I have just spoken to NC this morning outside the ticket office about 7:40

and he confirmed there will be money to spend if required!!!

Well he has your season ticket money for starters.

To me that means nothing, If you sell Oxy then you have money, It's what you do with it that counts.

He also said have more faith in the current squad, we will only bring new faces in if they are better than what we already have.

You can read that a number of ways. My interpretation is we won't be bringing anyone in for the immediate future.

Did you ask him if he has stepped up his plans to build a sell out 45000 stadium ? ;)

ONLY from the Sale of OXO, NOTHING from the "Leibherr Fund"

How do you know that? I bet you used to root around your parents bedroom at the end of October and threw a paddy if you couldn't find any Christmas presents.

in other words, he thinks the squad in general is good enough and doesnt need much strengthening.

Perhaps we will have to wait until jan to see if we really want to go up again or try and save our spot in this league.

Why is a negative slant placed upon every sniff of news? Seriously, we have demonstrated spending muscle in the past, and no doubt, we will demonstrate it again. We will not go advertising our spending power. We equally won't go about buying average players or paying too much.

Adkins just said no bids for Chamberlain and significant bid for Sharp accepted.

There is money. I'm sure it'll be spent this summer.

I'm also sure the moaning will never stop. Let's face it, we've spent a fortune for a lower league club, employed championship players on championship wages in League 1, got promoted, but apparently we don't spend enough?

I'm completely against this spending = success argument anyway. Far rather a good manager with some time than a poor manager with plenty of money.

Totally agree with everything you say there. As we've seen with M'Boro last season, they spent £12m - they finished bottom half.

Swansea barley spent a penny, but kept a squad together for years and built on the momentum.

Whatever he said you would have found a suitably negative slant to put on it.

again, negative or realistic? Would Cortese stand there and say "no we are skint and have no money"?

I didn't say we dont have money.

Is that from today MLG?

Adkins confirmed it in the press Conf.

which makes me believe we're pretty close to annoucing it....(we're the only club to have a bid accepted as well, so he's got no one else to talk to)

I would have agreed before, but he's not a man who'd bid £3.25m for a player BEFORE selling Chamberlain, if we had no money. Before the deal was announced, anything could happen, he could get injured badly, they could pull out, and our finances would be stuffed.

We offered £3.25m because it was available. I think any Chamberlain deals are completely separate.

Is it beyond the realms of possibility that he bid in the expectation of getting that money and made the bid conditional on getting it? Just a thought.

And there's the conspiracy theory.

In theory it's possible I suppose. Just like in theory the USA could have been responsible for 9/11, or that man didn't land on the moon.

Ffs, can't people just focus on what was a very positive press conference.

Agree, it'll make a nice change to see a progressive squad over the years by keeping the best and adding to it through the youth development and sound purchases. In the past I think there were an average of 10-12 changes (in's and out's) in the squad per year. That's certainly changed.

I also think there is some over-analysis of any communications from the club or media.

Cork clearly is good enough - as evidenced by his loan spell with Burnley last season. As for Riise, well he was good once but not so sure now. More importantly I do not think we will see Saints signing players 30+ of age. It just does not fit with the build for the future philosophy. I may be wrong but signing younger players like Cork who will only get better seems the right move for me.

Don't agree with that at all. He'd walk into every championship team, and quite a few premiership teams. He's not the ''top level'' player he once was, but we're not playing at the top level so he'd be a great asset.

You can't pass up the oppertunity to sign quality like Riise, and you can't rely just on youth. Look what happend the last time we tried that!!

Thats the baby! we are being set up for the disappointment!! we need fast fast striker, creative midfielder and brick cm without doubt!

Not so sure. We have 4 decent strikers on the books +Forte who can play there. We have Seabourne and Martin as good back ups at centre back. Midfielder would be nice though. I think this idea about having faith in the current squad is a good thought. They did get us promotion and are obviously good enough to keep us up in the Championship. Remember it was never essental we go up to the PL this year. Some would say that is too soon. So I see nothing wrong in running with the current squad till Christmas and then see if we need to strengthen either to bid for the playoffs or (heaven forbid) to protect our Championship status. Controlled development around a settled squad is a pretty good strategy. This season will almost certainly see another star emerge from the youth ranks. Jack Stephens maybe or Luke Shaw?

No offense but Riise despite his past exploits would command huge wages and is getting much older, whilst Cork is improving and can play in the Premiership as he showed for Burnley and would be a leading midfielder in the championship.

And would stay around much longer than a Riise who would just be a bit of an old mercanary, living on past Liverpool exploits. What would Riise actually bring to the team that we don't have already?

Surely what we need is another CM, a new CB to replace the aging Jaidi to partner Fonte and a pacy striker to compliment the likes of Lambert and Barnard. We're so far going for two of those options with Maynard/Sharp bids plus the Cork bid being accepted. I'm very happy with what we're doing in this window.

Spot on. Riise would be a waste of money.
