to make sure that, unless we bring in a string of new signings, the players he has currently at his disposal relax, play good football and win convincingly. That said, there was monumental pressure on the players last season to achieve promotion, so perhaps we could be a surprise package this time round without bearing the burden. Dalek2003 Posted 16 July, 2011 Share Posted 16 July, 2011 This is a good debate. In May and early June most fans agreed that the team was good but needed strengthening for the new campaign in a higher league. This has not happened (yet). If it doesn't happen is it fair to say that this was not what people expected ? Therefore, of course fans will lower their expectations. I agree that Cortese want us to become a premier league. In which case if we do not strengthen he is either a. Supremely confident in the squad we have already. b. Has a plan to strengthen...although time is running out before the start of the season. c. Will strengthen in the windows. d. Is hoping for a bit of luck and a minor miracle. All will be a lot more clear come the end of August. FWIW I think we should have strengthened the squad early on. So, I hope i am wrong but i see us finishing 19th.

Sproston Green Posted 16 July, 2011 Share Posted 16 July, 2011 Jaidi, Seaborne, Hammond, Schneiderlin, Lambert - use these players and we will struggle big time and Adkins will be gone within no time at all. This league will be alot tougher than most expect and at this moment in time we will be lucky to reach mid table if things are not strengthened considerably. Attacking (Connolly staying fit) we will be fairly good, midfield & defence is the big big worry! Did not see Aaron Martin last season so maybe he can be the missing key in defence needed with Fonte
