Fergie Posted 29 June, 2011 Posted 29 June, 2011 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/charlton_athletic/9526177.stm Only saw him play at Plymouth this season, thought he was decent and young...thought we might take a punt on him! Perhaps Oldham were asking too much. Think he'll do well next season, good luck to him. Liked him as a player. Another target snapped up by another club...oh well!! Wonder what kinda players we do have our eyes on...still, 1st July is just a couple days away now...surely something will develop in terms of signings...although if we started the season with our current squad i'd still be very confident we'd finish a decent mid-table.
Deano6 Posted 29 June, 2011 Posted 29 June, 2011 I would bet the tip of my cock we weren't interested in him.
LGTL Posted 29 June, 2011 Posted 29 June, 2011 He was hardly a target. Did ok, but not of the required quality. It's pleasing to know we obviously have better targets in mind.
slickmick Posted 29 June, 2011 Posted 29 June, 2011 Glad we didn't sign him. Ordinary at the best. Danns I would have loved to have signed.
saints-cris Posted 29 June, 2011 Posted 29 June, 2011 I doubt he was a target, think everyone knows we can do better now.
Block 5 Posted 29 June, 2011 Posted 29 June, 2011 He did ok at Plympton, but every other game I saw him in he was gash. If we'd signed him I would start self-harming again.
Scudamore Posted 29 June, 2011 Posted 29 June, 2011 I would bet the tip of my cock we weren't interested in him. I'll raise you a hilt...
Big_Bald_Si Posted 29 June, 2011 Posted 29 June, 2011 In fairness, when we signed him, there was no mention of the infamous "with a view to a permanent deal". I firmly believe he was a stop gap for whilst Schneiderlin was injured.
The9 Posted 29 June, 2011 Posted 29 June, 2011 I think it was fairly obvious we weren't signing him when he, along with N'Guessan, were about the only fit first team squad members not playing at the All-Star game.

I firmly believe he was a stop gap for whilst Schneiderlin was injured. Actually... "With ten games to go of the campaign, he admits that he'll need to be patient, but won't rule out a permanent switch to the south coast if all goes well. "I'd like to think so, but as far as I know it's just a loan at the moment, so hopefully I'll play games here and I can impress the gaffer. I'm delighted to be here, and I'll just take every game as it comes because it's a test for me, but a good opportunity too, so we'll see what comes of that." http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2324020,00.html But you're right about him being "cover". Shrewd use of a loan, though we did still rely on Gobern at Brighton, who did well, to my surprise.
Lighthouse Posted 29 June, 2011 Posted 29 June, 2011 Stephens Adkins Davis Endless... Don't forget Connolly and Barnard. FWIW I'm pretty sure we weren't in for Dale Stephens and 'underwhelmed' wouldn't have done my emotions justice if we were. Looked pretty average in a league below.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 29 June, 2011 Posted 29 June, 2011 I remember after his first game when I said on here that I was not impressed I got slated by many who said they thought he had been impressive. If I could be arsed I would dig out the thread. People see what they want to see, especially if they are Saints fans and yet those same people are tonight saying "glad we never signed him". He is a good Div 1 player and he has gone to a Div 1 side. Good Luck to him he may yet improve but he is not Championship standard yet Adkins had been "targeting" him for a long time according to the Saints website when he signed which just goes to show Adkins doesn't always get it right. I will watch his progress with Charlton with interest, he is young enough to come again.
SaintBobby Posted 29 June, 2011 Posted 29 June, 2011 Good luck to him. But tbh, I'd forgotten about him already. He did okay for us - but doubt he was on the "must have" or even "might like to have" list.
LostBoys Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 I know a lot of people have written him off but I thought he showed great promise. I do not think that we are very good judges of midfield players on this forum as Harding Chaplow and Schneiderlin normally get written off as well.
Professor Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 Dale was Not Wanted On Board in Southampton. Good luck to him but with due respect Saints are hopefully looking for a more established player in CMF.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 Turned down us, Everton and Bolton apparently!? Source: someone on our rumour thread
dronskisaint Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 I thought he showed promise but was a bit lightweight - we've had a look and decided no. Good strategy, end of story.
Chez Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 I didn't think he was good enough and said so at the time. Hopefully we will sign someone better.

NickG Posted 30 June, 2011 Posted 30 June, 2011 we seem to have some promising youngsters coming through again, we need to be signing mainly players clearly better than what we have to improve the first 11. we have a good first 11 and lots of cover. I would like to see just a few signings but ones who are first names on team sheet - he wouldn't have been. Not convinced we have heard any of our new signings mentioned yet!
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 Dale Arden made more of a impression on this fan ..... that's 'one for the teenagers' as they say.
southamptonfclegend Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 I don't think we will sign Dale Stephens either
doc oli Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 Sideways, sideways, sideways, all he did was sideways. Like a slim-Jim-Magilton
