    • Non-stickied weekly rumours thread, allowing spin-off threads

There is a third way. Keep a rumours and a HCDAJU thread but non-stickied, that way it will rise to top on merit. If a particular player gathers any credence I am sure that a thread will be opened. Given that it is the silly season there are not too many active threads anyway.

Suggest we batch it so as not to create such a huge thread.

That is a good compromise.

Weekly or daily batching?

There is a fourth way: just let it ****ing be and don't start telling the users what threads they may or may not have.

FFS.

No it's not. It's a crock of ****. Why do we need a regulated approach to summer rumours?

Can you people not see the absurdity of this? It's ****ing loony. Is this a football forum or a public sector red-tape forum?

And personally I was surprised that people took offence to it in the first place and it was closed. Clearly it was a popular and interesting thread and it was always possible to ignore. If anyone is being over the top then it's you - puppy being stabbed? Bit of a drama queen post really.

Thank you. I am happier with that post than ever now.

Does this really need regulation FFS?!

Bizarre, frankly. Have a mega-thread - what harm is it doing? If people want to start spin-off threads then that is fine too. All this, "there's already a thread" ******** from the mods is precisely that: boll ox. Wasn't the £5 supposed to provide a forum that had the bandwidth to cope with more than one ****ing summer signings thread?

If someone wants to start a thread about a particular rumour, that is fine. If someone wants to post and read a consolidated rumour thread, that is fine. Just woe-betide that any such thread, of whatever hue, containeth "sarcasm" or "pointlessness".

It's always mental how mods on this forum will zealously jump all over anything like this but will ignore the trolling and idiocy spewed out by the more ghastly posters.

And there are too many sub-forums.

Genuinely the size of the thread is not a technical issue. I think the Pompey Takeover thread proves that. The feeling was that these massive threads can wander off topic, restarting has the effect of re-focussing.

Honestly I am not arsed either way, I'll only ever remove threads if there is a clear duplication.

As for the trolling and idiocy, if you spot it - report it.

I think there should two separate forums - one for people who want one long rumour thread and one for those who wish to have many shorter, yet more personalised threads. One could be called SaintsWebForum(long) and the other SaintsWebForum(short). Everyone should be made to re-register and choose if they are going to follow SWF(l) or SWF(s) and once that decision is made no-one can look at the other forum unless they pay an admin fee of £15

Admirable passion, Benjii.

We clearly have some strong views about the closure of the thread. I'm not sure that the "closer crowd" have the same conviction? Anyone vehemently against the resurrection of the thread? Are there technical reasons not to do so?

Exactly, it's a thread on a football forum. Just re-open the thing and leave it. It was fine the way it was

If this is adopted, and I think it's a good idea, then we need to have some sort of roster system before people make their choices. The worst posters should be made to choose first so that when I make my choice I go on the forum with the good ones.

Yes exactly. The system was working well whereby you had one big thread detailing all the overheard rumours and nonsense and a new thread was started for a player when it was a little more concrete. Now we have a situation where we are just going to get loads of tenuous stories in separate threads.

You'll forgive me for not noticing a single individual player thread in the past 3 of 4 weeks since the mega-thread was going.

I'm pretty much with you on this one, just leave it alone. That way people can discuss the rumours in two places if they like.

should we not have an intermediate forum as well? I wouldn't want to over commit but also, I don't want to sell myself short.

So after all that, are we allowed a stickied rumour thread?

Then ignore it. Personally the kit thread is boring beyond belief for me - have I posted on it? No. Have I called for it to be closed? No.

Same goes for me with the transfer rumour megathread, and I have been ignoring it, just like the Pompey Takeover thread (since about March 2010) because I can't be bothered to try and catch up.

I do feel completely out of the loop on the transfer bullsh 1t though because I can't be arsed to wade through it, and I wish people were able to post individual threads as well.

I saw a few. Maybe the mods locked them which IMO is the wrong approach.

Agreed. There seems to be far too much modding of nothing in particular going on generally. Possibly because the mods have less to look at, so they're more obvious when they do things ?

The voting options need looking at. There's no option to let people post as they see fit, which is the only thing I'd vote for. Threads can be closed if there's good reason (the regular píssing contests being an example), posters can be infracted if the mods have reason to do so. But why the hell can't someone start a thread for rumours, which is allowed to run as long as it runs and simply drop down the list if nobody's posting on it? I find the idea of a weekly rumour thread more than a little ludicrous, to be honest.

It is completely ludicrous and you are quite right.

Moderation is about ensuring content stays within defined paramaters. It is not about setting up stupid little rules telling users what they can and can't write about.

Agree. In light on general opinion and the poll, crack on.
