i guess the question is - is there clear signage at the car park making clear the pricing and the times?

Posted

Well, tbf, he wasn't exactly asking for free parking just when it changed from 30 to 15 minutes. It's always been free until recently and maybe if your buying one of their products for around £500 maybe a free car park pass whilst doing so wouldn't be too much to ask. You get 30 minutes free in West Quay btw.

Just been down to renew my season ticket and get clobbered for parking . When did the club reduce free parking from 30 minutes to only 15 minutes. I must have missed the anouncement.

:?:

My Dad renewed yesterday, he was there for 45 minutes & didn't get charged. He assumed the charges had been suspended during the renewal period. Some hopes.

Which car park ? Northam or Chapel ? I've been in the Northam buying tickets for longer than 15 minutes before and still got out for nowt...

Also when I went down to see the FA Cup (Chapel Car Park for the Megastore) I was there for nearly an hour and got away for free but my mate who had arrived 5 minutes earlier than me had to pay. Seemed a little harsh.

Who gives a S**T if you have to pay to park, like someone early said most places in town require you to pay. Is it me or is the website just full of people who want to moan about every little aspect of Southampton FC. Just pay the £1.50 or however much it is and get on with your life!

Posted

The thing is, if the club are making people go to the ticket office to get their tickets, and not offer the chance on line to have them sent (although you could email ticket office to get them to do so) then no way should you be charged to park there!! You are not buying goods, but giving the club money in good faith, that the club will give you the goods by results on the pitch. (we hope)

As someone else mentioned the OP wasn't moaning about having to pay, but that the free period appears to have been reduced. Do keep up.

Either way its another on a long list of pointless moans about Southampton FC. This whole forum is let down by people moaning about pointless rubbish like this!

Had a strange one myself, just been down too. Definitely there longer than 15.. Big queue.. Came to pay and just spat my ticket back out without asking for cash. 465 quid was enough to part with in a day!

It was sign posted as 30mins free last saturday when I went to renew and I didn't get charged was at SMS about 35 mins looking at the above posts luck seems to play apart it would seem.........

Posted

Brought my tickets last Friday and it was free for 30 mins, a quid for an hour. Doubt they would change it that quick without any notice.

Anyway surely the parking fee goes into the club, so whats the problem.

Mrs.H was in Hospital for 12 days recently and irrespective of the time actually 'parked' the charge was £2. Thankfully the charge lasts for 24 hours and you can go in and out as many times as you wish for the £2. Having to pay for parking these days is the norm.Now... when I was a nipper look, we couldn't afford a car see, so we walked to the Ferry and then to the Dell. How times change eh?

So how much are you willing to pay for the privilege of collecting something you've purchased for £515 online. Perhaps an additional 10% as a tip, after all it's going to club.

I buy stuff on the internet for collect in store at places such as PC World and Argos and they don't rip me off with parking charges on top.

If you are playing for your season ticket using the installment plan do you get to spread the payments monthly?

On another note, has anyone noticed the little message the barrier gives you when you leave the car park? AS you put your ticket it in and the barrier raises it wishes you to "have a nice day" What a wonderful gesture from Super Nicky, he truely cares about each and everyone of us, we never had that sort of thing under Lowe and i cant think of any other car park which sends you a personal message on your way out.

Posted

Been down myself today to get my ST's and a gent in a van couldn't get through the barrier as he hadn't paid so promptly left his van blocking everyone else in whilst he asked for a refund on his ST........saying that I didn't have to pay and i thought I was longer than 15mins so who knows!!

Personally i think the price increase is great news, it shows we are ambitious and that we are using all reveune streams available to increase our profitability, which willl ultimately help us attract better players.

In fairness say 5k people attend the stadium to renew, the ticket office take their time doing the transactions that's an extra £5k income, that could pay for a Ricky Lambert for 2 days, cant be complained about really ;)

This. Very much. Over the course of a year it only needs 2m people to use the stadium car park, which is nothing for a club of our size and we have got a reasonable central defender or midfielder paid for. I applaud Cortese for his forward thinking a vision. £1 is nothing to most of us but looking at the bigger picture is could be the difference between the riches of the premier league and play off disapointment.

Or fewer supporters ?

Time will tell I suppose !!

interesting that many of those who do not have a problem with paying to park to renew season ticket are also on here every saturday afternoon during the season

I can't believe some people use the "It goes to the club" excuse. Next time you get to the end of the month and you haven't spent all your wages, why not send the club a cheque? After all any money that "goes to the cub" must be a good thing.

There is no way supporters should be charged for the privellege of actually turniing up to give te club their business, they have removed the ability to use the instalment plan online or by phone, so those that want to ue it have no choice but to go there. The bigger the queue the more you'll pay for parking.

I don't care if it's 10p they're asking for, it's the principle. Thanks again for your ever worsening customer service SFC.

Why should you not be charged? You are parking on private property. If you get a bit peckish or thirsty during the game do you expet the club to give you free food and drink as you are need sustinance whilst giving your business to the club? There are roads around the stadium where you can park for free if you are that tight you begrudge giving this fantastic football club a few extra pounds here and there. Anything that assists us getting ahead of the competition is a good thing IMO and a small parking charge is small price to pay for the contentness i feel knowing that my hard earned money is going to a cause i adore.

This does seem a little mean by SFC to charge for parking during non match days but then again it shows how football clubs need as much money as they possibly can raise.

It's a business not a public service.

So how would our stadium development go down if it consisted of a multi-story car park I wonder?

People need to park somewhere FFS ;)

Would you pay to park in Sainsburys or Tesco every time you did your food shop? These are "customers" spending around £500 with the club and in a carpark which has plenty of spaces in the close season or midweek.

Would it be too much for the club to give you a ticket for the machine if it was clear you had used the ticket office or the store? NO it would not.

Then with such a high demand for parking spaces it's a wonderful gesture from Cortese to only charge £1 per hour. With so many people wanting to park he could rip fans off by charging city centre prices for parking. How lucky we are to have such a fantastic and thoughful chairman.

You pay to use West Quay car park to go shopping, why shouldn't you pay to use SFC car park? You dont have to park there, there are roads outside the stadium where parking is FOC. I am delighted to pay for the privilidge of using SFC car park though, contribution to the vision and future of this fantastic football club.

Fantastic piece of business?

Hmm, I think charging a pound for parking can be improved upon in the battle to raise revenues!!

As I said before, it shows how important it is to generate as much income as possible.

Yes it is. There are two excellent business reasons for the increased car parking charges. It's getting us fans used to paying for parking so it's not a shock in the future when the car park is full everyday when we are in the champions league. When we have thousands of tourists invading the stadium daily having their pictures taken, stadium tours, visiting the museum etc. We cant blame all our newly found over seas fans for the charges and show them bitterness and resentment, they have always been there so we will welcome them to the SFC family.

It's also about perception. We have a premium product and as such must pay for it. Do you think Armani, Gucci etc would be as loved round the world by the style concious if they were priced at the same level as Next or even Primark? By charging for parking Cortese is setting us a class above all these run of the mill championsip clubs and letting us know we have a great product, something lesser clubs fans can only dream of.

I say embrace the parking charges, applaud them. It's setting us apart from the majority and run of the mill.

being a city centre club we have to charge, before, too many people were leaving their cars there all day. The Premier Inn hotel used to be free too but now charges £5 for 24hrs

Peddled that line for years, it really is frustrating that every little thing is considered worthy of griping about. Anyway, I suspect the car park is a paid one these days to deter people from parking there for the whole day and fecking off to town...

suppose the difference if you are going to sms mid week during the summer you are going to spend money, whereas that is not the case with West Quay which is a global car park for all shops.

I moaned for a good 12 months after Lowe charged £1 to park for the Portsmouth away game.

It's a disgrace how you're charged to park when visiting the club on a non matchday. Fair enough impose a time limit of 30 mins to 1 hour if some people are taking advantage, but to make it 15 minutes is a p/ss take.

Hardly surprising though from Mr ticket tax.

Posted

As mentioned already, can't really moan as its sfc car park so its their choice, and stops anyone parking there for free and walking into town.

However, it has stopped me using the travel club coach as it would cost an additional 10 pound to park their as well as pay for the coach.

Im not moaning, il get alternative travel. Thats sfc choice to charge an on this occasion loose my revenue.

Todays Echo has a report on someone who has returned their season ticket because they had to pay a £1 to park. The article has your token miserable looking face to show how unhappy he his. A truly pathetic reaction in the slim hope that he hopes to get something out of the club by moaning.

really? LOL seems a bit over the top. Still fair play if he feels that strongly about it.
