I'm not sure a £50,000pw ex-CL winning international midfielder would fancy skanking around in the Championship. And we probably wouldn't be able to afford him, either.

He is without a club and must be pretty desperate to broadcast himself all over You Tube. Not many will take the gamble especially this early in pre season. I do not think he is as out of reach as people think. Yeah he would cost a fair bit and would be a big gamble but I think we could get him on a 15k a week deal with heavy incentives for appearances etc

Nothing ventured, nothing gained and it would be a Statement of intent from our Board even if we offered him a trial or the opportunity to train and get fit with us and you never know like all of us he may well just fall in love with the place.

I'd love it to happen and I'd have loved us to take the Leicester route with a couple of marquee, big-name signings and 2-3 more established NPC competent players ,but it appears we're holding our cards very close to our chest... and besides, I'm not sure NA is one of marquee signings, which is a shame in some respects as they can sometimes galvanise a club (not an Edgar Davids-style type signing, though!)

Besides, the chances of anyone falling in love with rubbish-strewn, chavtastic, dull, permanently grey surroundings of Southampton have to be remote.

Unless I see him doing that with a copy of today's newspaper I won't believe that is current footage.

Oh, and even if it is, it only proves he is fit for just under 20 seconds which isn't really a lot...although more than he has been in recent years!

clearly you don't have a clue what components of fitness and training methods you need for football haha, rarely you'll run at full intensity without a break for longer than 20 - 30 seconds! but fair point he would be a very good signing!

Good player, good attitude, too good for us! Plus wouldn't like us to blow big wages on one player who may limp off at any stage during pre-season friendlies. Just signed him on Football Manager though in the Prem and he's stayed fit all season, getting back into the England squad!

The poor bloke is crocked. I would be stunned if he recovered but if he did he would be far too good for our level.

I think the best he will get is a pay as you play or a one year contract at best, I would take a punt on either of those if his wage demands were in the right ball park.

Idid wonder though if Bowyer might be worth a punt

Now that's a different matter. Someone like Bowyer would be the kind of experienced nasty b@stard that we need this season.

Some of our better sides over the years always had a player who was not scared to put his foot in.

He's far too good for this level and I wouldn't take him anyway because of his injury record. No doubt some Premier League manager will ignore 3 years spent in the physio room and take a punt, but it wont be us.

I think he would be a great addition to the squad, since his "problems" he has knuckled down worked hard and not been in trouble since (I think) He is still in my opinion one of the best midfielders at timing runs into the box

We are not a chuffin retirement home for knackered & crocked players. We have had our days of buying players that have needed gluing back together in the hope that they might prove to be bargain.

saw this earlier actully thought the same, but cant see us ever being able to sign him his wages would be stupid..

i reckon he will sign for west ham or brum if he was to drop to the championship, but he is most likely to see him at some poor prem team like Wolves Wigan etc and build himself back into the England squad, good player on his day, better then Carrick and Barry IMO.

Surely Owen Hargreaves is never going to play more than 5 more matches in competitive football, spaced out over the next 10 years or so ?

I have more faith in Stevo's knee than Hargreaves playing again.
