Sevvy Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 If you could bring any ex saints player back from any time to play in the present team who would it be. I know most people will probably go for Le Tiss Myself i would go for Danny Wallace to watch him run down that wing was brilliant.
Panda Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Mike Channon to play alongside Rickie Lambert - awesome.
SuperSAINT Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Theo Walcott (Because I would love to see him & Chambo in the same side)
trousers Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Skacel (once we've signed him in the first place, obviously)
miserableoldgit Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Current player - Gareth Bale "Old" player - Le Tiss
Britttherainking Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 HAS to be Le Tissier in his prime.... would probably singlehandedly get us out this league.... and what I wouldn't give to see those types of quality passes, and those awesome goals from someone in a Saints shirt again.
SNSUN Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Current would be Theo, play him up front. From the past it'd be a centre back, Killer from his prime or Richards RIP.
Colinjb Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Pahars pre-injuries. Completely agree. Would love to see a fully fit Marian playing as a foil for Rickie. For a current active player...... Theo or Bale, pace to burn, just what we need.
The9 Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 I think I'd go for Bale as well, even as a 17-year old in a decent Championship side he had 6 months of being outstanding and affecting the entire game from left back, which basically shouldn't be possible at that level. If we got him now as he is now, he'd be incredible and the rest of the team would have about twice as much space. Him and Lallana would probably be better than even Bale and Skacel, and that was pretty impressive. Shearer would be my second choice, we haven't had another striker like that with that regular level of performance since I've been watching Saints. Beattie took a long time to get to Shearer's level and has been off it for about as long since.
saintoaks Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Stevie Williams and Steve Moran.. both very very good players to watch..loved those days !!
jwakley75 Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 To play in the current team, it would have to be Killer. Still feel the defence is our weak link at the moment, killer in his prime with Fonte would be an incredible pairing.

Still feel the defence is our weak link at the moment, killer in his prime with Fonte would be an incredible pairing. We did have a brilliant defence last year tbf, and it wasn't just the CB's - it's the whole team. I'd like to see a pacey CB signed to partner fonte in an Ideal world, but I'd be more nervous if I was a P'boro fan going into the championship with the same defence.

I'd like to see a pacey CB signed to partner fonte in an Ideal world, but I'd be more nervous if I was a P'boro fan going into the championship with the same defence. Their defence mostly sorted itself out after Ferguson went back there - with a few exceptions (against Saints was obviously one of them) they went from winning 4-3 to winning 3-0. Not really sure what they did, their 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 still left the defence exposed quite a bit, they just didn't leak as many - and they kept a clean sheet against Huddersfield in the PO Final too. Having said that, if we took them apart, a few other nPC teams probably could too. And CMS-less they may not be able to outscore the opposition any more if that does happen.
SuperSAINT Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Richards or Killer is EXACTLY the type of DC we need.
dubai_phil Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Ah the idea of MLT in his prime playing in the NpC, what fun he could have. But in the context of adding to our current side. how about Psycho as cover at Left Back? Maybe Shilts on the bench or would it be Niemi in his prime? Terry Paine at his best as cover for AOC? Mark Wright or Dave Watson as the CB cover? Or Ron Davies up front as cover for RL? Hmmm maybe I got that round the wrong way, perhaps anyone of those with the current occupant as the cover. Hmm that would be sweet
sidthesquid Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 John McGrath, Denis Hollywood & Brian O'Neil for the Pompey games
Weston Saint Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Alan Ball or Jimmy Case. That is what we are still missing in midfield, a general with guts, experience and quality
The9 Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 (edited) James Beattie in his prime Yikes. He was barely even the best player in that team... Edited 8 July, 2011 by The9
MongoNeil Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Theo Walcott (Because I would love to see him & Chambo in the same side) They still might yet, just not at Saints unfortunately.
lambertsrightleg Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Come on, MLT playing off Lambert with Lallana and Chamberlain out wide and Cork and Schneiderlin holding? Perfection. i think i just came a little bit
ericofarabia Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 John McGrath, Denis Hollywood & Brian O'Neil for the Pompey games On the terraces with us?
jjsaint Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Yikes. He was barely even the best player in that team... You mean the side that finished 8th in the Prem and got to the FA Cup final! Fantastic finisher, but I'll admit that the window in which he was excellent was rather brief (about 2-3 seasons).
VectisSaint Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Ivan Golac at RB, thats what we need. Bally in MF as well.

Fantastic finisher, but I'll admit that the window in which he was excellent was rather brief (about 2-3 seasons). Replace months for seasons and I'll agree with you - his number of England caps is the obvious stat that shows where he was on the radar to me. Hard worker, decent straight line runner, some great goals, but nothing special regarding agility and he couldn't beat people, really nothing special most of the time.
krissyboy31 Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Alan Ball or Jimmy Case. That is what we are still missing in midfield, a general with guts, experience and quality This. Our inability to replace Case properly started the downward spiral.
Right sider Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Alan Ball or Jimmy Case. That is what we are still missing in midfield, a general with guts, experience and quality Exactly my thoughts, maybe even David Armstrong
WRINKLY SAINT Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 John McGrath, Denis Hollywood & Brian O'Neil for the Pompey games Better have Dave Walker as back up!!!!
sussexsaint Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Steve Moran , just because I worshipped him as a kid
the stain Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Steve Williams or Ivan Golac Well he's already kind of back anyway as he was appointed in a coaching role recently.
HK_Phoey Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Well he's already kind of back anyway as he was appointed in a coaching role recently. Paul Williams was appointed in the coaching role. Steve Williams was a classy right/central midfield player that came through the youth system late seventies and early eighties was gutted when he went to the Arse. Did win the first of his five or six england caps with us though
