miserableoldgit Posted 22 June, 2011 Share Posted 22 June, 2011 Someone who probably won`t be well known on here but was a big influence, along with the rest of his family, on many performers:- http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/jun/22/mike-waterson-obituary
revolution saint Posted 22 June, 2011 Share Posted 22 June, 2011 Can't say I've heard of him but anyone who has either influenced or worked with Billy Bragg, Eliza & Martin Carthy has to have something about them. RIP. That article does show how close knit (or incestuous) the folk scene can be.
Hamilton Saint Posted 23 June, 2011 Share Posted 23 June, 2011 Sad to hear that. I loved The Watersons close-harmony, a cappella style.
OVER THE HILL Posted 23 June, 2011 Share Posted 23 June, 2011 A true giant of the english folk scene and a really top bloke as well. Us old folkies grew up listening to people like the Watersons,Martin Carthy and June Tabor on our crackly LP'S. Hopefully Norma Waterson gets back to good health soon.
