captainchris Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Let's see what he can do when the season starts. This is a different team than the one he guested in before. I welcome him, but we all need to keep a little bit of control of our emotions. It wasn't as if the PL clubs were lining up for him, and his performance at RB for the U21s was flat. On the other hand NA knows what he is buying. It's also good to see our first signing of the season! This is one of the most thought through accurate posts written.........Control your emotions. Yes this is a 'name' signing but Cork is not miles ahead of our existing midfielders.........Emotions are running a bit ahead of his ability here - steady as you go....
BILLY Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Excellent first signing of the Summer. If we try and keep OXO and sign one or two more I think we'll do alright.
Crazy Diamond Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Some of you may remember I quoted a source of mine who said a Championship club had 'secured his services'. I must hold my hands up and say I misquoted him, and he was referring to the bid that we had made - which we were informed a week ago was the only bid on the table. Sorry about that! Given the events of today and the past week I thought I better try and keep some credibility in this profession of mine!
SuperSAINT Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Brilliant signing for us. Really happy we've sorted it. Signing someone with undoubted quality at this level, with tons of experience for his age - What a midfield line-up we've got! Nice work Nigel + Nicola.
speed demon Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Shows what I ******* know, I was sure he wasn't coming. Good to be proven wrong though.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Why is it that some of you lot insist on slagging off the likes of Hammond now we've signed Cork? As NA repeatedly says, it's about the squad so there's no need to rubbish the players that remain. I think Cork will be a 1st choice player on the teamsheet - who will pair up with him? I think it will be Hammond rather than Schneiderlin perhaps as he offers experience. In fact, I think Chaplow could possibly provide the best complimentary play to Cork - Cork is more defensive...Chappers is more attack minded, but they both have box-to-box motors in them. Whatever, its going to be intriging to see how he fits in and make the midfield position his own. Good luck Jack - I hope you stay for the long journey and become a Saints legend.
Dellman Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 It's not either / or with one or another out, it's a squad for heaven's sake, they're all in it; it's just a stronger squad, allows for injuries, suspensions, loss of form and variety of tactics according to who we play, no need to write anyne out, it's a big bus
Jimmy_D Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Great that we've finally signed him Our midfield looks sorted now, if we manage to keep hold of Oxo for this season. Now... have Hampshire and Saints ever had players with the same surname at the same time before?
welshsaint92 Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Delighted it is finally done and dusted.Cork has the potential to be a legend at the club .

saintedwill Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 really pleased he's signed, but how shiny is NA's face?!
tedmaul Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Only just heard. Really good signing IMO. He's progressed, as he should do, from when he was here last. And ran the midfield for Burnley last season. Heard so many good things about him. Top signing.
ericofarabia Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Bit disappointed by this one. I would of preferred a 'marquee' signing. Not quite a marquee ut does show in-Tent
Saint Without a Halo Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Not quite a marquee ut does show in-Tent Lol
JustMike Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 One Burnley fan in particular is upset, infact you could say he is "disgusting".... "minibeast says July 7, 2011 8:31pm I am a burnley fan and i am disgusting. Burnley are a massivley bigger club than southampton and burnley offer him everything he needs. some good players guaranteed footy. everything. and anyway, southampton were in league1 about 2 months ago and i hope some time he'll come to his senses and change his mind. He only got where he i by playing for Burnley. he played in the premier league and had an amazing season last year but hopefully we can get another good midfielder. he fitted into the squad pefectly and all i can say is hes wrong. come back jack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glasgow_Saint Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Despite how arrogant our fans are; some clubs still don't seem to know we are RICH!!!!
Dig Dig Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Despite how arrogant our fans are; some clubs still don't seem to know we are RICH!!!! Agree, we all need to be more arrogant so everyone knows that we are stinking rich and are the best side to play for outside of the top 4
West End Saint Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Good signing very happy he can play midfield centre back & right back so gives us options him & Morgan could make a very good centre midfield good work thats started the transfer ball rolling now a centre back striker with some pace & a tricky pacey winger please
FloridaMarlin Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Great that we've finally signed him Our midfield looks sorted now, if we manage to keep hold of Oxo for this season. Now... have Hampshire and Saints ever had players with the same surname at the same time before? Off the top of my head, Ian Turner and David Turner. Ian, Saints 1976 Cup Final keeper of course, and David, aka 'Noddy', who was part of Hampshire's 1973 Championship winning side. Let's hope that's an omen. Cork - Dominic Cork, captain of Hampshire's T20 winning team, Jack - part of - (insert your own punchline here). I'm sure there are more Saints/Hampshire players at the same time with the same surname.

paris Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Happy with that ....what was that re ambition and no money......
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 I thought he showed real promise as a young defender during his 1st stint here (under very differcult circumstances) and it will be interesting to see how he's developed in the meantime. Nevertheless, I'll risk a £1 and bet this could be a good signing.

NickG Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Cork, 22 years, 0 conference appearances, 0 league 2 appearances, 7 league 1 appearances, 137 championship appearances, 11 premiership appearances, 14 Eng U19 - Capt, 13 Eng U21 wiki info tho!
SuperSAINT Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Any idea what the fee was? Probably around the 1m mark, I reckon.

I watched the Friends Provident Final at Lords when Daren Powell was bowling for Hampshire in 2007 when we had Darren Powell on the books at SFC
ghq Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Henry Horton Saints player and Henry Horton Hants cricketer.
Lets B Avenue Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Graham Baker and PJ Bakker. I'll get my coat as its started raining again.
sidthesquid Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 (edited) Probably around the 1m mark, I reckon. £750000 has been reported in various locations, which makes him a bloody bargain. Same as Varney to Skates. Edited 8 July, 2011 by sidthesquid forgot to shift
Matthew Le God Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 It was more than £750k. http://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/page/LatestHeadlines/0,,10413~2388780,00.html Burnley had a seven figure bid turned down, they announced today. Plus "personal terms, which would have been considerably out of line with the club's rigid pay structure".

Plus "personal terms, which would have been considerably out of line with the club's rigid pay structure". I reckon it's probably over £1m initially, rising to around £3m on promotion/appearances/international games etc. It sounds like we set our stool out nice and early though and put a bid down that we knew wouldn't have been easily matched.

I suspect Burnley were just stooling for time as well.
saint_stevo Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 I expect Cork saw the pre-season no shinpad SHIN-on-SHIN tackles at Burnley and winced!

Hodgey Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Interesting look to our midfield next season - Lallana, Schneiderlin, Cork. Am I wrong in thinking that all 3 played together the year we went down so should already have some kind of experience on how each other play....
RedWillie Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 seems like a nice boy....let me think Southampton = 1st rate stadium and facilities, lots of sunshine, sea, boats, New Forest, 1 hour from London.....or Burnley, well?
Cestrian Saint Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 I think he's exactly what we need. The missing link in the midfield. Just need a proven goalscorer at this level - Someone like Harewood, and another CB and I think we'll be sorted.

Am I wrong in thinking that all 3 played together the year we went down so should already have some kind of experience on how each other play.... You are right. Brilliantly the first match where all 3 played 90 minutes was our appalling thrashing 4-1 at QPR when Lancashire got sent off for nothing much in the first half. So they can share stories at boot camp... They also all started our capitulation against Swansea at the Liberty which was one of the most one-sided matches in history and how we only lost 3-0 I have no idea. Pekhart came on for Schneiderlin after about about an hour of that. On the bright side, they're all better players now. Well, Lallana definitely is, anyway.
dannysfc Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 I along with many fans on here would like to extend my warm welcome to you Jack Cork and I hope you have an Amazing Season and help Saints get promoted back to the Premiership whether it be the season coming or next season Where We Belong! Good Luck Mate! COYR!!!
