Saint in Paradise Posted 30 June, 2011 Share Posted 30 June, 2011 The world's longest bridge over sea water has opened to general traffic in China's eastern coastal city of Qingdao. The Qingdao Haiwan Bridge is 26.4 miles long, almost three miles longer than the previous record-holder. http://msn.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/video.cfm?c_id=2&gal_cid=2&gallery_id=119910 . Colinjb Posted 30 June, 2011 Share Posted 30 June, 2011 (edited) You want a wonder of the modern world? That's it. Stunning, just utterly stunning. To solve traffic problems in a city they used the bay in between them, outrageous, audacious... inspired!!! ecuk268 Posted 1 July, 2011 Share Posted 1 July, 2011 The Chinese don't mess about do they? Shanghai has the worlds largest underground metro. The whole system was built in 20 years and is still expanding. We spend that long on public enquiries.
JackFrost Posted 1 July, 2011 Share Posted 1 July, 2011 What's even more amazing is their currently building the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge that will be even bigger than this. Although it's more a series of tunnels and bridges than an actual bridge but the whole link will be over 31 miles long! Set to be completed in 2015-2016

The council have blown their entire budget on moving water and electric pipes from the proposed route! It's cost something like £500m and they are no way near finished! They do not listen to anyone either nationally or internationally. Human rights do not exist for them.
