saintscottofthenortham Posted 9 July, 2011 Share Posted 9 July, 2011 Apparently Scott Steedman has quit as Head of Sales & Marketing after just 1 year. Seems a little strange as there was a bit of dialogue from NC when he brought him in. Makes no odds to me, but may be of interest to some. For those who've been asking/care, Scott Steedman has left his job as head of sales & marketing at #saintsfc - wouldn't say his reason. An article when he was appointed; Steedman is currently the marketing and commercial domain leader for Team Marketing, the exclusive marketing agent for Uefa’s club football competitions based in Lucerne, Switzerland. At Uefa, he oversaw sales for all the major UEFA competitions and strategic counsel to the major sponsors such as Nike, Toyota, Banco Santander and Canon, plus the creation of pan-European marketing initiatives. He says:* “It is clear to me that Southampton Football Club has serious ambition to return the highest levels in football. I bring considerable international experience in sport and football marketing in particular. I am looking forward to my new role enormously. I am convinced this club can go a long way.” Cortese adds: “I am delighted to have been able to convince Scott to become part of our vision for the future, and know that he will be a great asset to the Club. We are intent on fulfilling our ambitions, and this is another indication of the importance we place on providing a top level of service and support for our corporate clients.”

Not saying I believe it but it's certainly possible. OK so how about a couple of speculative comments from a different angle. How many Corporate Boxes have we sold for the coming season? Compared to the 400mil deal that Man City just pulled in, our Corporate Sponsorhip deal is with whom? No idea how those relate, just that one person leaves and the first post is linking to negativity.

dubai_phil Posted 9 July, 2011 Share Posted 9 July, 2011 What negative press and PR coming from the club...? To be fair though, there is actually a great deal more to Corporate Communications (or Marcom) than simply being able to use Social Media and "Manage the Press". And it is fair to say that fans have made many comments that the Marketing is not that good at the moment.. Again I don't agree with all of that (and there is more as you know), but there has been negative stories in both the local and national media. It may appear to be anti cortese because of Nick being the admin but in reality, they allow all views to be aired largely without abuse (things have changed somewhat with stu aka Boris coming back.) it makes a refreshing change. Joensuu Posted 9 July, 2011 Share Posted 9 July, 2011 (edited) There are numerous reasons why a company and and employee part company. My company has had to terminate the contracts of people who had very impressive CVs, because they simple didn't perform. Let's face it, the marketing has been the most criticised part of the Saints over the past year or so. If you were Cortese, would you have been happy with the lack of, well, any obvious marketing whatsoever? What really annoys me, is how predictably negative certain posters choose to spin any news that comes from the club. I'm surprised that Hypo wasn't able to spin the signing of Cork into an anti Cortese rant. Seriously Hypo, what is your problem with the Saints? Tbf, the whole south coast club thing was ages ago now and i've not seen any negative press in the nationals for a good while. And how is getting a local business as sponsor a negative? And "agents" finding us difficult to deal with? I believe just one mentioned that on twitter and then quickly back tracked. You are so transparent, you would LOVE it if he left due to his job being "impossible". Maybe he just didn't like it, maybe he didn't like the area, maybe he was head hunted by someone else....
