Herbie and The Saints

Local playwright and avid saints fan Philip Douch has asked me to post this message about his new play "Herbie and The Saints". Performances are already booked in July for The Nuffield, Southampton and for The Berry Theatre, Hedge End.

Philip says....

I'm really excited because the play is now in rehearsal and coming together extremely well. We have assembled a talented group of professional actors and musicians and I am confident that any Saints fan will have a really fun night out if you come and see it. It's a feel-good celebration piece with lots of laughs and songs, celebrating the club’s last two years from near extinction to promotion. It will be performed at The Berry Theatre in Hedge End on Thursday 28th July and at The Nuffield Studio Theatre in Southampton on Saturday 30th July.

The play follows the fortunes of real-life Fan of the Year Herbie Taylor and a bunch of bantering supporters who seem to have a song for every occasion.

Feel free to come along dressed for an evening out or for a game at St Mary’s. For no extra charge you can come to the 'pre-season friendly' before the performance to learn some of the songs and chants from the show! You can even opt to watch standing up from the 'terraces' without being shouted at to sit down.

The play will be performed at The Berry Theatre in Hedge End on Thursday 28th July (book now on 01489 799499) and at The Nuffield Studio Theatre in Southampton on Saturday 30th July (book now on 02380 671771). On-line bookings are possible too - go to http://www.theberrytheatre.co.uk or http://www.nuffieldtheatre.co.uk for more information about the play and ways of booking.

If you can forward these details to help market the play to other Saints fans you know, that would be great.

I am also really keen to get one or two organisations to book the show into their own community venue in the second half of July. Ring/text me on 07847 664359 if you might be interested in this and can guarantee an audience of at least 50. It doesn't have to be a theatre - a school or community building of some sort would be fine (might this work for a school, workplace or social club someone on the forum is involved with, for instance, or maybe for one of our supporters groups outside of Southampton?). If you have access to a venue and are confident of getting more than 50 people, you might even be able to use a performance as a charity fund-raiser from the tickets you sell once you've met the cost of booking the show.

Tickets for the show cost £12 or £8 for standing and concessions. Please note that if you want to see the play at The Berry, standing tickets and concessions need to be booked via The Berry Box Office on 01489 799 499. The show is suitable for all aged 14+ (or younger if their ears are used to football crowds....)

Anyway, I very much hope that we see some of you at one of our performances.

Please note: Herbie and The Saints is an independent production and is not supported nor endorsed by Southampton Football Club.

So, get your group of friends and fans together and book now for a Saints evening to fill that gap before the season proper kicks off. Having seen some of Philip's previous offerings I can guarantee you will be in for a great evening.

Posted again on behalf of Philip Douch the playwright.....

Hi everyone. Tickets for my 'Herbie and The Saints' play are now bookable online at The Berry (http://www.theberrytheatre.co.uk)and The Nuffield (http://www.nuffieldtheatre.co.uk), as well as by phone.

My thanks to those of you who are getting the information circulated through all sorts of helpful channels. I would just ask that none of us uses any official Saints club channels to market the play, as I am wanting to avoid any suggestion or implication that the play is formally supported or endorsed by the club. The marketing flyers specifically state this - it is an entirely independent production and it would be inappropriate if anyone felt that the club was formally linked with it.

But please do carry on letting people know about it in other ways; it is a great help and much appreciated.

Many thanks for your help. Rehearsals are going really well!

Philip
