trousers Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 The people have spoken. I went into 4 newsagents today and not one of them were stocking the News of the World. Power to the people and down with the NOTW! What you talkin' about Willis?
the stain Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Coz it's Fursday, innit. Did they have the Sun for sale? You sound like a NOTW apologist. Maybe in your area, they are all supporting the paper, but down here we are clearly boycotting it in all of our newsagents. If only you, and the rest of the country, would share our morals and we could bring this paper down once and for all.
the stain Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 In other words, The Sun will now be a 7-day paper. No win.
Crab Lungs Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Glad it's gone, but I wonder how many people will buy the NoTW this Sunday as a souvenir, seeing as it's the last one? :-/
pedg Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Did someone grow a set? No just realised it was a terminally tainted brand. As said above will probably mean they will be reemployed on the 'Sunday Sun'
the stain Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 By way of protest, I have been skipping track 5 on The Jam's Snap! album all this week.
Saintandy666 Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 In other words, The Sun will now be a 7-day paper. No win. That's probably what will happen, though maybe not immediately. Give it a few months to die down and what not. That's unless the Sun is also affected by association.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 No just realised it was a terminally tainted brand. As said above will probably mean they will be reemployed on the 'Sunday Sun' It would be interesting to see the sales figures for the Sun and Times over the past few days.
Hatch Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Thousand more on the rock n roll? Loads of innocent sales , marketing, accounts , distribution staff now being dragged down.
Sheaf Saint Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Confirmed... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14070733 I hope this doesn't mean that the investigation into what happened will suddenly just disappear as well. The people responsible still need to be brought in front of a judge and jury for their illegal and immoral actions.
Sheaf Saint Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 That's probably what will happen, though maybe not immediately. Give it a few months to die down and what not. That's unless the Sun is also affected by association. I would say it is. They may technically be two separate compaines but the faces are the same and they both peddle the same kind of stories. It's difficult to believe that this practise was rife at the NoTW over several years but The sun is completely innocent.
the stain Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 News of the World goes; Rebekah Brooks stays. How does that work?
trousers Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Actually, crafty move by Murdoch - watch the sales go through the roof this weekend..... ;-)
keithd Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Thousand more on the rock n roll? Loads of innocent sales , marketing, accounts , distribution staff now being dragged down. guilty by association. f&&k em bought to you by the Caring Sharing Keithd
pedg Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 News of the World goes; Rebekah Brooks stays. How does that work? I have a vision of Brookes talking to Murdoch saying "Look into my eyes, look into my eyes, the eyes, the eyes, not around the eyes, don't look around my eyes, look into my eyes, you're under."
Sheaf Saint Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 News of the World goes; Rebekah Brooks stays. How does that work? Isn't she still CEO of the News International group though?
pedg Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Actually, crafty move by Murdoch - watch the sales go through the roof this weekend..... ;-) The whole 'its all for charity thing' is sickening. They realised the sales would plummet as things stood.
Sheaf Saint Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 The whole 'its all for charity thing' is sickening. They realised the sales would plummet as things stood. Agreed. They know the brand is now unrecoverably tarnished and the game is up, and this seems like a publicity stunt - one final attempt to wring as much cash out of the unsuspecting public as possible.
pedg Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 http://twitter.com/#!/jonsnowC4/status/89001304021680128 You would have thought Jon Snow knows what the caps lock button does.
Crab Lungs Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14052690 Enjoyed watching this, scummy dirty-teethed journo getting pwned by Hugh Grant
Rory Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Murdoch sacrificed his tainted goods to protect his Bskyb deal.
Crab Lungs Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Murdoch sacrificed his tainted goods to protect his Bskyb deal. I think you're right, defo.
solentstars Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 blimey anyone would think the other papers have not used these vile hacking methods in the past, the whole newspaper industry needs looking into and a body which oversees them needs powers not self regulation.
the stain Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 From a freelancer on Twitter: "A #NOTW journalist tells me the feeling in the newsroom towards Rebekah Brooks is 'utter fury she has sacrificed paper to save her job'"

solentstars Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 News of the World goes; Rebekah Brooks stays. How does that work?they get rid of the news of the world staff and cut their costs even more and have a 7 day sun.murdock will still have the leading mass market paper and still own sky makeing him still the most important guy for politicians to suck up to.
solentstars Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 From a freelancer on Twitter: "A #NOTW journalist tells me the feeling in the newsroom towards Rebekah Brooks is 'utter fury she has sacrificed paper to save her job'" seems about right evil women who has no shame.

the stain Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 "There’s good news and bad news. The bad news is Neil will be taking over both branches and some of you will lose your jobs… On a more positive note the good news is I’ve been promoted - so every cloud… you’re still thinking about the bad news aren’t you?"
CB Saint Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Have to say that I didn't see that coming. Brooks does have to resign - even if she didn't know, she created the culture of the paper. Just heard labour mp Tom Watson talking about it. Fair play that he led the campaign, but he sullied that by trying to bring Cameron into it again. It
Saintandy666 Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 4,000 people have been hacked apparently... minimum. Each so far has been getting around £100,000 in compensation. Imagine if that was repeated across the board. That's £400m.
pedg Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 I see Coulson has been fed to the dogs (to be arrested tomorrow, all very polite). Its almost like Rebekah Brookes is a queen bee and all her drones are sacrificing themselves (or being sacrificed without their consent) to keep her alive.

Wade Garrett Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 I think the Murdoch brand in the UK has been severely wounded. If the Sky deal goes through, I don't think I'll be alone in chucking in my subscription (TV, phone and broadband).
SuperMikey Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 No real loss, just another outlet for the gutter press gone. I hope the c*nts behind the disgraceful acts that have led to this closure are brought to justice - starting with Coulson.

aintforever Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Great news, about time that rag got what' it deserved. Probably just rebrand it and set up next week but I expect whatever they come up with will be viewed as the same anyway.
Saintandy666 Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Peanuts to NI. True, but none the less, bigger than the £20m they set aside originally. Could actually make a dent. But this isn't really about money. I just hope people see through this end of the NOTW gimmick for what it is and also pile pressure on the Sun on Sunday.
SuperMikey Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Will he keep the NI vow of silence? Probably I fear. If he doesn't crack, somebody else will. I have 100% confidence that the whole organisation is corrupt, right up to the top. I think this may be the beginning of the end for News International.
revolution saint Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 If he doesn't crack, somebody else will. I have 100% confidence that the whole organisation is corrupt, right up to the top. I think this may be the beginning of the end for News International. I agree, and maybe winding up the NOTW isn't such a clever move either. Clearly it was dead duck but by existing it could absorb the outrage of the masses - by getting rid of it there isn't a brand to apologise for it's mistakes. Except there needs to be someone to blame, and not just Wade, so where does that anger get deflected to? As it stands it's the rest of Murdoch's tabloid press (ie The Sun). People are a lot more media savvy these days and personally I don't think they'll take kindly to what is in effect a complete evasion of culpability by News International. The tabloid Murdoch press has been used to whipping it's readers up in a frenzy so it's quite ironic that it's that same baying mob that is causing it's downfall.
pedg Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Does not take long for Rupe's old friends, the unions, to add to his problems (Oh how I weep!).. http://www.nuj.org.uk/innerPagenuj.html?docid=2153 In solidarity with colleagues at the News of the World, tonight Sub-Editors at The Sun newspaper have walked out of work in protest.
aintforever Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Because of the way they pulled the plug you have to wonder how for up the tree this phone hacking goes.
pedg Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Because of the way they pulled the plug you have to wonder how for up the tree this phone hacking goes. I think it fairly clear that it leads as far as Rebekah brooks at least. Question is why all the slash and burn to protect her?
