Morgan Schneiderlin

I think Morgan's contract is up at the end of this coming season, hopefully we can get him on a longer one. I really think he is class and will get a bit more time on the ball this season plus better pitches. Was a class apart at times last season and was fantastic in the final game.

I know he lacks goals and assists but he really gets he team going and switches play as well as some of the good Prem passers. His defensive awareness has improved so much, he was making some great tackles and interceptions. Could be a big year for him.

Totally agree.

Promotion would all but guarantee he stays.....but if we don't get promoted (the likely outcome) would he stay?

I am saddened that we haven't got a chant for him; he deserves one, he's been here for quite a while.

He's seen all these JCLs like Guly and Barnard get chants but he remains chantless.

I've found the tune, let's see who can come up with the words.

Morgan Schneiderlin. Schneiderlin! Morgan Schneiderlin. Na na na na na na na na....Morgan Schneiderlin!

That's Conno's chant. Morgan deserves something special.

I'm convinced that a quality chant will persuade him to stay.

Lambert signed a new contract purely because he loves his own song.

I think he will have a huge part to play this season and will be better suited to this league than league 1, due to the time he will have on the ball. I don't really care that he doesn't score or provide assists, as IMO that's not what he is there for. He is a playmaker, he sits at the back of midfield working as the engine of the team, creating chances for other people to get forward. He will be key this season.

Connolly has a new one about him being back from the dead. He loves it.

Don't get me wrong, I rate Morgan - but the love in at the moment is completely unjustified! Hammond was FAR more of a factor in our promotion than Morgan.

1. Was he really a class apart from Lallana, Chamberlain, Lambert etc? And if so, the "at times" is the crux of this statement; he showed his class all too infrequently.

2. Saying he lacks goals and assists is understating it - he has one goal and I'm not sure he's even got an assist to his name! MLG??

Just looking to redress the Hammond vs. Schneiderlin balance!

This.. People often talk of Morgans technical ability but fail to highlight the number of times he goes missing leaving Hammond with a monster task on his hands. Both, however, make Richard Chaplow look like a school boy, albeit a bald one. He has lost his way in professional football and doesn't even merit a squad position at sfc imho.

earlier in the summer there was talk of him wanting out. The fact he hasn't signed a new contract yet is slightly worrying.

I think he's waiting to see what happens next season really,as far as I've heard we priced him out of a move he wouldn't have minded last summer by slapping a ridiculous price tag on him (seems to be what we do) then he got dropped in favour of Chaplow when he was on international duty. I think he really wants to stay at the club but whether he rates Adkins as a manager I just couldn't say.

If we start with a Cork/Hammond CM which I'm very much afraid we will ,then he'll probably want away even before the end of this transfer window. If that doesn't happen he'll probably want to stay as a potential free agent next summer so no long term contract in view until Adkins plans for him become apparent.

He definately assisted Barney at Hillsborough and there was more than one occassion a crossfield ball to Chambo lead to a goal.

Hammond was vital at the end of the season certainly, but Schneiderlin had more quality on the ball than any other central midfielder than I saw in L1 last season.

His link play with Lallana and Lambert especially is excellent.

Is that a good return for 3 years at the club?

The assist stat is not the be all and end all. What about the pass before the assist? Could that not have been key in the build up? Schneiderlin's job to sit just in front of the centre backs, win the ball and set up attacks in the early stages of a move. A job he does very well imo.

Are assists Morgans primary aim, in the position he plays? Should we also judge Fonte on assists?

Thankyou very much, I completely agree with you both. My point? Others on here are guilty of such narrow-mindedness with Hammond. It is wrong to just judge Morgan on assists, correct. But it is also wrong to just judge Hammond based on his play when he*/the team are in possession, which I believe a lot of people seem to do. Off the ball, he's awesome. Great break up play, forces opposition players into impossible positions, superb engine, and superb motivator - I'll never forget his reaction to us going 0-2 down to MK Dons at home; I doubt we'd have pulled it back had he not been there!

*For the record, I believe his ability with the ball at his feet is massively underrated as well – he’s got better vision that people give him credit for; picked out some quality passes last season! Not a bad goalscorer either..

Forgot about Deano's goals at Pboro, Carlisle etcle etc.

If someone was to ask me whether a flash new striker or new Morgan 4 year deal, Morgan all the way!

Nothing would give me more satisfaction.

Come on Nicola let's have some more of your magic!

I would prefer a flash new striker . Morgans a good technical player but he goes missing in games . Think the pairing of cork and chaplow will be first choice this season .

You can go on about how good his passing and link up play looks, but the facts paint a totally different picture. I had virtually given up on Schneiderlin until he put in about 7 mid season performances as defensive midfielder that were top notch, before getting injured. If he puts in those types of performances I really don't worry about his lack of assists or scoring, he showed in those games what a valuable asset he could be by not being petulant, positioning himself and reading the game well, finished off with some very decisive tackles (and his passing was good).

If you try and make a case for him based upon assists and goals you are in the Franny Benali club, but I would definitely want him if he can reproduce that defensive form in the Championship, that he showed for that limited period of time in League 1.

Morgan goes missing in crappy games on crappy pitches against crappy teams in crappy conditions. Against better opposition, he is a different man to the Morgan we see against crap teams who park 11-men behind the ball. That's why I think next season will suit him better.
