OldNick Posted 25 June, 2011 Posted 25 June, 2011 i went there for the first time last night. It struck me that Southampton is lucky to have such a music venue. I listened to a local band The Lost Boys , (Southampton lads) and thought they were very good, how they are unsigned is a mystery to me. They were supporting Dodgy who were a class act.
Chorlton Posted 25 June, 2011 Posted 25 June, 2011 It is a great little venue and it looks like they have sorted themselves out and are getting bands other than tribute bands to play there. I saw Dodgy at The Railway in Winch a few months ago. Only went as I was intrigued to see a band who were half famous playing in the pub at the bottom of my road, but have to say that they were excellent live and funny blokes as well

Jonnyboy Posted 25 June, 2011 Posted 25 June, 2011 Southampton is a great place for gig venues. Would like to see more massive bands play at SMS though cos the guildhalls sound can be rubbish.
bridge too far Posted 25 June, 2011 Posted 25 June, 2011 Forgive me for going slightly off subject but a distant relative is in a band (Deadwax) performing at Hamptons next Saturday (2 July) http://www.deadwaxband.co.uk
positivepete Posted 25 June, 2011 Posted 25 June, 2011 Indeed, an outstanding venue. I have been a few times, and be able to observe legends like Steve Howe, and Nils Lofgren up close, and see their technique is a privilege.
pele Posted 25 June, 2011 Posted 25 June, 2011 Totaaly agree The Brook is a fantastic little venue having seen numerous bands there ranging from Stiff Little Fingers,Glen Hughes,UFO,Steve Harley,Magnum,Greenish Day, and other great cover bands like Whole lotta of led and the like!
Guan 2.0 Posted 25 June, 2011 Posted 25 June, 2011 Fantastic night last night at the brook last night. Summed up by Nigel Clark himself ".... and just think, you could be stood outside with it ****ing down with rain, listening to U2". And Lost boys were very good!

Guan 2.0 Posted 25 June, 2011 Posted 25 June, 2011 that lad who danced all night!!!! and was stood by the speakers! My ears still have not recovered yet Just the fact the stage techie turned out the light when they jokingly praised Portsmouth was quality..
scotty Posted 26 June, 2011 Posted 26 June, 2011 The Brook is a terrific venue. I see loads of stuff there, but the two I never miss are wilko johnson and limehouse lizzy. Top place. On the downside, as a supplier, the access to that stage for heavy gear is absolutely appalling.....
Dimond Geezer Posted 27 June, 2011 Posted 27 June, 2011 (edited) The Brook is fantastic. I've seen many bands there over the years, and it's only about a mile from home. I've seen some great performers there, Paul Young, Toyah, 10cc, The Alarm, Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters, and next month, some real Legends, The Wurzels . The only downside is that when it's packed you can't get to the bar easily. It would, imho, benefit form a bar next to the entrance (where it used to be before the extension was built), to complement the existing bars on busy nights. Edited 27 June, 2011 by Dimond Geezer
saint lard Posted 7 July, 2011 Posted 7 July, 2011 Looking forward to seeing Y&T in October. Really great band from my youth, still rocking on now, original lie up barring the bassist who unfortunately passed away not long ago. Dave Meniketti is a great axeman, very underated.
Petersfield Saint Posted 8 July, 2011 Posted 8 July, 2011 Seen Hayseed Dixie there a couple of times; great little venue!
