Saint Mikey Posted 24 June, 2011 Share Posted 24 June, 2011 What is the use of these now? I only ever see skag addicts use them, so what's the point? Let's face it, even if you lost your mobile, it's not as if anyone knows anyones number these days! Surely they can't generate that much profit either. Block 18 Posted 24 June, 2011 Share Posted 24 June, 2011 Think that they have to provide a certain number by some obscure law
OVER THE HILL Posted 24 June, 2011 Share Posted 24 June, 2011 (edited) They don't in fact BT lose lots of money on these, I think they are only used in an emergency now. Edited 24 June, 2011 by OVER THE HILL
Micky Posted 24 June, 2011 Share Posted 24 June, 2011 From what I can gather they serve a life saving purpose now. It appears it is a very safe way of holding a fireworks display, apparently:
Whitey Grandad Posted 24 June, 2011 Share Posted 24 June, 2011 My wife watches a lot of crime programmes. People use them because the call is untraceable. (to the person, that is, not the call box ).

I think WG means that people use phone boxes to report crime anonymously.

Chorlton Posted 24 June, 2011 Share Posted 24 June, 2011 Think they may be cutting down now. The red phone box which was outside my parents house in Weeke in Winch all the time I was growing up has sadly departed within the last month. It was always a meeting point/taxi drop off and those days have gone . But a poster above was right, I know my home number, my parents number and that is it.
