Wondered if you had seen this.I suspect that this is a strong rumour.Clark has offered Roberts a new longer contract but on reduced terms to bring the club in line for new regs coming in '12/'13 season. We would be gutted to lose him.Quality player and £500k seems a steal.

What sort of player is he? Heard he doesn't have much pace whic is really what we are lacking at the moment so maybe wouldn't be quite what we need.

Correct. He isn't the speediest winger but he makes up for that by being able to get past people with his trickery and skill.Looks like we may be signing Danny Ward from Bolton today for around £500k so 2+2 !!!!!!.He can definitely supply the ammo for the likes of Lambert and chips in with goals as well.Don't want him to leave,he has been one of our best signings in the last 10 years.

It's like that famous team photo when one of the players on the front row has his willy hanging out.

Millwall, around 1969 IIRC. Harry Cripps?

You have an excellent memory for photo's of men with their willy's out.

I was at school in Sidcup at the time and Millwall were the 'local' team. It was a huge laugh at the time and for some perverse reason has stuck in my memory.

Trust me, it's not a memory I like to keep...

Once again, SaintsWeb has spoken. He's clearly not good enough, according to our experts.

(FWIW, I've raved about him for years and I suspect many of you will be adding your names to the "players who made you eat humble pie" thread after you realise how good a signing this is).

But can he play in the premier league and champions league, how was his record at international level, lest we forget vassell wasn't deemed good enough for us because Of his goal scoring record for England. We only want to be looking at players who can get us into the Champions league, where we belong

I second that notion.

Anything less than that calibre and we're showing a lack of ambition. It's not as if we don't have the money to spend, either - Cortese must have made millions since he started charging folk to pay for parking.

Saints are looking to strengthen, not just fill in places down the pecking order, so this looks more like unfounded speculation linking a player who wants to leave with a club planning to make a signing or two. Actual link seems negligible.

I have to say though, if he has scored 37 goals in 147 games for Huddersfield then that is a pretty decent strike rate for a midfielder / winger. 0.2 goals per game (according to soccerbase) over his career is not a bad return at all.

Main downside I can see is that he played for Ipswich (presumably in the CCC) and the goal return was nowhere near as good and he was offloaded fairly quickly to L1 so maybe one of those players that would be a decent average player in the CCC and a very good one in L1 so questionable as to whether he would be an "excellent" signing at our level or just an average one.

But, in reality, you can't score 0.2 goals in a game. If the average is less than 1 it doesn't really count. You can't round up part of a goal.

It's like, when we were on our winning run last season, the stats would say, "games since a win - 0" when we had won something like 8 in a row! Some of these stats aren't worth the paper they're written on.

Just in case forum poster forget...we DO have a player with all the required attributes already......His name is Lee Holmes/

If Lee Holmes gets fit and stays fit I think NA will give him a chance. He is a busy and skillful player with a left foot that can score, put crosses in and beat defenders with tricks and pace. He's got a low centre of gravity ability (well he should do at 5ft 8") and likes to run with the ball.....If he stays fit that is.

He can do Adam Lallana stuff and is in our squad already. No signing on fee no transfer fee no additional wages. He's virtually a new player for us this season if you think about it in that way- bit like Connolly.

I think the key word is if, we all know in our heart of hearts that he will miss fair chunks of the season with niggly injuries. He has done in his entire career and I can't see that changing, he's just prone to injuries and it's a real shame.

Lee Holmes is, with all due respect, a waste of a place in the squad. Even when fit he isn't that good.

Lee Holmes (when fit) is one of the best players outside the prem imho

The former may be a little harsh but much closer to the truth than the latter.

I remember when Steve Lomas had an erection.

LMAO I’m still scarred by the Panini sticker album photo (or maybe it was in ‘SHOOT’ – no pun intended) of Barry Venison with a woody clearly visible through the obscenely short Liverpool shorts…wrong but very funny. He was able to play on a football pitch at one time then, work shy Geordie t*sser!

I think that photo was more disturbing than the Vinnie Jones/Gasgoigne snap or the Beardsley b*llock shot…ouch!. One was pain, Venison was actually…No, I don’t want to know! LOL

Theres no doubt IMO that Lee Holmes was one of our best players in the first half of the dutch duo relegation season but when he got injured during that QPR game, he just hasnt been able to get fit for one reason or another. Its a shame because he is a brilliant talent but just cant keep the body fit and able and I feel that if he had stayed fit, Lallana would still be struggling as a CM rather than a LM.

I really don't recall him in the four games I've seen us play against them so can you tell me if he is better than N'Guessen or better than Holmes? As much detail as possible please.

Totally agree... but you try telling that to the 'experts' on here...
