Son of Bob Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Can we not just lose the 'chuck everything to do with transfers in one place' thread and start having individual threads on credible and interesting transfer subjects? I for one gave up reading the mega-thread at the top weeks ago as it's so tedious plowing through pages of crap to find posts on one particular player or rumour. Surely, with the transfer window in full operation, it's time to open up individual threads where justified?
Huntingdon Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Totally agree SoB I think individual targets deserve their own thread, they just get lost in amongst the absolute drivel on the rumours thread
ohwhenthesaints Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 How about a permanent transfer rumours forum where we can make a thread for each rumoured signing?
Saint Charlie Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Good idea. Apart from we will then have loads of threads about a rumours from the football rumours site. People will discuss as if they have a chance of happening!

I for one gave up reading the mega-thread at the top weeks ago as it's so tedious plowing through pages of crap to find posts on one particular player or rumour. Surely, with the transfer window in full operation, it's time to open up individual threads where justified? I said this about a week ago, completely agree. I'd rather have a load of separate threads for each player, the ones with merit stay and the cobblers alls off the front page pretty quickly anyway. Not to mention that there isn't much else going on to make it worth looking at the site. Which doesn't stop me checking, of course...
saintjay77 Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 I think I have only had a few looks at the super thread. Can't be bothered to trawl through it to find the odd rumour hidden in there. Separate threads for players makes more sense to me. Even if it's cobblers I will get to see it usually before it drops off the main page.
SaintJackoInHurworth Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 How about a permanent transfer rumours forum where we can make a thread for each rumoured signing? I agree entirely with the OP that the main transfer rumours thread doesn't work, except for a small number of people. I also agree with ohwhenthesaints that the best way of doing this would be to create a sub-forum for transfer rumours. One thing that used to happen on the rumour thread and/or the hcdajfu thread was that an admin would keep the original post updated so that it kept an up-to-date record of suggestions. To return to doing that would be the only way that I could see any sense in maintaining the current format.
Rebel Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 I'm with you on that - let's lose the summer rumours thread
dubai_phil Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Make it a new area so that the normal Saints Forum abuse for snippets can also be toned down. The gossip from "undisclosed/incredible sources" used to be half the fun of the long boring summer wait for something interesting to happen
Saint Garrett Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Agreed...not like there is that much else on this forum at the moment.

I agree - the summer rumours thread is just ridiculous and a huge collective waste of time and effort! Does any of it actually happen?!
the stain Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 This thread is too long. Can we have a new thread where we suggest we get rid of long threads?
S-Clarke Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 I think a sub forum which is only open during the transfer windows would be a great idea. Alot of the other main club forums do this, and it tidy's up the main board tbf.
trousers Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 How about a permanent transfer rumours forum where we can make a thread for each rumoured signing? ^ This
Saint_clark Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Sub forum sounds like a good idea, will bring it up with Steve. Seeing as this is pretty much unanimous so far i'll shut the rumours thread - but can we all agree that any rumour threads started from football-rumours can get deleted?
benjii Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Close thread: yes. Sub-forum: wtf?! Why? Let's have a GK sub-forum, an RB sub-forum, an LB sub-forum etc... a boardroom sub-forum, a ground facilities sub-forum (with separate micro-sub-forums for beer, food, betting and the crappers, obviously), a ticketing sub-forum.... ad nauseum.
trousers Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Close thread: yes. Sub-forum: wtf?! Why? Because it makes sense (on a selective basis) for 'seasonal' topics. For example the temporary 'politics' sub-forum worked well during last year's general election. It's simple a common-sense mechanism for ring-fencing peaks of related post types. That is all. Anyway....back to the serious business of the Internet....
sfc4prem Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 I'm all for the sub-forum. I've seen plenty of other club's messageboards with transfer sub-forums and it seems to work well.
Saint Garrett Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 But then what goes in the main forum? It's not like we're chatting about 100 players here, just ones we're linked with. Especially in the off season, we might as well just stick all the rumours for individual posts on the main board. If they're not popular, then they'll just fall off the bottom of the page, not really a massive issue....
farawaysaint Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 This thread was an unwarranted and politically minded attack on a thread started by me and I will not stand for it!
St Chalet Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 I see that the rumours thread is dead, therefore this one has served it's purpose.
Saint Garrett Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Is thsi the new Summer 2011 rumours thread then ?
wild-saint Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 so where do we put rumours that we have heard or read now? surely we cant warrant opening a new thread for each? Plus the fact most people cant start new threads/

saint_ed Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Can a replacement idea be sorted quickly please as I am bored at work. If someone would be kind enough to make up some more unfounded rumours that would be appreciated.
Micky Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 I'm with Bob, we need a sub forum - all the rumours on 1 thread takes far to much sifting. Isn't this thread in the wrong place though - surely it should be in the Site Suggestions forum where it will probably never be seen...!
the stain Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 This is the first site suggestion that has ever been listened to and it wasn't even posted in the "site suggestion" forum.
Doctoroncall Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 This is the first site suggestion that has ever been listened to and it wasn't even posted in the "site suggestion" forum. So is this now the suggestion thread rather than a closing down a thread thread?
wild-saint Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Just heard some news on a signing but i have nowhere to post it!
hypochondriac Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Well that was a boneheaded thing to do. Close the rumours thread which I actually enjoyed reading on my way to work an replace it with nothing thus far. Genius.
Saint_Ash Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Is the HCDAJFU the new rumours thread? There are loads of rumours going round all the time, does someone have start as new thread everytime a little snippit comes up? Makes the site look active I suppose.
dubai_phil Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Well that was a boneheaded thing to do. Close the rumours thread which I actually enjoyed reading on my way to work an replace it with nothing thus far. Genius. There are some on here who will rejoice tonight at having upset Hypo...... But not me of course
Norm Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 NO! Keep it going. I enjoy reading the silly rumours about us signing Owen, Premiership players etc. I love the nasty comments directed at other posters that dare to disagree with another opinion. I love all the farrrrrrr fetched ideas that we are special and deserve to be automatic for promotion etc etc etc
the stain Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Is the site suggestion forum now defunct? I have some suggestions - where shall I put them?
egg Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Well that was a boneheaded thing to do. Close the rumours thread which I actually enjoyed reading on my way to work an replace it with nothing thus far. Genius. You appear to have missed the point of the op. The stupid thread will be replaced by new threads on a player by player basis. The fact that there is nothing new yet indicates that nothing new is happening. However, if the original thread was still running all sorts of rubbish would have been posted. Good suggestion on the op and a sensible decision imo.
hypochondriac Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Personally I liked the fact that everything was in one place. That way if someone hears a random rumour from a friend then it got posted and everything was in one place. Bit of a shame that they got rid IMO.
Minty Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 Can I suggest that one locked sticky post remains in which a mod lists any new players linked, with the date they're linked, and a link to the appropriate thread. Then there is still one simple place someone can refer to to see if a name has already been mentioned. A rumour index if you will...?
thefunkygibbons Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 rumours need a source, rather than just the fanciful imagination of the poster Hence, I am so far out of it, I cannot see me ever contributing a rumour

david in sweden Posted 11 July, 2011 Posted 11 July, 2011 (edited) Agreed ..that thread is so long now it must be taking up a lot of space...and whose going to go back and read entry no.1037 anyway? Some of the contributions are rather old.. and exactly when is Rudi Skacel going to sign. SUGGESTION: (Mods) IF ... a contribution is "current " and accurate then it ought to come to pass within weeks . So why not dump the thread the last day of every month and start again from zero. What's written in the new month will be accurate and more upto-date. Edited 11 July, 2011 by david in sweden
