Time to lose the 'Summer Rumours' thread.

Can we not just lose the 'chuck everything to do with transfers in one place' thread and start having individual threads on credible and interesting transfer subjects?

I for one gave up reading the mega-thread at the top weeks ago as it's so tedious plowing through pages of crap to find posts on one particular player or rumour. Surely, with the transfer window in full operation, it's time to open up individual threads where justified?

I said this about a week ago, completely agree. I'd rather have a load of separate threads for each player, the ones with merit stay and the cobblers alls off the front page pretty quickly anyway.

Not to mention that there isn't much else going on to make it worth looking at the site.

Which doesn't stop me checking, of course...

I think I have only had a few looks at the super thread. Can't be bothered to trawl through it to find the odd rumour hidden in there. Separate threads for players makes more sense to me. Even if it's cobblers I will get to see it usually before it drops off the main page.

How about a permanent transfer rumours forum where we can make a thread for each rumoured signing?

I agree entirely with the OP that the main transfer rumours thread doesn't work, except for a small number of people. I also agree with ohwhenthesaints that the best way of doing this would be to create a sub-forum for transfer rumours.

One thing that used to happen on the rumour thread and/or the hcdajfu thread was that an admin would keep the original post updated so that it kept an up-to-date record of suggestions. To return to doing that would be the only way that I could see any sense in maintaining the current format.

I agree - the summer rumours thread is just ridiculous and a huge collective waste of time and effort! Does any of it actually happen?!

Close thread: yes. Sub-forum: wtf?! Why?

Let's have a GK sub-forum, an RB sub-forum, an LB sub-forum etc... a boardroom sub-forum, a ground facilities sub-forum (with separate micro-sub-forums for beer, food, betting and the crappers, obviously), a ticketing sub-forum.... ad nauseum.

Because it makes sense (on a selective basis) for 'seasonal' topics. For example the temporary 'politics' sub-forum worked well during last year's general election. It's simple a common-sense mechanism for ring-fencing peaks of related post types.

That is all. Anyway....back to the serious business of the Internet....

But then what goes in the main forum? It's not like we're chatting about 100 players here, just ones we're linked with. Especially in the off season, we might as well just stick all the rumours for individual posts on the main board. If they're not popular, then they'll just fall off the bottom of the page, not really a massive issue....

I'm with Bob, we need a sub forum - all the rumours on 1 thread takes far to much sifting.

Isn't this thread in the wrong place though - surely it should be in the Site Suggestions forum where it will probably never be seen...!

Well that was a boneheaded thing to do. Close the rumours thread which I actually enjoyed reading on my way to work an replace it with nothing thus far. Genius.

There are some on here who will rejoice tonight at having upset Hypo......

But not me of course

NO! Keep it going. I enjoy reading the silly rumours about us signing Owen, Premiership players etc. I love the nasty comments directed at other posters that dare to disagree with another opinion. I love all the farrrrrrr fetched ideas that we are special and deserve to be automatic for promotion etc etc etc

You appear to have missed the point of the op.

The stupid thread will be replaced by new threads on a player by player basis.

The fact that there is nothing new yet indicates that nothing new is happening. However, if the original thread was still running all sorts of rubbish would have been posted.

Good suggestion on the op and a sensible decision imo.

Can I suggest that one locked sticky post remains in which a mod lists any new players linked, with the date they're linked, and a link to the appropriate thread. Then there is still one simple place someone can refer to to see if a name has already been mentioned.

A rumour index if you will...?

Agreed ..that thread is so long now it must be taking up a lot of space...and whose going to go back and read entry no.1037 anyway?

Some of the contributions are rather old.. and exactly when is Rudi Skacel going to sign.

SUGGESTION: (Mods) IF ... a contribution is "current " and accurate then it ought to come to pass within weeks . So why not dump the thread the last day of every month and start again from zero.

What's written in the new month will be accurate and more upto-date.
