Ex Boss Wotte

Saint in Paradise

Strange man, seemed to be be a real snake when he destabilised and pushed out portvliet yet he was an absolute rock while we went into and emerged from administration.

Either way, good luck to him, he'll need it up there!

Who was the other Dutchman linked with the management job here the first time Wotte was linked with us, before Burley?

Portvliet was much better imo. Had us playing some amazing football (albeit without goals) with inexperienced youngsters. Wotte was made to look better because he was allowed to play/bring in experienced players when he was manager. Something Portvliet couldn't do.

At first I felt a bit sorry for him as the whole Poortvliet/Wotte/Lowe set up was quite clearly wrong from the very start.

However, reading Poortvliet's comments on how he felt stabbed in the back and betrayed/undermined meant that the little sympathy I had for him quickly vanished as he came out of that looking very poor indeed.

I don't think any one of us would have done anything different. If your company CEO told you that the manager of the company's main department was about to be fired and asked if you'd be interested in replacing him, as it was a step up from your current role, would you really say "no thanks"? I certainly wouldn't.

Both inexperienced muppets way too inferior for our level & the results echoed that but hey, Rupes knew best!! Forget the wise words intimated by Alan Ball! Sack Pearson who salvaged something despite the inherited mess and that clueless numpty Manji thought, appoint 2 clueless Dutch jokers to get us relegated and then put us into administration when it's clear we will be relegated and have -10 the following season in League One...nice work!

Thank f*ck we have someone running the club with a modicum of intelligence and logic now!

Wotte: "This is a key role in the modern game and it is my intention to help restore Scottish football to its former glory."

Scottish Football? Former glory? Am I missing something here....?

Think back at least 50 years, you could even go back to 1870 when they were only second best (admittedly out of two)! ;-)

I suspect it didn't quite happen that way, by Poortvliet reaction Wotte play a part in his downfall. I guess he knew Lowe held his ticket to English football management and he was deparate enough to do anything to get it.

I don't buy this 'acted with dignity when we went into admin' b#llocks , he was just looking after himself which is fair enough but he didn't do anything above and beyond.

Strange that we aren't really mentioned in his experience.

To be honest .... I wouldn't want to make too much of that experience if it was on my CV,

However to be fair to him, I thought he was very loyal behaved very correctly when the world was coming own around our ears.

Good luck Mark!

Scotland are a glutton for punishment first Burley now Wotte, who next Wigley or Branfoot?

In all seriousness I still think if Woote had been in charge from the start of 08/09 we might have stood a chance, got the best out of Jason Euell and Jan Paul Saejs was a good find.

Saw him in Tesco about a week after his sacking. Lovely guy he was. Had about 20 bottles of wine in his trolley so not sure what that says but never the less, had no bitter feelings towards Saints or it's fans. Even introduced the lady he was with as his wife to me. Chatted for a bit just like any other good.

Has my total respect and best wishes for this new position he has taken on.

The issue with me wasn't stepping in and replacing Poortvliet (as you say I don't think anyone would have said no - apart from Wigley who said no, then yes), but instead how Poortvliet described how Wotte acted in the early days and how he felt it undermined him.

When he was appointed we were all but doomed in fact he could only have succeeded if his name was Lazarus. Although he improved the team the performances from certain players remained poor and many chances were scorned - Blackpool away final minutes 1 each Surman breaks clear on the left and there are two unmarked Saints players in the box - and the ball ends up on the beach. I am not blaming Surman as he was one of the best players for us but overall we were just crap. I think that if Wotte had been manager we might have just escaped. I think he is a good coach but managing in the Championship needs experience from the manager and players.

Poor appointment for us and it'll be a poor one for the Jocks. No matter how people try and rewrite it, he was there from the start of the "total football" season as part of the Chuckle Brothers double act, and bears a huge lot of blame for that dire season.Best thing that NC/ML did was getting rid of him from the off.

Totally agree.

Not sure how people can say he wasn't that bad and almost saved us when he was up to his neck with a few others who were responsible of putting us in such a dreadful position.

There are two sides to every story. I'd like to hear Wotte's before I made a judgement. He stuck around and helped out when things got tough so fair play to him for that.

We Never should of been on his CV should of kept Pearson, still a legend to me for keeping us up that season ok we went down next season but I'm glad we wasn't league one and in admin with youngsters.

To be fair tho him and JP got us playing amazing football just lack goals
