Clapham Saint Posted 11 July, 2011 Share Posted 11 July, 2011 I have 6 halogen lights (I think 50w) linked in pairs to a single transformer (with 3 outputs). The transfermoer has blown and I'm buggered if I can find the same one on-line ( it was already installed when we bought the house a year ago). I also don't seem to be able to find a alternative trasformer with multiple outputs that doesn't cost an absolute arm and a leg. Does anybody have any recomentadions? If I get 3 transformers can i split the input cable easily enough? I've never tried to play wit my electrics before (just incase my lack of knowledge wasn't totally obvious). Thanks in advance as always, CS
saintscottofthenortham Posted 12 July, 2011 Share Posted 12 July, 2011 Whenever I have installed halogen lights each fitting has had it's own individual transformer. Any idea how old the lights are? Running all 6 off of the one transformer might be asking a bit much of it and may have burnt out because of this. Are you able to see the Power Rating of the transformer? You want to see for sure what Wattage your bulbs are, multiply by the amount of lights you have and get a transformer with a sufficient power rating. So if they are 50w bulbs you will need a 300w transformer. Although..... the biggest I have ever seen is 150w so no idea if you can get 300w.
