You keep thinking that, but Murdoch KNOWS differently and that is why he has built up his empire so succesfully - he is in tune with the public mood.

That said maybe he's losing that instinct a bit by keeping the ginger bint on.

BTW is she a real ginger? I'm sure I saw brown roots.

Oh yes he really is on the ball is Murdoch. Remind me exactly how much he lost by buying Myspace?

Anyway his main ability appears to be to see which way the ball is rolling, jump on the bandwagon showing no loyalty to who he may have supported before and then claim he was solely responsible for them winning.

I think the term you're looking for is "a drop in the ocean" when put alongside his other dealings.

CNN reported that Myspace sold for $35 million, and noted that it was "far less than the $580 million News Corp. paid for Myspace in 2005."[65]

So over half a billion dollars is a drop in the ocean???

What ********. Or do you mean he could not use myspace to pervert normal democratic governments so it would have been of little use to his agenda?

Those gloating abiut the innocent and talented NOTW journos losing their jobs because they print the unemployed get free hiuses and £50k in benefits.... When did the NOTW ever say that or anything close to that?

Your confusing the NOTW with the Mail/ Exp (who to be fair always source and interview the claims), but then you probably don't read it but still have an opinion on it eh? Personally I love the fact it will sell 4.5m copies today (4.1m more than the Observer today and 4m more than the guardian tomorrow).

This proves how thick people are in this country. If you're conservative in your views then why not read The Times or the The Telegraph? Newspapers with a reading age of TEN YEARS OLD such as The Sun and NOTW (which is thankfully off the shelves as of tomorrow) should be curtailed.

Today heralds the second nail in the coffin of "Operation Dumbing Down" of British society: the first being the axing of Big Brother. As soon as we get rid of The Sun/The Mirror type newspapers and TV shows such as X Factor this country will be much better off.

They could just read the Mr. Men books; they're about the same reading age.

If you were a Mr Men character who would you be and why?

I'm thinking Mr Perfect.

That is rather rich isn't it Stanley?

I simply want this country to stop aspiring to be what The Sun/Now On The Welfare etc proclaim to be desirable in their rags. Adults shoud not be reading text with a reading age of TEN! It's not even secondary school level for christ sake. Thick paper for a thick readership.

I think you'll find I won the argument. You called for totalitarian control of the press. You want freedom of expression curtailed (unless of course it's in tune with your beliefs). I pointed this out and it is a perfect example Liberal Elitism. People like you like to come across all democratic, but every so often you forget yourselves.

And if there is any doubt that I won the argument the fact you bit speaks volumes.

dune, you are very good for the left wing. I've shown your posts to some of my right wing chums and they are embarrassed by you. Please don't take this post as a reason to stop, though. You are an excellent servant for the Liberal Elite cause.

I'll have you know i'm one of the most serious highbrow posters on here!

My biggest concern with the passing of the NOWT to be replaced by The Sun on Sunday is that the mondays edition of The Sun (great for footie write ups) will be a carbon copy of Sundays edition.

The passing of the NOWT is a real loss and I only hope that a new brand is launched separate from the Sun.

The fuddy duddy Guardian reader types can all gloat but what cannot be disputed is that both papers we No. 1 when it came to sales. Both papers delivered what people wanted.

What is this News Of World The?

Wanting to improve literacy rates does not equal totalitarian control.

We already have porn mags and celebrity gossip mags. We don't need The Sun which uses these elements to lure readership and then feed their prejudices and ignorance to win votes for Murdoch's favoured party of the time.

The final NOTW headline should have read: "Sorry and goodbye" - they couldnt even bow out gracefully.

Sorry but your factually incorrect there. The News of the World is read by 2.5m ABC1's, more than any other paper except the Mail on Sunday. It is read by more ABC1's than the times, independent, guardian and express combined.

Before you make sweeping statements about people you know nothing about, that read a newspaper you clearly know nothing about, I suggest you do some research.

Oh, and I also read the times, nothing wrong with 2 papers, times great for world news and opinion but nothing touches the sun/ NOTW for sport - maybe the game (times Monday football supp) but for championship/ L1 coverage no one touches sun/ notw. Not that you know as you clearly don't read them - poor you.

I bet your gutted every shop as of 1pm in west end/ hedge end has sold out of NOTW's but still has stacks of observers/ independents left! British public are boycotting the boycott, clearly a massive Market for a sun on Sunday - can't wait!

Do you agree with homophobe thorpe that the news of the world is read by stupid people or do you reluctantly bow to the facts provided by the independent national readership survey's monthly demographic results?

I don't care but I expect Milly Dowler's family aren't exactly happy today.

Still you'll be happy so long as your bankers and media buddies are wooing you with fine champagne made off the suffering of dead soldier's families.

I think, and hope, the truth will come out soon. I still believe that many journalists have integrity and aren't total cvnts. I approve of investigative journalism which holds people in power to account.

I think Piers Morgan is slimey scum (although he at least he resigned when shown to be wrong)

So ABC1's are stupid people are they? Or is it the typical "liberal" view of "anyone that eats different food, reads a different newspaper, does a certain job, votes for a certain party that I do t like do so because theyre thick". I've noticed a large bitterness/ nastyness from "liberals" recently?

Actually suffering from a severe hangover brought on by a night if grey goose and bolly paid for by bankers and Murdoch at ken roof gardens last night, oh well...

I think the hacking of millys phone was disgusting, as for the soldiers - hey I'm not in the armed forces, maybe someone that is can confirm this or put me in my place - but I think news ints papers have done more to support/ promote the hard job and lack of funding that our forces put up with all over the world, than any other media group?

Yeah, so you'd think they would show a little bit more f***ing respect to those who laid down their lives for their country. Just because they have championed the cause of the military in the past doesn't in any way justify the depths they plumbed to in this instance.

sorry has someone who is liberal and independant for once i agree with dune i read the quality papers and the sun,now which has the highest ab1 readership in the uk along with the mirror titles and enjoy all types of viewsetc, i personally find the mail and sunday mail offensive and its appeal to the angry people who feel left behind and yearn for the 19 30s and 1950,s ideas of Briton and hate anything progressive and modern in society.

So saying what a great job they are doing with meagre resources justifies hacking into the voicemail of those so recently bereaved?

That is a totally and utterly pathetic position to take. Parents, wives, kin of the fallen should be protected come what may, they should not have their grief invaded just to sell newspapers.

Simple, undeniable fact is that for a number of years they were our of control that the paper, as it is today, has been sacrificed to save Brooks and NI bid for Sky.

They regularly show their true colours. They are all for freedom and democracy so long as it's on their terms. Socialism as an ideology is akin to communism - a nanny state ideology whose subscribers think they are superior and it's their moral right to dictate to others. This is why at the heart of Socialism is high taxation. Taking money from people because they do not believe in lesser mortals having the right to determine their own destiny. Capitalism on the other hand is all about freedom and letting people live their own lives as they choose.

1/2 of my team read the NOTW & Sun for the sport and they are all ABC1s

Personally I think The Times sports coverage knocks the spots of them.

However, Thorpe is correct, the language of both the NOTW and The Sun is that expected of a 10yo. The Star readership ability is 8yo

Firstly with your visionary censorship plans (who decides what we can read and watch? You and Polly Toynbee) and secondly by suggesting NOTW readers are all stupid. Do you really think that an interest in which celebrity is screwing who is limited to certain lower end demographics?

The NOTW overstepped the mark but Captain Cash improved a lot of people's lives.

Ummm. No, it's not.
