dune Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 It's on my 'to do list' for this summer. Is it a good show?
JackanorySFC Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 No would love to go to one though, will make up my mind about my thoughts on it as a sport/ spectical after I've seen it. Ate carpachio of "Torro" (sp) in Costa Brava 2 years ago, lovely!
rpb Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 Yes - 50 years ago (I doubt that it has changed much). Not really.

Ate carpachio of "Torro" (sp) in Costa Brava 2 years ago, lovely! I'm the same - i'd like to make my own mind up on it after witnessing the whole festival and what it means to the people. I don't think it's right to be judgemental of other peoples cultures without experiencing them first hand.

Even though it involves teasing the animal and then subjecting it to a slow and painful death?
dune Posted 30 June, 2011 Author Posted 30 June, 2011 Even though it involves teasing the animal and then subjecting it to a slow and painful death? These bulls have a far better and longer life prior to the festival than the beasts that they put in your big macs.
dune Posted 30 June, 2011 Author Posted 30 June, 2011 Don't bite, people. Thanks. That is the last thing we need. I'm not at all interested in a debate on the sport. Ideally i'd love to see a fight at Ronda (not far from San Pedro de Alcantara where i'll be staying) which is the home of modern bullfighting and a fantastic historical arena. I'd imagine that there is far more to the festival than just the main event and this is really what i'd like to experience. Looking at dates I don't think it'll be possible at ronda so i'm now drawn to seville and staying over for a night.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 It's on my 'to do list' for this summer. Is it a good show? I thought you hated animal cruelty? Another hypocritical Tory I suppose and before you come out with the old "it's culture" ********, it's barbaric and should be stopped, end of. It's in the same league as bear baiting, dog and cock fights.

Block 18 Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 Went to a bull fight about 35 years ago, whilst yes there is more to it than just the fight cant say I would bother going again. This however looks like more fun http://www.spanish-fiestas.com/video/pamplona-bull-run.htm
70's Mike Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 In the 70's on a lads holiday to Spain, 1976, £50 for 2 weeks. A trip to a Bull fight, a BBQ and pi** up on a remote beach were standard options. all i can remember was it was hot,the seats were hard and after the first fight it was boring because the result is not in doubt
teamsaint Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 I went to one about 20 years ago. it certainly gives you a little extra insight into spanish culture, not least its hierarchies, and the general distaste for the Guardia Civil. For all that it gives you an insight, I can't say I would want to go again, or that it makes me think that bloodsports are a good idea. its also a useful addition to reading Hemingway novels......
aintforever Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 If I went it would only be in the hope of watching some cruel Spaniard have his nuts gouged off.
the stain Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 I don't agree with bullfighting as it is inhumane. I prefer to leave the bull in the back of a car on a hot afternoon for an hour and kill it that way.
latter day saint Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 i've been to a c.ock fight i was young & confused at the time
Sheaf Saint Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 My parents took me to one as a child while we were on holiday in Spain. I only have a vague recollection of it as I would have been very young at the time. I personally believe that to call it a bullfight is a bit of a misnomer really. It suggests that the bull actually has a remote chance of winning. Execution would be a more fitting description.
Bath Saint Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 Banned in the Canary Islands and about to be banned in Cataluna. Bull fighting is hardly ever performed in the northern part of Spain these days - I think they regard it with distaste. It's very common down in Andalucia. Pewrsonally speaking, I think I'd rather go to one of the recortes (bull-leaping) which is non-violent (for the bull at least) and involves the guy leaping and dodging the bull charges.
Dog Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 I have been to 3 bull fights, 2 friendlies and 1 full on blood snot & sh1t. Great fun, and I'm going again in August!!
dune Posted 1 July, 2011 Author Posted 1 July, 2011 Been watching some of the fights on youtube. You've got to admire the history of the event and the art of the matador. The ones where the matador is on a horse look really good.
Dimond Geezer Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 Been watching some of the fights on youtube. You've got to admire the history of the event and the art of the matador. The ones where the matador is on a horse look really good. The guys on horseback are not matadors, they are called picadors and are there purely to soften up the bull for the matador. I admire the horese riding skills of the picadors, but the rest of it is pretty abhorrent.
Dog Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 This matador is a useless ****, but I love the way he walks off with his head in the clouds. A true legend in his own mind! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbiotnIPjoU&feature=related However, I have nothing against bullfighting or fox hunting, it's up there with the great sports of the world like seal cubbing, which I intend to do next season.
mitch01 Posted 3 July, 2011 Posted 3 July, 2011 I went with a 'when in Rome' attitude, but upon reflection, thats no excuse for contributing to a morally indefensible activity, really, is it?
rocknrollman no2 Posted 4 July, 2011 Posted 4 July, 2011 Bullfighting is cruel,as is throwing goats off a tall tower and encouraging crowds of people to beat a donkey to death all in the name of fun. Spains animal rights makes our foxhunting(another barbaric activity),look tame.
Dog Posted 7 February, 2012 Posted 7 February, 2012 http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=ce4_1328562328 Different kind of bullfighting, where the bull is owned by a gang, at the end of the film you can see the losing gang performing CPR on the crocked bull.
Orange Posted 7 February, 2012 Posted 7 February, 2012 I was in a town where they let the bulls run from one side of the town centre to another etc, whilst the town men all get stuck in. Was a great event.
Eastcowzer Posted 7 February, 2012 Posted 7 February, 2012 It's on my 'to do list' for this summer. Is it a good show? Not if you're a bull, it is'nt
Dog Posted 7 February, 2012 Posted 7 February, 2012 I've been to a camel fight in Africa, that was a right laugh.
buctootim Posted 7 February, 2012 Posted 7 February, 2012 Nothing wrong with the 'when in Rome' attitude. On a recent trip to the middle east I stoned a woman to death. Exactly. Its a traditional pastime, the woman has a good chance and the spectators get a good day out.
pap Posted 7 February, 2012 Posted 7 February, 2012 Never went to a bullfight, but did a bull run in a Saints shirt. This is me climbing out of the Plaza del Toros.
La BoIS Saint Posted 9 February, 2012 Posted 9 February, 2012 Am in Cambodia and have been in Laos. Cockfighting still going on in both.
hamster Posted 9 February, 2012 Posted 9 February, 2012 To my eternal shame, I am in all honesty, a qualified bullfighter. We call ourselves Toreodors actually. HTH
hamster Posted 9 February, 2012 Posted 9 February, 2012 And i have it on VHS tape if anyone don't believe me. I once fought a bull. It was between me and some lanky German bloke with a silly moustache. He what himself but I stood my ground. The paying crowd's applause was immense. I was truly moved and for one moment I was night I was the toast of the town.
