Unfortunately it's the price of success. You can't have a successful self sustained club giving it's supporterss bargains. Ask man city fans, Chelsea fans etc. The upgrades to the stadium and the playing staff need to be subsidised by increased revenue. You'd be a silly business person if you didn't plan to cover the costs, you'd end up running at a massive loss that just kept increasing.

We have great facilities that cost a fair bit to maintain too.

I won't be renewing either. Far too expensive now. And no concessional rates either.

The thing is, everyone who isn't renewing has to reply and tell them why.

What do you actually get for the money? If it's decent then surely less than 2quid per match isn't bad?

A bar next to the ground. There are plenty of options within a 10-15 minute walk of the ground so I know what I would do.

or what, they take money from your account? don't you just love those automatic opt in schemes? Out of interest how much is beer and if it in plastic glasses? Are there seats, TVs etc?

Whats the point in the Dell Club now, it used to be quite good with ex players as guests and a sports quiz but that doesnt happen anymore. After the game they offer live entertainment and to meet some of the players in the concourse and thats all for free in the Dell Club you get nothing.

Well I think I'd be inclined to be perfectly honest, and tell them it's too much of a price hike, if that's how you feel.

Sorry, my mistake. We haven't been successful at all in the last 2 years.

you are comparing us to Chelsea and Man City, he was pointing out we have just been runners up in the 3rd division, don't get carried away with "success"

as for Man City, i know they offer some very good ticket prices especially for young and older fans

People will moan about anything. You must expect prices of everything to go up as we rise up the leagues. If you are shocked about this you will probably have a heart attack if the five year plan comes to fruition, you may have to pay more than £2 a game for the Dell Cafe Bar if we are in the Champions League. The higher wages we have to pay to attract a higher calibre of players, the more expensive tickets/membership/merch will become. If it didn't we will soon find ourselves in administration again.....

The policy seems to be less hardcore fans but paying more. It might work for a while as long as we keep winning and floating fans come but bills are going up and wages are not so don't be surprised if there isn't much loyalty from supporters if we have a bad run.

Our aim is to be in the premier league. As proven by Wigan you do not need a large fanbase to be the backbone of your business at that level. It's all about the TV money and corporate spend.

Let's hope we keep winning long enough to get there then. Still it's a bit depressing that we will all be watching the matches on Sky by then, St Mary's will be mostly empty but at least the corporate areas will be full.

I agree..... but i've already reached the point of accepting I shall be following the games on sky when we get back to that level. It's already difficult justifying the fuel/ticket costs, if they continue to go up then it'll be my only choice.

You're not alone there.

I've already told my nipper that there is no chance of me shelling out if/when we get back to the EPL. I just couldn't justify it.

What a joke. What amazes me is how so many fans stand for the rip off price hikes that are going on at present.

Choice is the word you appear to misunderstand...if I'm happy and can afford to then I will...if the opposite is true then I won't!

I'd like an Audi R8...but I can't afford one...I don't like the Nissan Cube...although I can afford one I don't want one.

It's about choice of what you spend your hard-earned on...not making stands about economic decisions.

Which is the obvious choice for you if you object.

The answer to your second comment is probably "Yes". they probably see it as an irritation to have to sacrifice part of the SMS real estate to low rent working class supporters when they could open yet another luxury 'prawn sandwich' super lounge for duckers & divers of international big business

I'm another who won't be renewing my membership and it's to do with perceived value not the increased membership fee. 2seasons ago the beer was cheaper in the Dell Cafe than the concourse but now it's the same, there was a sports quiz, now there's not and a free raffle with a signed ball as the prize.

To compound all this last season they reduced the number of tables and chairs meaning that unless you turn up at opening time you have no chance of a table or seat.

excellent ! another thread to moan about costs going up at St Marys

strange that people state that their bills are rising as a reason for the club not to increase prices but fail to see that the clubs bills/costs have also.

i think most are unhappy with the size of the increases and the way they are assuming, as did others in the past, that you can keep screwing more money out of the same few people.

I stopped being a member a couple of years ago.

It used to be a good club, but went downhill after we were relegated from the Prem.

The beer was dearer and there was no benefits from being a member, apart from reducing the walk from your last beer to the ground.

Now the price has increased again,i bet the place will be empty this coming season.

I was a member for about 3 years and jacked it in a couple of years ago. Absolute joke of a place, no redeeming features whatsoever.

The final straw was the ridiculous rules about signing people in. 4/5 years ago the guys on the door where fine and it wasn't a problem if I turned up with a couple of mates to sign in as they knew I was a paid up member. We all had a couple of beers and everyone was happy.

Then one season I paid up again and they decided if you wanted to sign anyone in you had to contact the club in advance and tell them who and how many etc. I was told this was to do with "Fire regulatons". I lost count of the number of times I was turned away from the door when the place was empty because I hadn't advised of them of my "guests". My advice is don't bother with the place.

increases in wages could be covered by the increase in income from sponsorship, TV money and prize money rather than by putting ticket prices up. That's the sort thing a football club might do, a football business like ours though is never going to overlook that easy revenue stream. I wonder how AFC Wimbledon will do things. Actually how have Swansea done things seeing as they are 20% owned by the fans?

Just out of interest, what choice do football fans have?? You can't afford to go to Saints, do you support another club?

No, you trim elsewhere...

Football is different to another consumer activity, you can't go elsewhere... You either go or you don't...

You can go into the Itchen concourse for a pint after the match if you want to avoid the crowds (assuming it's the same set up as last season).

Not happy about the price increase but i will renew I have been a member there for the last 4 seasons it is handy you can have a drink out of a glass right up to kick off if you want the food is good & it is a good place to meet with your mates & watch the early sky game on a big screen.

Due to the restrictions on numbers it is quite easy to get served quickly the place could be a lot better than it is but for me I find it handy bit miffed it has gone up as much as it has a 37% increase is a bit steep

In the prem we were happy to pay £32 to £38 for a ticket and everything was more expensive. The one silver lining of our fall from grace since 2005 has been the cheaper ticket prices. As we go back up the leagues and generally become successful again, obviously thing become dearer.

Anyway, if theyre bringing in this rule where clubs can only spend what they make, surely prices like this need to be increased so its not a sudden increase when the rule comes in.

How easy is it to get a beer in this Dell bar? Is there enough staff etc

You see, I just don't get this logic. For years I could'nt afford to buy a ticket or a ST to see Saints. Didn't stop me following them. Eventually I got a Membership and now I can afford a ST. Just because something is available, doesn't mean everyone has a right to obtain/own it and this is no different to watching a pro football match. Sorry if this sounds harsh.

I agree with this. Back in the Premier League prices were much higher. It wasn't necessarily that I couldn't afford it, but I couldn't justify the expense to myself of going every single week. So I used to go anywhere between 5 and 10 times a season. The past 3 or 4 seasons I think the value has been much better, and so I've decided to go to games much more often. I've still followed Saints in all that time, but the amount of times I have attended has changed. That's the choice that I made, and that is available to everyone to make. Going to a game of football is a privilege, not a right of everyone.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this.

When I couldn't afford to travel down to Saints or buy a season ticket a few years ago I did go and watch other teams around the midlands. Mainly the likes of Tamworth, Kettering, Leamington but occasionally Coventry City and Birmingham. It filled in my live football fix but at the back of my mind I was always wondering how Saints were getting on. The otherside of this was that I did get into the culture of the other teams and started looking out for their results/happenings etc. I would stop short of saying I started supporting any of them but from the smallest acorns and all that.

So you can go elsewhere, but I appreciate I may be a bit different to most on here because i'm an exile.

I've never been a member but I have drank in there for the past 3 or 4 seasons because a few of my mates are members and have kids. It used to be pretty decent with the Quiz and the kids being occupied with the pool table etc. I loved being able to finish my pint in a proper glass at 14:56 and still make kick off. Needless to say the way it's been recently I won't miss it if my mates choose not to renew.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you manage to get in every week as a non member? Did your mates ring in advance to say you were coming, or did the door staff just turn a blind eye? It always felt to me like a "If your face fits" kind of place, full of regulars who probably never paid a penny to join but had no problem getting in.

My mate's dad used to be a member. I went in there a couple of times with them both. He used to just tell our names to the door staff I think.

Your point is prefectly valid though.

To say "you can't go elsewhere" is basically to say you have some sort of pathological problem that prevents you from not buying a Saints ticket. Well, that's your problem; not the club's.
