Alternatively, by saying we have agreed a fee with chelsea, it is showing our intent. Kind of masks diappointment of player not signing by showing that we are in for players! Its a web of intrigue

 

I think this is more likely. To me it indicates Cork isn't interested.

So if that is the case, why bother making it public? If it doesn't happy now and we don't get someone in at least as good, many people are going to be p*ssed off.

Well exactly, but we have fans that would moan either way. This is exactly why transfers should be kept silent until 100%, and i'm fairley confident this will happen as Cork has no where else to go and he's on record stating that he wants to get it sorted for pre-season.

I agree with Pat! I think they mentioned it to emphasise the kind of player we are bidding on! Got to face it, Corky is waiting on better options otherwise it would have been announced!

On my OfficialSaints twitter link it's still on there, also on Sibley's. There are issues sometimes on twitter updates, but it's still there for me.

 

As has been mentioned, it would be extremely wierd for Saints to talk about it if it was dead in the water. Especially as they would have known for the last two weeks.

I had heard before the U21s that it was a done deal and he had bought a audi R8 with his £200k signing on fee, but as i have low post count thought id be ridiculed as a WUM

Adkins only said we had a bid accepted by Chelsea for Cork, he didn't say he was likely to sign.

If he was going to sign Adkins would have stayed silent.

In any case Jack Cork has openly admitted publicly he is interested only in West Hams offer.

It's been in all the press,and on all the relevant forums including on here.

Adkins was only trying use the Cork bid as an example of intent

Source for that? I don't recall him admitting publicly anything about West Ham anywhere in the press over the last few months.

I have to say that I think you're probably right. I'd love Cork to sign but can't help thinking this is, as you say, a statement to show we're active and the type of player we're interested in. NC seems too cautious to allow a deal to be jeopardised by leaking it too the press. Only reason I can see for mentioning Cork is if he knows he definitely will sign......or he definitely won't Hope it's the former.

Jack Cork's agent would be hawking his client out to every club in England that might have him. They would all be aware of the situation, Adkins mentioning it today would make little difference.

Confirms our interest and alerts other clubs to sort something out earlier? Could be a whole host of reasons - you're best off asking NC as he's the one operating that policy up till now.

well, he has NEVER let it be known he is keen on signing for us, despite our bid being on the table a week before.

Face it if he were interested in us he would not let be known publicly he was keen on another club, would he.

- Nor is it a number of sources as you claimed and "all in the press".

- Nor is it an actual quote from Cork publicly admitting anything. It is completely unsubstantiated.

Of course I don't have a clue really, none of us have, it's just my opinion that it's less likely Cork signs than him signing. I really hope I'm wrong. Bloody hell - you lot take this seriously don't you? It was just my take on it.

Having been on duty with the U21s Cork has an additional week before reporting in for pre-season. The deal won't formally be anounced until he's back for the press jamboree.

Hmm maybe I need to work on taking it more seriously...... Anyway to be pedantic I never suggested the comments today would affect the chances of Cork signing. My opinion was that by releasing details of our interest it indicated that we probably knew he wouldn't sign. That is just my opinion though.....I've nothing to back that up.
