Huntingdon Posted 6 July, 2011 Share Posted 6 July, 2011 That's strange, I read a couple of weeks back that he'd left as Eastleigh Assistant Manager to take up a full-time post at Aldershot Let's hope our pies live up to his expectations

sambosa75 Posted 6 July, 2011 Share Posted 6 July, 2011 He's been at Saints for ages. He coaches the group that my nephew plays for. All the lads love him. Firm but fair. Was always a top pro and can only be a good things for that to rub off on the kids.
a1ex2001 Posted 6 July, 2011 Share Posted 6 July, 2011 I remember when Strachan signed him there were a few grumbles but he came in and fixed our defensive issues in an instant he was a proper old fashioned rock at the back. Him and Telfer were inspired signings.

Tony F Posted 6 July, 2011 Share Posted 6 July, 2011 I agree that he had a certain "journeyman" image but he was simply superb in the middle of the back four for those couple of seasons. Never spectacular - always reliable.
Big_Bald_Si Posted 6 July, 2011 Share Posted 6 July, 2011 Good to see the big man back. Was a big fan of him when Strachan snapped him up (although hesitant at first, but quickly changed my opinion with some committed performances), so good luck! Sure he'll do an excellent job. JonnyLove Posted 6 July, 2011 Share Posted 6 July, 2011 So he did (apparently) http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/9095223.Eastleigh_rocked_by_departure_of_ex_Saint/ I wonder did things not work out at Aldershot or did Saints just make a better offer. The article on the SFC website states "After retiring from playing in 2005 he turned his hand to coaching, and was then reunited with former teammate Jason Dodd as assistant manager at Aldershot Town two years ago." So I'd say the Echo are a bit far out with this if he moved 2 years ago to Aldershot town.

swannymere Posted 6 July, 2011 Share Posted 6 July, 2011 I always liked Willow, never saw him run until one game at St.Mary's where a young whippersnapper appeared to have got the better of him until Willow found a burst of speed from somewhere and surprised everybody by getting the ball off the young upstart. Maybe not the most talented but always gave his best.
Scudamore Posted 6 July, 2011 Share Posted 6 July, 2011 Always liked way he would duck out of a defensive header...keeps the keeper guessing that...

It was glorious how Willow was able to do it. Top lad that Willow!

ribbo Posted 7 July, 2011 Share Posted 7 July, 2011 The article on the SFC website states "After retiring from playing in 2005 he turned his hand to coaching, and was then reunited with former teammate Jason Dodd as assistant manager at Aldershot Town two years ago." So I'd say the Echo are a bit far out with this if he moved 2 years ago to Aldershot town. his previous work at saints was part time and done to get his badges, then he applied for both the Eastleigh assistant role and the Aldershot role at the same time, he took the eastleigh role then aldershot made a decision on they're Youth Development role and offered it to him, he left eastleigh with no hard feelings according to the eastleigh website.. I should imagine a fulltime role with Saints was an even better oppertunity, so he came back to his spiritual home
sotonist Posted 7 July, 2011 Share Posted 7 July, 2011 Could well be, can't honestly remember apart from they were heading towards the Chapel End. I always thought it was henry, but it was probably the wrong side of the pitch for him tbh. Anelka would explain the confusion.
