What is the use of these now? I only ever see skag addicts use them, so what's the point? Let's face it, even if you lost your mobile, it's not as if anyone knows anyones number these days! Surely they can't generate that much profit either.

From what I can gather they serve a life saving purpose now. It appears it is a very safe way of holding a fireworks display, apparently:

My wife watches a lot of crime programmes. People use them because the call is untraceable. (to the person, that is, not the call box :)).

 

This is partly my point though. Why have a facility for druggies etc, to carry out their business? Seems ridiculous to me...

I think WG means that people use phone boxes to report crime anonymously.

Think they may be cutting down now. The red phone box which was outside my parents house in Weeke in Winch all the time I was growing up has sadly departed within the last month. It was always a meeting point/taxi drop off and those days have gone . But a poster above was right, I know my home number, my parents number and that is it.
