Turkish Posted 7 July, 2011 Share Posted 7 July, 2011 Todays Echo has a report on someone who has returned their season ticket because they had to pay a £1 to park. The article has your token miserable looking face to show how unhappy he his. A truly pathetic reaction in the slim hope that he hopes to get something out of the club by moaning. What a complete and utter mug. Absolutely pathetic.
yellow&blue Posted 7 July, 2011 Share Posted 7 July, 2011 Bit OTT....oh my god.....having to pay an extra ONE POUND to park so he could renew his season ticket!!! So he is returning it on the basis he had to pay an extra 4p per game....... Get a life FFS - over dramatising Esho does it again........... Turkish Posted 7 July, 2011 Share Posted 7 July, 2011 It's more evidence of what a fantastic chairman super Nicky is though. This is clearly a subtle way to weed out the patheti, whinging elements of our fan base who are more interested in moaning that there aren't enough paper towels in the toliets to last the game than actually enjoying the football. Great work Nicky. A fantastic business and psychological move.
saintrich Posted 7 July, 2011 Share Posted 7 July, 2011 Good for him. It's an insult and it's not the amount - it's the principle. It's not the principle at all - it's to stop people parking there all day, like some were doing before. It is clearly sign-posted upon entrance to the car park that you have to pay, so if the man didn't like the idea of paying he should have gone elsewhere instead of buying his season ticket, wasting time and then asking for a refund. Incidentally blocking people in the car park, who wanted to leave.

Incidentally blocking people in the car park, who wanted to leave. This gives the impression that the stadium car park was full of people parking and walking into town. It never was. Whenever I've collected tickets in the past there were a handfull of cars vaguely matching the number of people in the queue in front of me. There are plenty of places to park free closer to town than SMS. This is just another ploy to empty more cash out of loyal supporters pockets and unfortunately most of our uber fans are prepared to drop their trousers every time the club comes up with another nice little earner (surcharge to deter you from booking online or on the phone, slightly cheaper surcharge to prevent you buying on the day, car park charge if you want to buy at any other time). Charging fans £10 to park their cars while suppotrting Saints on the official travel club coaches is disgraceful. I'm sure everybody who is supporting the charges would be very happy if Tesco starts charging for parking while you shop.
The9 Posted 7 July, 2011 Share Posted 7 July, 2011 Can't say I'd ever noticed any problem with people parking at the ground all day any of the times I'd driven down there to pick up tickets (which is a lot more often now there's a Ticket surcharge). Charlie Wayman Posted 7 July, 2011 Share Posted 7 July, 2011 Just been down to renew my season ticket and get clobbered for parking . When did the club reduce free parking from 30 minutes to only 15 minutes. I must have missed the anouncement. You were warned about this on Tuesday after my visit to but ST. You get 30 mins free so you should have gone later when queue had reduced a bit. Anyway as you had just spent 400 quid +/_ what's a £1 to moan about? saintrich Posted 7 July, 2011 Share Posted 7 July, 2011 But people are parking in the car park all day to go to an away game and aren't shopping/buying club products. According to one of the ladies that runs the travel coach, the club makes no money from the coaches. I'm pretty sure if 100+ people started parking in the tesco car park every other week for over 12 hours without going into tesco then they'd do something about it. They give 15 mins free so that fans can collect/buy tickets for free, it's just a bit unfortunate that during season ticket renewal it can take more than 15 mins to queue - in which case the club could think about giving an hour free parking during the season ticket period. This gives the impression that the stadium car park was full of people parking and walking into town. It never was. Whenever I've collected tickets in the past there were a handfull of cars vaguely matching the number of people in the queue in front of me. The9 Posted 7 July, 2011 Share Posted 7 July, 2011 (edited) And to all the people saying "it's a business decision", well yes it is, it's a business decision which you would hope had weighed up the likelihood of fans being (further) inconvenienced when wanting to buy tickets against the likelihood that they just won't bother any more, because they're fed up of the club taking liberties and adding surcharges to everything. ST = £480 Plus we won't post it so you now have to pick it up, so add some petrol Plus if there's a queue, you might have to pay for parking Oh, and did we mention the Ticket Office is only open at the times you're working ? Plus as of tomorrow we're going to insist you stand on one leg for 30 minutes before any tickets are confirmed. But you can't pick them up now, you have to wait a month - and if you don't pick them up, we'll sell them to someone else. And an ST only allows you the theoretical right to enter the ground, we're putting a row of armed security in front of the turnstiles on match days. But you can pay £8 for a VIP pass and then you only have to face the dogs... Edited 7 July, 2011 by The9 typo

Just to clarify my thoughts , I have no problem paying for parking at St Marys. Would I have paid £1 if I had known the free waiting time had been reduced to 15 minutes , well yes I would. However , I would of appreciated some form of advance warning informing me that parking charges had been changed. The first I heard of it was some fella (also unawares of the new tarrif) coming over to the ticket machine in the Northam car park leaving his car at the barrier blocking (temporarily) everybody elses exit. There was NO new signage of the revised charges , merely the original 1/2 hour crudely scratched out and the new 1/4 overwritten on top of the Tarrif board on the Northam wall , next to the machine. All I am saying is that I would of appreciated the club making it clear beforehand. Everybody clear. Good. Now can somebody please answer my original question ? But they are hard core supporters (sorry customeres) spending their time supporting the club and have bought club products in the form of a seat on the coach. If the club can't make money from running the coaches they are doing something wrong and persuading people to use other coach companies where they don't have to pay the parking fees isn't going to help. Especially as some of those clearing off for the day were clearing off to work at St Mary's Stadium. If I still had room on my front lawn to park another 500 cars I might be a little irked but don't think I would spend £125K getting a ticketing system fitted. How would you feel if you got home tonight and someone had dumped their car on your front lawn and cleared off for the day? this is irrelevant. 30 minutes free parking and/or allowing those that have queued for a long period to buy tickets to get out for nothing would still enable genuine fans to not be fleeced and stop people leaving their car there all day. As has been posted above Lowe would have been strung up for treating fans like this. Having the word `Club' as part of the company name must breach the trade descriptions act surely? The9 Posted 7 July, 2011 Share Posted 7 July, 2011 Yes it's private property, they are within their rights to clamp. How would you feel if you got home tonight and someone had dumped their car on your front lawn and cleared off for the day? Actually it happened yesterday. Genuinely. Although it was my allocated parking space and not the lawn. In response I parked my car in someone else's space, thus shifting the problem elsewhere. But what's that got to do with anything anyway ? Is this about property ownership, preventative measures against a negligible number of free parkers, or as you've claimed already, the club "being a business" and making a profit ? Personally I think it's about the club failing to provide a service to fans to enable them to spend money on the club as they see fit, rather than as the club sees fit. Being a business often means taking care of your customers so you don't lose them, something Saints are evidently getting more and more careless about. For one thing, dropping the "free" time from 30 to 15 minutes cannot possibly be construed as a move to prevent all day parkers, because they're eradicated by the original restriction. Changing it to 15 minutes just catches out those making short visits to the club. But it's a stupid move : If I'm in the club shop considering whether to get a name and number printed on a shirt at £12 a pop, but there's a queue, and I've got 5 minutes before my free parking expires, am I going to get the shirt without the printing, or am I going to pay the extra parking ? I suspect I'm going to forego the shirt printing and save the additional cost. So the club's lost £12 they'd have probably got from me otherwise, and it's going to take 12 people parking in that car park for "too long" to get it back by other means. I might also decide that my shirt looks better with a plain back compared to the name and number, so they lose out on the future revenue as well. Compare that to free parking - I'll pitch up and amble around the shop, no time pressure, just have a look to see what there is and maybe pick up a few extra things. Every little squeezing of the fans purse like this just ends up ****ing fans off and in the end when difficult decisions have to be made about time and spending it will be that little bit easier to let their support (and I mean paying for tickets) waver. Pedro Posted 7 July, 2011 Share Posted 7 July, 2011 Not trawled all through the replies but can't the club give a token at the till, if I go to the megastore and browse around, spend £100 and I wouldn't expect to pay for the privelege, why should we be expected to pay because the queues are too long. My small business would jump through hoops to get customers through the door at these tough times. Shame on you saints.
pezza Posted 7 July, 2011 Share Posted 7 July, 2011 i was in the queue behind him and it was quite funny to see. I have to say when you have spent that kind of money the least they could do is validate your ticket to waive the fee. I know they do this for corporate guests they also do it when you go there to take exams that are run by various bodies. Seems to me that fans are the easy target, but I paid my pound and don't really care was just a bit surprised.
