Scott Steedman quits as Head of Sales & Marketing...

Recommended Posts

I can't believe that there are 40+ posts arguing why the bloke left/was sacked/abducted by aliens or whatever. None of the contributors have got a clue what happened and why.

I'm convinced that this site must be populated by single agoraphobics who have zero hobbies or interests.

Hope that is the case but looks like he walked rather than being sacked. You would hope that with a fresh face the marketing would pic up. If not then maybe the marketing manager is not the problem?

I agree, maybe an offer of employment came in that was more of a challenge or floated his boat more than SFC does?

There doesn't always have to be chicanery and skullduggery behind someone leaving a job, as some may think.

To be honest egg, I don't think their would have been so many posts, had the second post not been so inflammatory and negative.

It really wasn't. Read it again, he is just saying what was said on the UI. He even says he doesn't nessasarily believe it.

Three guesses as to who the poster was on the UI speculating.

Way Season Ticket renewals are organized' date=' issue over car park charging when spending a grand at ticket office, maybe his skills lay in negotiating TV Deals etc rather than dealing with public[/quote']

He was head os sales and marketing not car park charging strategy!

A company employs somebody on the basis he has a decent cv and impressive interview style. For whatever reason, it doesn't work out. Either he wasn't as good as Cortese thought he would be or the job wasn't what Steedman thought it would be? It happens all the time!! The guy has gone and we move on. Nothing to see here!

OMG OMG OMG!!! JUst after we sign Jack Cork the feel good factor has well and truely gone now with someone from the office leaving the club. I cant believe this hammer blow to our promotion prospects when everything looked so rosey. FFS Cortese.

:lol::lol::lol:

This is the final straw for me after the car park debacle.

Hypo merely posted what he saw elsewhere.. That's not inflammatory.

Well who knows, perhaps the spotlight is turning from FIFA to EUFA now and there are some skeletons starting to appear from the closet?

One things for sure, the manner in which marketing has been conducted frankly has not matched what I would consider the same aspirations NC would have for the club. I thought it interesting (disappointing) for example that neither the BBC local news or ITV news covered Jack Corks signing at 6 o'clock the day he signed. What is the point of paying for SaintsTV if you can read the same interviews on the OS? Just a couple of examples and more are covered above by others.

Whatever the reasons, I am not getting too worked up about it - there are many, many more fish (urgh!) in the sea.

There you go, a propery conspiracy theory. Just what we need. Can it be just a coincidence that he decided to go on the very same day Murdoch arrived to personally clean up the NOTW mess?

Since the club has hardly any discernible PR or marketing policy at all - I suggest he may have become a little frustrated trying to implement one.

Or a little frustrated by Cortese calling him every day asking him why the club doesn't have any discernable PR or marketing policy at all?

Wasn't that his job though? To create a PR or marketing policy?

I can't see what else he would have been paid to do given his job title. Shame this didn't happen two months ago.

When you increase the prices for some of your most loyal and long serving customers by 70% and just put it in the small print and don't offer any explanation or express any regret that you have had to do this then it's not very good marketing is it?

Whereas by bothering to make a contribution like that, you must have the social life of an international rock star.

The club's marketing has been sh!t, no-one is making a big deal of it, just discussing it.

Yep. Now whether he left because he was bad at the job or because he was impeded in some way I don't know. Would be good to find out.

The last couple of jobs I left were because I was offered something more fun and better paid to boot.....people do that you see.

If 90% of them renew at the higher price, then actually it's fine.

I can confirm it was for family reasons, nothing more. Nothing sinister about it. So lets stop all the negativity about this now ;)

No way!!!!

I thought it would be something really profound that goes to the very core of morality.

Why should we trust you? I have no idea who you are or what (if any) links you have with the club. Prove that you are ITK - post something that only Markus would have known. If you can't, then you'll understand if I choose to think of you as just another bullsh*tter

And I thought it was for not completing the construction of Cortese's new headquarters in the depths of a dormant volcano on a remote Japanese island on time. I heard that at fridays management meeting he was told to leave the meeting, he went into the lift, the floor opened up and he plummeted into the pool of pirahna fish situated underneath Block 9.

My point is I suspect that he wasn't allowed to do it.

These policies were no different before he arrived and I predict they will be no different whoever they employ in the job in the future.

I don't think he was very good at his job - selling sponsorship rights for the UEFA champions league and sales and marketing for a championship club may be in the same universe but they are different worlds

Someone who understands Saints as a club - and has maybe worked in both B2C/B2B marketing would be far better than someone who has just taken sponsorship orders for UEFA

Just sayin'

The clue was in the wink. I was trying to show anyone can say anything and get people to believe it. I can 100% confirm I am NOT in the know nor have I ever been. I just get sick and tired of people worrying over ever little thing that happens at the club these days. I was trying to stop the spread of negativity of these rumours and conjecture. It seems some of our fans just can't stop seeing shadows were there are none. We can't seem to break free of the negativity that was around this club for the past 7 years or so before the take over. It seems ingrained into the fans.

Ok so the current set up aren't perfect but its a hell of a lot better than what came before it. It makes me laugh, we just had a good bit of news in Jack Cork signing, Well its great news to me, but what follows it? More rumours and conjecture about a possible falling out in the clubs ranks. It always seem to follow this pattern we have some good news then its followed by some crappy rumour that usually ends up having no truth to it at all, but it manages to do its job by unsettling and spliting the fan base. Who starts these rumours? , I do wonder and have come to the conclusion that its Pompey fans on a wind up.

Yes I was making a point! Sorry if the wink was too subtle for you. You seem very wound up about this I am not looking to argue with you or purposely wind you up. so I genuinely apologise that it offened you so much and that you felt it to be an immature prank. I don't post on this forum that often but I do get fed up with all the negative stories that get posted on here that do nothing but split the fan base. I hope you can accept my apology because I can't stand the in forum fighting and want no part in it. However I do feel you may have over reacted a little bit. At the end of the day I am a Saints fan who wants the best for our Club, I don't want to waste time arguing with other Saints fans. I cannot respond further as this is my 3 post of the day. So I can only hope you accept my apology and move on. Here is hoping for a great season ahead.

You're right mate, I over-reacted and you clearly weren't on a wind up. I'm sorry if I went overboard. I've had a bad day. I went shopping and only discovered when I got home that my pineapple is already rotten in the middle and I forgot my haddock at the check out (even though I paid it for it).

Anyway, let's just forget all about it and move on, supporting the saints to the premier! COYS!!

He left the club because the club has no ambition. He joined thinking he would be head of sales and marketing of an ambitious club but barely a year into the job it was apparent to him that the club had no ambition whatsoever. The lack of summer signings was the last straw so he decided to move on.

Maybe it's neither. Maybe he needed to move away for family reasons, or medical reason, or maybe he simply didn't like it here.
