Saints on sky, as always i'm delighted... & at least this year i'll have company as there are a fair few (dirty) leeds fans in Ireland... hopefully we'll put in a better display than we did against plymouth last year, when it was only me & the barman watching the game.

Bugger.. That is going to be after midnight for me !

Great. 1.20am kick off for me, at least it is a Saturday night.

You should both be pleased! :)

After midnight and on TV, is better than 11:20pm and not on TV isn't it?

Same for me. I am not unhappy. Even more so that it's the last game i will be in Korea for. Looking forward to getting back to the uk and actually getting to some games and the rest being at times I can always tune in.

Having said that being able to see beyond my nose at 1am on a saturday night is no easy task though.

There is no "first game of the season curse" either it's just a combination of tough away games and opponents being cagey and not wanting to loose. That and repeatedly awful pre-season preparation.

There may not be a 'first home game curse', but our record is truly shocking. Since 1990 our record for the first home game is P 20 W2 D 7 L 11, played in 2 grounds and under 13 different managers in 3 different divisions. It may not be a curse but I would think there are very few teams in the league who consistently start worse. Throw in a poor, if no worse, record on Sky and you can see why I am not hopeful. No curses or druidery - just harsh statistics.

Curse of Sky? Curse of the first game? Not if you look at it this way ...

Last season we were on Sky for the first game of the season and lost at home to Plymouth. Saints then went on to win promotion and Plymouth were relegated.

I'd take that every time.

We don't have a poor record on sky. People just seem to remember half a dosen crap performances over several years and act like these are the only results.

As for not winning the first game, yes it's been a while but there are reasons for that.

2010 - Plymouth. Poor pre season prep and key injuries to Lallana and Lambert.

2009 - Millwall. Tough team on their way to promotion. We barely had a team to put out.

2008 - Cardiff. Tough away game, we were playing the kids.

2007 - Palace. Truly awful pre-season planning from Burley. Barely had 2 defenders to rub together.

2006 - Derby. Tough away game to a team on their way to promotion. Only conceded the equaliser in inury time.

2005 - Wolves. Redknapp really didn't build a decent team that summer and Wolves were a decent side.

2004 - Villa. Tough away game and Sturrock wasn't up to the job and didn't have the team's support.

2003 - Leicester. Away to a newly promoted side on a high.

2002 - Boro. They were a tough nut to crack all season IIRC.

Can't remember back beyond then, but basically there's a reason for it. We might not beat Leeds, but then we might not have beaten them if we'd played them in March.

After beating Wednesday on Sky last season I think we're getting over the Sky 'jinx'.

More concerned that we haven't won on the opening day in what... 11 seasons? That's the jinx that will continue and condemn us to a defeat in front of a big TV audience excited about the start of proper football again.
