Southampton a better city than Pompy

I have a friend that moved from Hertfordshire to Skatesmouth for a job as an Organist, every single day he moans about the state of the place and the scum that live there. I've never lived in either, but I've been to both, and hands down Southampton is the better city.

Portsmouth scares me. There's some plug ugly half breeds there. (i'm including my friend in that!)

Unbiased outsiders view..

Southampton's probably more 'pleasant' to live in - but slightly dull?

Pompey's rougher (especially the northern part of the city), but Southsea / Albert Road area is great and probably the best part of either city I would say

You've obviously never been to Shirley on a Saturday.

I've always liked going to Pompey. Went on a school trip to many of the Victorian forts, which was cool. Lot of stuff for history fans in general. Also, they have a permanent fun-fair. As a kid, I always thought Southampton came off poorer for not having that ( ok, we had the little thing up at the Sporty, but that barely counts )

I grew up in and around Southampton for nigh on 28 years. Didn't even visit Portsmouth until I was mid 20's. I've now however lived in Portsmouth for the last 3 years and some parts are nicer than Southampton, some parts are worse. I am staying in Portsmouth and looking to now buy a house around the Southsea area next year (with my g/f who is also a Soton girl) and we wouldn't stay if it wasn't nice.

It'll never change but Saints fans/Pompey fans will always be blinkered against their rivals cities, regardless of any facts, which is part of the football rivalry.
