Fergie Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Leicester City...Is Sheik Monsour their secret chairman or something!! Incrediable the amount of money they are spending. I feel we should be in for this player, and i think he'd be very interested in coming back. The possibility of playing with his brother again (i said possibly), back to a city he knows and grew up in, playing for the saints again, big plans etc etc and would learn off Fonte and Jaidi. BBC reports the fee being £5m+ but i think he is worth that, whether we have that money to spend i don't know but i am going to be very jealous of Leicester if they get him. I know for sure if i had the money to spend on Mills i would be calling Reading right now and stealing him from under Leicesters noses. Th prospect of Mills and Fonte at the back excites me...Feel he is exactly the kind of centre half we should be looking at to partner Jose.
S-Clarke Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 There is no chance anyone other than Leicester City will spend £5m on him, even Wolves bulked at the asking price. He's a good player and I'm ****ed off that we aren't enjoying him, but I wouldn't spend £5m on him even though I think we need a CB. Leicester aren't exactly living within their means, they're going **** or bust. I don't think we need to do that.
SaintAndy14 Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 £5m is very pricey and he has already left us once - paying a club record transfer fee to get him back wouldn't be good business really. Let's look elsewhere, and for a bargin!
S-Clarke Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 I reckon you could get a player of equal ability, and maybe even slightly better, based in Europe for around 1-2m. Easy. You just need to widen the nets scouting wise (which is what we're doing).
kpturner Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 even Wolves bulked at the asking price. What?! They all started overeating or something?
gaz Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 £5m for an NPC player? Who on earth would think thats good business (apart from the selling club)?
Matthew Le God Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 £5m for an NPC player? Who on earth would think thats good business (apart from the selling club)? Why does it mater that it is a NPC club? The quality of the player is what matters (I'm not saying Matt Mills is worth £5m btw). Bale and Walcott were both Championship players when they were sold for over £5m each. Were they not worth it? If anything, they went far too cheaply.
Big_Bald_Si Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 I've a lot of mates who are Reading fans, and they all seem to think he's a bit of a liability at times, and lacks pace. More to the point, they're shocked (and delighted) they're getting £5 million for him! No way would I want us to spend this amount of money on any player whilst we're in the championship, especially Matt Mills!
View From The Top Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 £5m for Mills in the NPC is way, way, way too much.
Dutch-Saint Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Agree that it's FAR to much money for Mills.....secondly that Aaron Martin WILL be better than Mills FACT !!

They're saying that because he is likely to leave .... you know what football fans are like.
MOSaint Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 This is the guy paying for it all http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vichai_Raksriaksorn Considering he has a £110m fortune, how much money would he really be willing to spend trying to buy his way out of this league and staying afloat in the Prem? No matter what the result, it could all turn sour for them as the owner doesn't appear to be doing anything to help the club become self sufficient.
Saint Garrett Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Probably something to do with that thing where clubs have to be able to run to break even from next year.
NickG Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 They're saying that because he is likely to leave .... you know what football fans are like. we reckon Ox-C worth £20m!
Ewell Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Despite thinking 5 million is way too much for Mills I am amused that some are using the words ‘5 million is too much for a Championship player’. They are probably the same people who think 10 million is not enough for a league 1 player, go figure!

Yep thats the point I was trying to make. The destination of the player determines the level, and I think there isn't a player of Championship-level ability worth £5m.
Turkish Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 But but but, we were told the other day they aren't spending and are only signing players that weren't good enough for us? I dont understand.....
Big_Bald_Si Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Nope, they've been saying it pretty much since he joined them!
Tamesaint Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 But but but, we were told the other day they aren't spending and are only signing players that weren't good enough for us? I dont understand..... What like CMS who they were definitely going to buy?

Leicester aren't exactly living within their means, they're going **** or bust. I don't think we need to do that. This is absolutely spot on. The problem is, in my opinion, that people see football clubs as being financially untouchable, and so they expect them to keep spending and spending more and more. In the current climate though £5m is actually a bit of a snip, although I appreciate that sounds utterly deranged!
Turkish Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 What like CMS who they were definitely going to buy? I may have got that wrong but the Peterborough chairman and manager and Leicester manager were all quoted as saying they expected him to sign, it looked like a done deal. I apologise for getting this one thing wrong and over estimating CMS's ambition, i wish i could always right, like yourself. St Ledger, Danns, Nugent, now Mills, all players most on here wanted. Mills will take their spending to near on £7m, not bad for a club that isn't spending.

He would be sure to prefer West Ham , Leicester or Burnley ahead of us. I have never understood why you are so down on the team that you support. Perhapsin future you will think twice before posting your negative, belittling sarcastic comments.

I think you'll find I didn't say that at all. take your head out of the clouds and the chip off your shoulder. I actually said if he had other options thee is every chance we might not even be his second choice. Unlike the clueless majority on here I don't think players are falling over the selves to join us, in this division there are other and in some cases better options. I think jack cork is a quality signing but it still doesn't make us the most attractive team outside of the premier leagues top 4 that some think we are.
