trousers Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2380907,00.html "First up on Wednesday 13th July is a game against FC Biel-Bienne at their 15,000 capacity Gurzelen Stadion. Founded in 1896, FC Biel currently play in the Challenge League, which is the second tier of Swiss football. The game is scheduled to kick off at 6.30pm local time. A few days later on Saturday 16th July, Saints will travel to the far east of the country to take on FC St. Gallen in the impressive AFG Arena. St. Gallen are also a member of the Challenge League, having been relegated from the top division last season, and will provide an ideal step up in the level of opposition. FC St Gallen boast the record of being the oldest club in Switzerland, having been founded in 1879, and are expected to be a force in the Challenge League this season as they aim to return to the top flight at the first time of asking. Their home ground is a recently built 20,000 capacity ground which isn't too dissimilar to St Mary's. Kick off for this fixture is at 7pm local time."
hypochondriac Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Pleased they have released the info early enough to give fans a chance to make travel arrangements.
dune Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Crap. Another easy jolly and another poor start to a season. We'll never learn.
Saint Charlie Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Seeing as they are the first two friendlies I think, surely its better than playing Eastleigh and Winchester.
Cestrian Saint Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Cor. 2 friendlies with no kit or any new players because all the agents are boycotting us.
SimonRichards Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 I will be working in Salzburg over that week. Should be able to make the St. Gallen match as its only a 4 hour trip for me, or less via train!
opthomps Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Even if its 0-0 I can't wait til 13th july. these years of nothing in the summer are wretched.
trousers Posted 23 June, 2011 Author Posted 23 June, 2011 Crap. Another easy jolly and another poor start to a season. We'll never learn. I think it's a bit cheeky of Alpine to get you to post his reaction for him.... ;-)
Ewell Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Where will the team\squad be based and will other Saints fans be basing themselves in the same place?
View From The Top Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Where will the team\squad be based and will other Saints fans be basing themselves in the same place? I'm going to do a weekender for the St Gallen game with my nipper but not sure where we will stay yet.
Professor Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 If they are to be based in Interlaken again, why not say so?
stevegrant Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Can't see them being based in Interlaken again, simply because the two games are both miles away from there. I'm flying into Zurich on the morning of the Biel game, and then back from Munich on the Tuesday after.
alpine_saint Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Might go to the St. Gallen game; 5 hrs in the car for me. Deffo do-able

Dalek2003 Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Might go to the St. Gallen game; 5 hrs in the car for me. Deffo do-able Alpine, are you worried that we have failed to learn from the our past experiences. No new players and little time to gel if we do get any ? I am worried, big time.
alpine_saint Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Borussia Dortmund is the game before for them; decent tickets are 26 quid for that game.
alpine_saint Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Alpine, are you worried that we have failed to learn from the our past experiences. No new players and little time to gel if we do get any ? I am worried, big time. At the moment I am more chuffed that I might catch a game..
Dalek2003 Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 At the moment I am more chuffed that I might catch a game.. Well, you might also get the chance to meet some of the club members and find out whether we are or are not intending to buy in new players. Interesting here in Norwich how Paul Lambert last season and this summer is taking a very different strategy. Very decisive and bold and publicly talking about need to get players in early so as to prepare for the season.
Dan Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Flights all booked 2 nights in biel, 2 nights in st gallen and finish off with 2 nights in Munich. Lovely job.
Saint_clark Posted 23 June, 2011 Posted 23 June, 2011 Crap. Another easy jolly and another poor start to a season. We'll never learn. You mean like last summer, when we lost every game on our pre-season tour?
stkev7 Posted 24 June, 2011 Posted 24 June, 2011 I will be working in Salzburg over that week. Should be able to make the St. Gallen match as its only a 4 hour trip for me, or less via train! I'm half way between Salzburg and Innsbruck but Saturdays are my busiest day of the week. Unfortunately I have very little chance of making this.
SO16_Saint Posted 24 June, 2011 Posted 24 June, 2011 Flights all booked 2 nights in biel, 2 nights in st gallen and finish off with 2 nights in Munich. Lovely job. Blimey, you don't hang around - 7 hours from announcement to booking! Good work.
stevegrant Posted 24 June, 2011 Posted 24 June, 2011 Blimey, you don't hang around - 7 hours from announcement to booking! Good work. To be fair, the flights out had already been booked based on Biel's announcement a couple of weeks ago, so it was just a case of finding the best option for travelling back. Unfortunately, flights out of Switzerland are horrendously expensive, especially at weekends, so Munich was the next best option. I was looking at flying back from Dusseldorf as Fortuna Dusseldorf are at home on the Sunday, but the train connection was about £150 and would have involved getting up at about 4am to make the 1.30pm kickoff German third division fixtures are out today, so I'm hoping that Unterhaching (small suburb of Munich) are at home on the opening day of the season.
bowers-sfc Posted 24 June, 2011 Posted 24 June, 2011 St Gallens stadium looks like st marys, just with green seats.
stevegrant Posted 24 June, 2011 Posted 24 June, 2011 German third division fixtures are out today, so I'm hoping that Unterhaching (small suburb of Munich) are at home on the opening day of the season. Annoyingly, they appear to have shifted the fixtures back a week, so no games that weekend. Bayern Munich are at home on the Tuesday night, playing Hamburg in a friendly. We stupidly booked our flights for that night
Sour Mash Posted 24 June, 2011 Posted 24 June, 2011 All booked up, six night trip. St Gallen game should be good, hopefully a decent standard and they put out their first team (or close to it). Their ground looks good, makes a change to some of the places I've seen Saints play in Norway and Sweden over the years!

Crazy Diamond Posted 24 June, 2011 Posted 24 June, 2011 Warming up against Swiss second division sides. Hmm. Oh well, it can't go much worse than last year.

Sour Mash Posted 24 June, 2011 Posted 24 June, 2011 interestingly, didnt you moan about the price of going to watch saints....????? No. Are you the most boring poster on here? Well over 20,000 posts, yet you hardly go and watch Saints. You need to get a life pal.
Matthew Le God Posted 27 June, 2011 Posted 27 June, 2011 Before their trip abroad, Nigel Adkins will take his First Team Squad away for a week long training camp on English soil in order to fully assess the fitness of his side following their summer holidays. Surprised no-one has brought this up. Suggests that they will be training away from Staplewood when pre-season starts. Wonder where they are going in England for this training camp?

Wonder where they are going in England for this training camp? It wouldn't surprise me if the Skates have generously offered us the use of their state of the art facilities.
Dan Posted 28 June, 2011 Posted 28 June, 2011 cant think of anything worse than travelling across europe to watch a pointless training exercise..... fair play to you all A week of work, train trips round Europe, taking in new places, decent views, on the beer with your mates and watching saints in front of a hand full of people instead of the normal morons that follow us. There is nothing better.
Professor Posted 28 June, 2011 Posted 28 June, 2011 We sometimes see justified complaints about The Echo reprinting stories from other papers but the OS has outdone them by recycling its own past news about the Swiss trip. We still haven't been told if it is Interlaken again but I'm booked into my fav hotel in Unterseen, so if they are around I may see them up at Kleine Scheidegg. If not, my Swiss Pass on the trains will get me to the games anyway.
Matthew Le God Posted 28 June, 2011 Posted 28 June, 2011 We sometimes see justified complaints about The Echo reprinting stories from other papers but the OS has outdone them by recycling its own past news about the Swiss trip. The OS article now has extra information in it. Previously it didn't have the kick off time for the St. Gallen game (probably because it wasn't 100% confirmed at the time), the article now does have the time. They then republished the article and put it as the main story today so people would know and also make those aware of the tour if they hadn't seen it before. I really don't see how this can be compared to a local newspaper copying and pasting a large number of its stories from other sources.
Professor Posted 28 June, 2011 Posted 28 June, 2011 Matthew if you can't see the comparison, maybe look a little harder. All the OS had to do was acknowledge that this was an update. The press on the other hand, are hardly likley to say here is a story from yesterday's Daily Mail......
Matthew Le God Posted 28 June, 2011 Posted 28 June, 2011 Matthew if you can't see the comparison, maybe look a little harder. All the OS had to do was acknowledge that this was an update. The press on the other hand, are hardly likley to say here is a story from yesterday's Daily Mail...... Nope, can't see it. - The Echo are trying to sell papers by using other journalists work. - The Saints OS is trying to inform its fanbase with news of an upcoming tour that a number of its fans may be interested in making a trip out to Switzerland for. They did this by editing their own article with new info and boosting its position in the news section on their own website.
Matthew Le God Posted 1 July, 2011 Posted 1 July, 2011 Surprised no-one has brought this up. Suggests that they will be training away from Staplewood when pre-season starts. Wonder where they are going in England for this training camp? They are going to Leicestershire on a training camp before flying out to Switzerland.
