up and away Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 Cork has said he wants to get a deal done early so he can enjoy a full pre-season. He has talked with us and from his girl friends comments, it did not look like he was coming to us? That said, I am not sure what other hard offers are on the table and West Ham may well be strung until they offload some of their current high earners. If Cork was really serious about being settled at a new club early, we could well be back in the mix. Either way I am not too bothered and will wait and see who we get and how good they actually turn out to be.
shurlock Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 Agreed. Though if you REALLY want a conspiracy : http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/players/jack-cork/profile-48 Wot, is that the new shirt?
Greenridge Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 we had our bid accepted weeks ago, Chelsea said yes, but Cork no. Cork met with Cortese 10 days ago and was made an offer but told he had 24 hrs to accept. Cork didn't take kindly to this ultimatum....
saintscottofthenortham Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 Cork met with Cortese 10 days ago and was made an offer but told he had 24 hrs to accept. Cork didn't take kindly to this ultimatum.... Lol. Of course.
Greenridge Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 Lol. Of course. Remove the 'lol' and you'd be right.
Liquidshokk Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 I worry about players coming in that arent passionate about joining us. I remember dale stephens (or admittedly his agent) turned us down or wasn't fussed about coming to us and it really showed IMO...

TBF i trust Adkins and Cortese to sniff those types out pretty quickly. We'll only sign the right sort of characters.
ericofarabia Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 11pm anyone? Isn't 11.32 or something silly to screw over the Echo deadline!!
Joesaint Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 I like it that jack corks england photo on twitter is at saints Come on please sign
shurlock Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 We'll do what we want and all that; but we're no longer in L1. Wouldn't be surprised if the newboys tag affects our ability to recrituit. Even if we go on and blitz the league, would an ambitious player at the start of the season take a gamble with us, an unknown quantity or plump for a proven championship side?

Even if we go on and blitz the league, would an ambitious player at the start of the season take a gamble with us, an unknown quantity or plump for a proven championship side? But the same argument holds true for a "former Prem side with significant monetary support who are clearly on their way back". If I was in Cork's position I'd be torn between Burnley, West Ham, Saints and Leicester, assuming they were all interested.

I remember dale stephens (or admittedly his agent) turned us down or wasn't fussed about coming to us and it really showed IMO... Oh come on, exacklty how many clubs is someone expected to be "passionate" playing for? I reckon one, and only one, assumning you were borm a footy fan. The rest are jobs and hopefully jobs you can be enthusiastic about, but not so "passionate" that you go with little or no pay, bad conditions, better offer blah blah blah

If your mind is elsewhere you'll naturally underperform. Dale wouldn't have had a bad deal when he joined saints. Not as if the loan deal or the thought of playing fur saints permanently wouldn't have been an attractive deal but his heart wasn't in it from the start it would seem. Really think Cork would be any different based on what we're reading??
tedmaul Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 I think it's fair to say he's weighing up his options. I know Swansea want him, as a swap for Pratley.
skintsaint Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 I think it's fair to say he's weighing up his options. I know Swansea want him, as a swap for Pratley. Pratley signed for Bolton on a free after being out of contract.

Even then they will say you can't rely on this or that source. Some on here will never admit defeat and will always want the last word.
Chez Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 (edited) Pratley signed for Bolton on a free after being out of contract. he means replacement for. Sounds to me like he isn't rushing to sign for us and seeing if something better comes along - not exactly a great desire there to be a Saint. Strange that we have decided to reveal our transfer dealings now. Perhaps we are struggling to attract players so we have revealed we are in for him and others to show we are serious and this will persuade others to sign for us. Edited 2 July, 2011 by Chez
saint lard Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 If true,£750k appears a good deal. But does he really want to come to SFC?
Toomer Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 Cork to sign a three year contract Monday...................................but who with?
Professor Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 he means replacement for. Very possible, with Adkins again talking about wanting to bring players in. If a player has more than one option and the money is not massively different, the club that is showing the greater ambition is likely to be the choice. By the end of today we may have a clearer picture of SFC's ambitions. Lets hope its positive.
John Boy Saint Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 Maybe it's time to drag out the big dog, Lawrie Mac. He had a knack of picking up some of the most famous players in the land, he never took them straight to The Dell he would always give them a bit of a tour of the area to show them the quality of life they would have away from the ground. Perhaps "Mrs" Cork needs the tour. Southampton area is 10x nicer than Burnley.
dronskisaint Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 Cork met with Cortese 10 days ago and was made an offer but told he had 24 hrs to accept. Cork didn't take kindly to this ultimatum.... Source?
S-Clarke Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 Cork to sign a three year contract Monday...................................but who with? Well it'll either be us or Chelsea!
Turkish Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 But the same argument holds true for a "former Prem side with significant monetary support who are clearly on their way back". If I was in Cork's position I'd be torn between Burnley, West Ham, Saints and Leicester, assuming they were all interested. Lets be real, if you had no alligence to any of those 4, right now Saints and Burnley would be your third & fourth choice. If he enjoyed being at Burnley they might be ahead of us.

Turkish Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 fuk off Turkish you ****. we are southampton, we'll sign who we want..ffs I said right now you moron, not next week after we have announced the signings of Scott Parker, Shay Given, John Carew, Matthew Upson and Jon Arne Riise.

Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 Cork to sign a three year contract Monday...................................but who with? Well it'll either be us or Chelsea! Well, IF it is us, I hope he's coming wanting to play for Saints and not just because the other teams he fancied joining didn't come up with the funds. Better to miss out than sign a good player who's heart really isn't in it.
hypochondriac Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 Tbh if he goes somewhere else now it's going to look really bad on us after being turned down by sharp.
Thedelldays Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 Tbh if he goes somewhere else now it's going to look really bad on us after being turned down by sharp. why..? if he goes to west ham or leicester...or even burnley..why would that look bad on us..?
hypochondriac Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 why..? if he goes to west ham or leicester...or even burnley..why would that look bad on us..? Because we already announced that we were interested. It would be concerning if players keep turning us down. Are we offering the requires wages? Or is other factors?
S-Clarke Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 Because we already announced that we were interested. It would be concerning if players keep turning us down. Are we offering the requires wages? Or is other factors? It would be more down to the fact that West Ham are a bigger club than us, and are expected to go straight back up to the premiership. We've just been promoted, you never know how it could end up. Bit of a gamble, and if he likes to play it safe then he'll go to a club that have a real shot at the top 2 spots.
Thedelldays Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 Because we already announced that we were interested. It would be concerning if players keep turning us down. Are we offering the requires wages? Or is other factors? but we walked away from sharpe..? oh yeah, you believe press reports than our own manager...sorry about that this is football...money talks...no shame on being out done by west ham and leicester this summer
Fowllyd Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 You know that the usual suspects will want it written and signed in stone and with a video of him saying it before they will accept it. Even then they will say you can't rely on this or that source. Some on here will never admit defeat and will always want the last word. Did you actually read those articles? The first contains no comment or opinion from Cork himself - merely the vague statement that he is "keen to move across London". Possibly true, possibly not, but it's not exactly conclusive. The second article has the Lancashire Telegraph's writer telling us know that: "Southampton had an offer accepted late last month but I understand Cork is not keen on a move to the south coast club." Again, this may or may not be true, but you can't call it conclusive proof. The third is simply a verbatim copy of the first. I doubt anyone wants a video of Cork saying anything, but an actual, attributed quote from him would make a difference. Personally, I have no idea whatsoever about where Cork will be playing next season and if asked to guess I'd say he's keeping his options open, hoping for the best deal he can get.
Turkish Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 but we walked away from sharpe..? oh yeah, you believe press reports than our own manager...sorry about that this is football...money talks...no shame on being out done by west ham and leicester this summer No Jamie, if we cant compete with West Ham and Leicester now what hope do we have of being in the champions league in 3 years?

Sven laughing stock Ericsson would hardly be inspirational whilst Big Sam seems to be basing his West Ham revival around Nolan. Would there be room at West Ham for both Cork and Nolan?? hypochondriac Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 but we walked away from sharpe..? oh yeah, you believe press reports than our own manager...sorry about that this is football...money talks...no shame on being out done by west ham and leicester this summer I reckon sharp didn't want to come here so asked for a lot in return for moving from the north. We said no so he walked away. Therefore we turned him down and he also turned us down so nobody is being untruthful.

Sven laufghing stock Ericsson would hardly be inspirational whilst Big Sam seems to be basing his West Ham revival around Nolan. Would there be room at West Ham for both Cork and Nolan?? Err- West Ham, possibly bigger club, better players, good manager, better chance of going up, in London where Cork us based at the moment. Leicester - making a big push for promotion, spending big on good championship players, whatever you think of Sven he has managed at top club and international level. Who would a player rather play uder, Sven ex-manager of England, Lazio, Roma, 17 titles under his belt or Nige, 3 seasons at the mighty S****horpe and one at Saints??? Burnley - Cork was there on loan, if he enjoyed it he might want to stay, who knows?? Saints - newly promoted, yet to sign anyone of note, but he can be "on the bus" FFS. I know a lot of you look at Saints with some ridiculous bias that players are falling over each other to join us but the reality is there are other clubs out there players would rather join.
benjii Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 If Cork goes out with some bint from Essex you have to question his judgment anyway.
hypochondriac Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 yeah, probably like that...maybe, who knows but hinging how attractive club we are on jack cork signing or not is rather short sightedness IMO I'm not but if we are being turned down by our first choices so we have to go with the lower quality player, then I think that is a cause for concern. We want to get promoted asap and so we need the best players we can.

Turkish Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 If Cork goes out with some bint from Essex you have to question his judgment anyway. Denise Van Outen is from Essex, i'd smash her all over Basildon FFS.

Sven laufghing stock Ericsson would hardly be inspirational whilst Big Sam seems to be basing his West Ham revival around Nolan. Would there be room at West Ham for both Cork and Nolan?? Can't see Leicester going in for him now that they've got Danns. They already have so many CMs that their lot's first reaction on hearing they had landed Danns was not upbeat or positve but the fear that the decks were being cleared for the sale of their talisman Andy King. With King, Oakley, Wellens, Abe and now Danns, they're stuffed with CMs.
Thedelldays Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 Denise Van Outen is from Essex, i'd smash her all over Basildon FFS. I am going to make it my mission now to meet an essex bird on holiday when I go to Zante......
Cabrone Posted 2 July, 2011 Posted 2 July, 2011 I think we should only sign players who are committed to the club. The question is, is he committed? Doesn't sound it to me.
