Gorgiesaint Posted 26 June, 2011 Posted 26 June, 2011 I see River Plate only managed a 1-1 draw with Belgrano in the second leg of their relegation play-off, having lost 2-0 in the first leg. Glad I'm not in Buenos Aires tonight! Now it takes a period of prolonged incompetence to get a big club like that relegated in Argentina - the relegation spots are decided over 6 championships covering 3 years!
S-Clarke Posted 26 June, 2011 Posted 26 June, 2011 Watched the coverage online, they had to abandon the game in the final minute (although the result still stands) utter chaos in the stands, fans trying to burst on, water cannons being fired at them. All hell breaking loose. Big established clubs relegated this year - Monaco, Sampdoria, Deportivo and now River Plate.
skintsaint Posted 26 June, 2011 Posted 26 June, 2011 not surprised ....watched them last year and they were shiiiiiiiiite.
Gorgiesaint Posted 26 July, 2011 Author Posted 26 July, 2011 Well looks like they have some friends in high up places at River Plate. Been announced that there will be a re-shuffle of the leagues so that River Plate only spend one season (6 months) in the 2nd division. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/937489/argentinian-league-to-change-ahead-of-2012-13?cc=5739 Imagine if Man Utd get relegated and suddenly the Championship & the Prem League merged to keep them up. There'd be uproar.
