Thedelldays Posted 25 June, 2011 Share Posted 25 June, 2011 now, watching the glasto highlights this weekend...have seen many clips of very young children being dragged along through the mud in glastonbury... anyone else think that amounts to some sort of mild child abuse..? Turkish Posted 25 June, 2011 Share Posted 25 June, 2011 (edited) it is if they are forcing them to watch Coldplay tonight. And Jo Wiley is still a really sexy woman. Edited 25 June, 2011 by Turkish
Thedelldays Posted 25 June, 2011 Author Share Posted 25 June, 2011 agree about the whiley... also, all those big fuking flags on long poles are very annoying.... also, I wonder how Bono has offset his carbon foot-print for his performance...??? latter day saint Posted 25 June, 2011 Share Posted 25 June, 2011 was talking to a mate about this a work today.he reckons its because its all gone main-stream & middle class. i went a few times in the early 90's and there were kids in attendance then.most of them were with the crustys/hippy travellers though rather then in the main arena's. god knows what seeing your parents & their friends all monged out on acid & mushrooms did to them though. ( i also think Jo Wiley is sexy but can't work out why ?)
Thedelldays Posted 25 June, 2011 Author Share Posted 25 June, 2011 also how annoying would it be if some bint is sat on someone shoulders right infront of you........then infront of them there is one of those giant flag poles with a huge flag on it... however, Jessie J highlights are on and someone had a big sign saying "Jessie J, please **** me"....haha
Block 5 Posted 25 June, 2011 Share Posted 25 June, 2011 Kids at festies is wrong. That said, festies these days are pretty tame, middle class affairs. The last of the truly great anarchic festivals was Treworgey Tree Fayre in 1989. Anyone else lucky enough to have gone? http://www.ukrockfestivals.com/treworgey-tree-fayre-1989.html
swannymere Posted 25 June, 2011 Share Posted 25 June, 2011 But if you're standing so close to the stage that somebody with a flag or on someone's shoulders is ruining your experience you're doing it all wrong, if your that close you can't see everything that's happening and you'll have people ****ing on you. Best bet is to stand between half way back and the very back so you get the whole visual experience and easy access to the bar and toilets. The Cat Posted 25 June, 2011 Share Posted 25 June, 2011 We take our kids to festivals. I've been going to a few a summer for almost 20 years so have been to enough by myself and had no qualms about taking them. My 5 year old will be going to his 9th and 10th this summer. Not sure I'd take them to Glastonbury though, it just seems so much effort. Went in 1997 and didn't really enjoy it. It was hideously muddy and seemed more like a refugee camp than a festival. Mind you, I jumped the fence and did the whole thing on £20 without a sleeping bag so it wasn't all bad.

Baj Posted 27 June, 2011 Share Posted 27 June, 2011 Glastonbury is great for kids, and I'll be taking mine in 2 years. I wonder how many of those that say it isn't have actually been? There is a MASSIVE play area for kids, but, aside from that, Glastonbury is an ARTS festival, not a music festival. Get away from the main stages and there is plenty for the kids to see and do, I can't wait to take them because I know they'll love it.
Kingsland Red Posted 27 June, 2011 Share Posted 27 June, 2011 Just back from Glasto. We took the kids, 17 and 20, no probs but never saw them, they lived in the Dance Village, we stuck to the main stages !

The extra effort of taking them there compared to Camp Bestival, End of the Road, Green Man, Playground, Blissfields etc etc would not result in them having that much extra fun. Plus it's not in the school holidays which means unless you want to take your kids out of school you couldn't get there until friday night and would have to leave on Sunday afternoon. I'm sure the schools would have no issue with me taking them out of school the thursday and friday given the cultural experience they would get. As a parent, taking them would mean the weekend was centred around them and giving them the best experience, I know they will enjoy because a) I've been to glasto enough times and b) I know my kids pretty well

SuperMikey Posted 27 June, 2011 Share Posted 27 June, 2011 How much is a ticket for the VIP area or winnebago area You can pay an extra £200 (on top of the £200 for the ticket) to get a spot in the Tangerine Fields. You get your tent pitched for you, airbed, chairs, barbeque area, hot showers and flushing toilets. When I go again in 2013 I would love to go in a camper van. Had to get tickets in the re-sale this year after forgetting to buy them when they first went on sale, the thought of missing out altogether was too much to bear! Thankfully managed to get tickets in April. It's always a bit of a scrap to get the tickets, and some always lose out despite being well-prepared. I feel your pain, brother/sister. I keep getting smell-flashbacks of the long-drops though... orly? Ya. Rly.

ronnie radford's boots Posted 27 June, 2011 Share Posted 27 June, 2011 Tosh ! Just back from Glastonbury with m'missus and our eldest (14), who has had the experience of his life - Mosh pit at Cage the Elephant and crowd surfed to the front at Coldplay, to mention just two of his hilights. I loved every moment of it ( again ) and really feel that it's been a great education, as much as anything else, for him. Only downside for me, was having to endure most of the Tinnie Tempah set, as getting from stage to stage was really hard, given the foot of mud and we wanted to be together for the rest of that night. He's been in amongst positive people, made good friends, got loads of stories to tell and impress his mates and it was a great bonding time for me and him. We got to 10 back from the front row every time we were at the major stages and YES, I did put him up on my shoulders ( Pendulum, Coldplay, Elbow etc ). Why not ? When others did in front of me, I simply stepped to the side 1ft ...basic physics

Just as the previous act ended at the Pyramid stage. They have a set of barriers with a gap between them about 40 people back from the front, creating a separate section right at the front, not obvious on the TV. Just slide into that area as people leave after the previous act and the job's a good'un...you're a matter of a few feet from the front and have space to move

Sheaf Saint Posted 27 June, 2011 Share Posted 27 June, 2011 Such as? I've just booked tickets for me and my GF to go to Bestival on IOW in september. Normally I try and avoid the bigger festivals (too many people, long walk between carpark/campsite/arena, too much corporate sponsorship, overcharging for drinks/food etc..) but the lineup for Bestival this year is immense with lots of variety for everyone. Have a look for yourself.

IMHO Castlemorton was a free party and not a festival. I was DJing at free parties all over the country in those days; and knew most of the crews running rigs ie. DiY, Circus Warp, Spiral Tribe, Lazyhouse etc. If you were regularly going to free parties, chances are we've danced in the same muddy field together.
